Chapter 191
Selena was sipping her morning coffee when she got a call from the mountaintop restaurant.
The manager's voice was as courteous as ever. "Mrs. Bennett, would you like us to reserve the restaurant for you again this year from 8 PM to midnight?"
That was when it hit her. Every year, she'd book the entire place for their anniversary, always hoping Everett would show up. But he never did, leaving her to drink alone in the flickering candlelight. Now that he was miles away in America, the chances were even slimmer. She opened her mouth to refuse, but the words caught in her throat. Instead, she said, "Yes, reserve it for me."
Why should she miss out on celebrating just because Everett wouldn't be there? She was done playing the part of the lonely, resentful wife. This year, she'd celebrate something else: her upcoming divorce, her return to singlehood, and the joy of kicking that unfaithful man to the curb!
Selena always had a flair for the dramatic. She added, "And make sure to serve the finest food and pop open the best wine!"
The manager was thrilled. "Mrs. Bennett, everything will be perfect for you and Mr. Bennett to have an unforgettable night."
...
That evening, Selena went all out. She slipped into her most stunning starry butterfly dress. The top part made her look like a butterfly in flight, accentuating her graceful neck and showing off her delicate collarbones and fair back. The bottom part faded from light to dark blue, fluttering like a river of stars as she moved.
She also adorned herself with a set of jewelry that Everett had splurged on at an auction. It had once belonged to a French princess. No woman could resist such jewels.
Once the divorce was final, those treasures would be out of reach, so she decided to enjoy them while she could. Having once owned such beauty was a happiness in itself.
By the time she reached the restaurant, night had fallen, but the sky was stunning, filled with twinkling stars. Selena stepped out of the car, her heels clicking on the red carpet laid out just for her.
Inside, the restaurant was a vision of

surrounded by clusters of flowers, and the scent of luxury was in the
air. Since the bill was on Everett, she felt no guilt in indulging.
She took her seat, not bothering to wait until midnight like she used to. Instead, she ordered her meal right away.
The manager was a bit taken aback, but when you were dealing with a VVIP, you did whatever it took. He would've obliged even if she had asked him to do a traditional dance!
Dish after exquisite dish was served,
and Selena savored each bite. Ironically in past years, she'd waited so long that the food went cold, and she would lose her appetite. This
was the first time she truly tasted
how amazing it was.

'It does feel a bit extravagant eating alone,' she mused. Next time, she'd bring Joy along to share the experience.
The wine was already decanted, and
she poured herself a small glass, savoring the familiar taste. She'd always hoped to share it with Everett, but it was his loss. It was delicious, and she found herself pouring another glass and then another.
Suddenly, a waiter wheeled over a towering five-tier cake.
Selena stared in surprise, tilting her head. "What's this?"
The waiter's face was hidden behind the cake, but his voice was smooth and pleasant, "To celebrate Mr and Mrs. Bennett's third wedding anniversary, the restaurant prepared this special cake." That's when Selena noticed the little figures on top, which were remarkably lifelike. The male figure was unmistakably handsome like Everett, and the female was a charming version of herself.
