Alpha Hayley's Destined Mate

Chapter 788

Chapter 788 You Can Consider Her

Hayley's POV:

Truman didn't respond right away. He just stared at me blankly.

I fiddled with my fingers, feeling a little awkward.

Finished

I wasn't sure why I suddenly cared about his affairs so much. But I'd already said it, so there was no way to take it back. I just waited for him to say something.

Honestly, it made sense. People who seemed suspicious deserved to be looked into.

Besides being the Alpha of the Shadow Pack, I was also one of SI's top leaders. It was my job to dig up info when needed.

It wasn't because he was Truman that I was watching him more closely.

After staying quiet for a bit, Truman finally said, "No."

Then, he looked at me with deep affection and added gently, "The ones who attacked you were from the Skyhawk Syndicate. If I didn't completely take them down, someone else might target you next."

I hadn't expected him to go that far just for me.

My heart skipped a beat.

He looked so serious that I didn't even know how to respond.

It took me a while, but I managed to steady myself. I took a deep breath, kept my cool, and said coldly, "You didn't have to go that far. I already have someone I'd die for. He's my destined mate. The Moon Goddess picked him for me. Even if you died at Syndicate's base yesterday, I wouldn't have felt a thing."

Then, I turned and left.

Truman quickly caught up and grabbed my wrist.

A sharp jolt hit me, and my heart was pounding. I immediately pulled back. "Don't touch me!"

His face shifted slightly. He was clearly hurt. He put his hands up like he was backing off. "I mean no harm. I just wanted to say you can drop the wager with Preston. You don't need to keep going with it."

I was still a little out of breath. "Is that all you wanted to say?"

"With the Skyhawk Syndicate gone, the Hanovers have lost their backup. I know the Cyclone Pack's Alpha. One word from me and the Hanovers will be doomed. Preston won't dare mess with you again."

I got what he meant. That made me feel a little more at ease.

After a second, I looked at him and replied calmly, "You underestimate me. Do you think I can't win?"

"I'm just worried-"

"Don't

say

that."

I didn't let him finish. "Go worry about someone else. I don't need it.

"Also, I don't jump into anything unless I'm sure I'll come out on top. Just wait and sec. Once I get my hands on a top-grade gem, I'll turn it into jewelry for you as thanks."

"I don't need it."noveldrama

"You're taking it," I said firmly. "That's all I've got to give. Nothing more."

I would never let myself have feelings for anyone but Benjamin.

Even if Hera's feelings weren't the same, she'd still never turn her back on her destined mate.

I left those words hanging and headed out to look for Humbert.

He'd already chosen two raw stones. We got them registered and left the venue for lunch..

We hadn't gone far when Becky came running after us. "Ms. Carson, wait up!"

I paused and turned around. She had already caught up. "I said I'd thank you today. Let's grab lunch together."

Her voice was soft, and when she glanced over at Humbert, her smile got a little nervous. She clutched her purse a bit tighter and looked away.

I could tell she liked him, so I wasn't going to block her shot.

"Sure," I said with a nod. "Let's find a quiet place nearby."

Once we got to the restaurant, Becky walked ahead while Humbert and I followed.

Seizing the moment, I elbowed him lightly and whispered, "She's sweet. If you haven't met your destined mate yet, maybe give her a chance."

He smiled shyly.

Just then, my phone rang.

I had marked the caller ID as special. It was Dominic.
