Chapter 709
The Yoder Family.
Archie hung up the phone and walked back into the living room.
Gavin Yoder looked up at him, clearly annoyed. "I was in the middle of talking to you. Where'd you go?"
"Had to take a call," Archie replied, voice cool.
"What kind of call is so important you can ignore me? Was it those useless friends of yours again? Archie, seriously, can't you pick up some better habits? Hanging out with those losers all day just gets on my nerves."noveldrama
Gavin leaned forward, frustration in his eyes. "You're not getting any younger, you know. Like your aunt keeps telling you, it's time you settled down."
"The girl Willow picked out for you is a good match. When are you going to meet her and get this sorted?"
Archie frowned at him. "I'm not interested."
"Not interested?" Gavin scoffed. "This isn't about what you want. It's a business arrangement. You'll get married because I say so. Honestly, you should be grateful she's even considering you. Who do you think you are? You think you could do better?"
He let out a sharp laugh. "I don't care if you like it or not. You're marrying her, end of story!"
Archie rolled his eyes. "What if I just refuse? You gonna drag me to the altar?"
"Why the hell not? You got someone else?" Gavin narrowed his eyes. "Even if you do, it doesn't matter. Marriage is business. What you do on your own time, I don't care. Love's overrated. You should be focused on your career!"
Archie glanced over at Chester Yoder and his mom sitting nearby.
Chester was glued to his phone, thumbs flying over the screen. Without looking up, he chimed in, "Bro, not to be harsh, but does that girl you like even like you back? You're still hung up on Callie right? But are you actually together?"
"Dad's just looking out for you. The Yalton family's loaded, and they've only got one daughter. If you marry her, you're set. Their whole estate could be yours."
"I heard she's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. She'd never be able to run the company. You'd pretty much own the place."
"Seriously, what's there to complain about? Dad's doing you a favor!"
Archie couldn't help but laugh at his little brother Chester was only two years younger, and honestly, he was the real stacker of the family. But for some reason, Gavin always acfed like Chester was the golden child, all because of Chester's mother's influence.
"If it's such a great deal, why don't you marry her?" Archie shot back. "Then all that wealth would be yours."
Chester shook his head instantly. "No way. I heard she's dumber than a box of rocks, and ugly as homemade sin. I'd puke!"
Archie shrugged. "If you won't do it, why should I?"
Chester finally looked up, smirking. "Mom and Dad spoil me. I don't have to settle for someone like that. But you? You should be thinking about your future. Dad already said the company's mine, so you'll be marrying into someone else's family."
"My mom found you a catch, rich as hell. What's your problem? You should thank
my mom for finding you a millionaire," Chester said matter-of-factly.
Archie's face darkened. He turned to Gavin. "I'm not your pawn. Who I marry is my business, not yours. Stay out of it!"
What do you think?
