Love’ss 174
On the other end of the phone, Caleb’s breath became ineven upon hearing Madelyn’s words.
Just as he was about to say something to try to persuade Madelyn to see him, Madelyn’s hand was suddenly empty. She turned to see Andrew snatch the phone and end the call abruptly.
Andrew tossed the phone onto the bed and loomed over her.
“Are you awake?”
Madelyn remained silent. She noticed Andrew’s grim complexion and tone and puzzled over his reason for being angry again.
Her lips twitched involuntarily. She couldn’t think of anything she had done to upset him. All she had done was sleep.
She wondered if it could be because she did nothing that upset him.
But this was the office. It couldn’t be like how it was at Serenity Villa.
Madelyn reached out and grabbed his hand.
She asked urgently, “What are you angry about now?”
Andrew raised an eyebrow.
“I’m not angry!”
Madelyn was skeptical as his tone conveyed otherwise.
She got up from the bed and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“But I can see that you’re angry. Come on. Who has upset you?”
“You!”
“Me? But I haven’t done anything.”
Upon hearing Andrew accuse her of upsetting him, Madelyn was genuinely bewildered. She figured that she had to be careful even when sleeping.
Andrew grabbed her slender waist. Then, he turned around and lay back on the bed. He allowed her to lay on top of him.
Madelyn could feel the rise and fall of his chest.
He sighed.
“You really are a fool. How silly.”
“What’s wrong?”
Madelyn couldn’t quite grasp Andrew’s words. She couldn’t understand why he was angry because of her silliness.
But if she was foolish, it wasn’t entirely her fault. She was never smart to begin with.
Andrew asked sternly, “What made you think Caleb and Amelia were your parents in the first place?”
“Isn’t that what you all claimed?” Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Madelyn looked up. She was confused as she met Andrew’s serious gaze.
Andrew’s stance stiffened at her words.
Sensing his unease, Madelyn asked, “What’s wrong?”
A cloud of gloom descended over the entire Miller family when Caleb and Amelia arrived at their door years ago. However, they seemed to have known all along that Caleb and Amelia were her parents.
So when Caleb and Amelia came for Madelyn, they didn’t oppose it and respected Madelyn’s wishes despite being unhappy about it.
No one had once doubted the relationship between the Garcia family and Madelyn.
However, upon hearing Andrew’s words, Madelyn asked, “Is there a problem?”
Madelyn was confused by Andrew’s silence.
He stated, “Caleb is not your biological father.”
“What? Am I a product of Amelia’s affair?”
Andrew remained silent at Madelyn’s question.
Madelyn grew livid and clutched her forehead in pain.
Her face was filled with resentment as she stared at Andrew.
“What are you doing? Are you joking with me?”
Andrew said, “Amelia is not your biological mother either.”
Madelyn replied, “Oh.”
Her mind raced.
Madelyn was momentarily stunned. Then, her pupils narrowed as she looked at Andrew in disbelief.
“What do you mean?”
She couldn’t wrap her head around Andrew’s statement that Caleb and Amelia weren’t her parents.
She wondered if it meant that she wasn’t Caleb’s and Amelia’s biological daughter even before they signed the severance letter.
Andrew was unsure of what had gone wrong. Years ago, he had witnessed Caleb and Amelia abandon a child at the hospital entrance from the third–floor hospital ward.
Snowflakes drifted onto the child in the cold wind, prompting him to rush downstairs and pick up the baby. In just a few short minutes, she had become someone else’s abandoned child.
