Chapter 1567
He was so shocked that he broke out in a cold sweat upon a closer look at the wristwatch. At first, he had wanted to check the degree of damage on the cover glass and see if he had damaged the internal parts or the concave surface. When his gaze landed on the date by the side, Wyatt forgot to react for a long time.
A century seemed to have passed before he muttered, "Is it past twelve o'clock?"
Or had his wristwatch been damaged?
Didn't he agree to have a meal with Waverly and her father the next day?
How did it end up being on that day?
Wyatt's vision blurred as he reassured himself that he must be giddy-headed from capturing the criminal, and his thoughts had yet to recover. He must have seen it wrongly. It must be the case! He had set a reminder for that day. He did not remember having received any reminders!
In a trance, a voice went pouring from above his head that sounded ice-cold to his ears. "It's not even eleven o'clock! Wyatt, aren't you looking at the watch? Are you confused?"
Looking at his watch and then checking hers, Raynee was puzzled. Wasn't it all shown on his watch? Why would he ask such a question?
Thunder rumbled in his head as Wyatt staggered. As a thought flashed through his mind, Seth looked at the time and remembered that he had changed a new watch that day. There was no date on it, so he withdrew his phone and stared at the screen, his face turning pale.
After the woman was taken away for a simple verification, the person in charge came over.
"Mr. Johnson, since she has been caught, she's most probably the culprit! Why don't you wait for a moment and take a seat? I can help you deal with the formalities so that you won't have to come over again..."
"All right!"
Raynee readily agreed, pleased at the thought of how lucky she was. On the other hand, Wyatt's brain went blank. All he saw were figures shaking beside him with their mouths seemingly moving, but he could not make out a single word they said.
Without waiting for them to finish their words, Wyatt pushed them aside. He threw out a few words and ran toward the door. "Seth, help me deal with the rest!"
"Wyatt, where are you going?"
"Alas, your hand is bleeding! You're injured! Wyatt..."
Stomping her feet, Raynee shouted and chased after Wyatt far away, but she was left with no choice but to watch as Wyatt disappeared from the exit in a blink of an eye!
Walking out of the police station, Waverly covered her neck as if she had just had a nightmare.
"Miss Castle, please take your mobile phone! Your friend is here to pick you up..." As she accepted her phone, Waverly was taken aback upon raising her gaze. "Why is it you?" Quill? How did he know that she was at the police station?
Quill took the bag from her hand and curled the corner of his lips into a faint smile. "Let's go!"noveldrama
"Thank you!"
After nodding to the policewoman, Quill removed his blazer and draped it over Waverly's shoulders.
Seeing that there were outsiders by her side, Waverly nodded knowingly and thanked the policewoman. "Thank you."
"You're welcome! In the future, you should pay more attention to safety when you're out on the streets! A girl should avoid walking in dark alleys, especially beautiful girls like you. You may not be so lucky next time!"
"I'll keep it in mind!"
Waverly waved her hand and followed Quill out the door.
Leaving the police station, Quill explained, "I don't know how I accidentally called your number, but I hung up. It was the police who called me back, so I knew that something had happened to you!"
It was why he came over!
"Thank you."
"The car is a little far away..."
"All right."
She had not expected herself to be so unlucky that day. After sending her father away, she wandered around the streets and encountered a robbery! The key was that she didn't have much of an impression of the whole process. Her memory of how she had handled the situation was a mess. When she came to her senses, she had entered the police station. As she regained her consciousness and remembered the thrilling scenes in her mind, Waverly felt the lingering fear as her legs went soft.
Both of them had initially been silent on the way. It wasn't until Waverly's body swayed that Quill reached out to hold her. "Are you scared? Do you want to sit for a while?"
As he raised his head, he indicated to the bench not far away.
"Sure!"
Right then, she was so frightened, to the point where her whole body trembled. Waverly was so exhausted that she immediately nodded at the suggestion.
Then the two moved a few steps to the side and sat on the bench on one side. The chair was wide, and as the two of them sat on each side, there was quite a distance between them. Similarly, they sat without making a sound or moving.
It was until the phone in Waverly's hand vibrated and its screen brightened up that the clear word "Wyatt" appeared on it...
Quill's eyes inadvertently fell on the phone. Waverly seemed to not see, feel, or hear it. She did not move for a long time, neither did she answer nor hang up the call. Her eyes were empty and dull.
Soon, the phone screen went dark, and after a brief while, it brightened once
more.
After repeating the cycle repeated for two or three times, Quill tilted his body over and asked, "Won't you answer the call?"
Waverly bitterly tugged at the corner of her lips. She did not say anything. Her gaze remained dull as she stared at a certain spot on the ground in front of her. No one knew what she was thinking.
It was as if a century had passed before Quill spoke again.
"Are we considered to be in the same boat? The police said that you were in a
bad mood and wanted a friend to pick you up, and I happened to have accidentally dialed your number! It should not have been me who appeared today..."
Initially, he received the news and went to pick up Raynee in high spirits, but he did not expect to be delayed on the road when his car brokedown. Upon his arrival at the airport, he realized that he had missed the time. Initially, he did not hold any hope. When he was ready to turn around, he accidentally saw Raynee's figure and knew that something had happened to her. Before he had gotten through to her phone, he saw Wyatt. Since Wyatt was around, why would he be needed? In the end, he left the place in low spirits. He did not expect himself to accidentally make a call to Waverly while being on the road in a bad mood before heading to the police station.
If she needed friends to pick her up, she was the victim, not a prisoner. The police would definitely respect her opinion or leave her to make the call herself!
Obviously, she had not been looking for Wyatt!
Such a reaction was out of the ordinary. As their eyes met, Quill felt that they were most probably sharing the same mood, at least that night.
"Doesn't it feel uncomfortable being a backup?"
Wyatt was with another woman. Did she know? Should he mention it?
When the words arrived at the tip of his tongue, Quill said nothing. Perhaps they were indeed in the same boat. Right then, he did not want her to be as sad and injured as he was.
"Is the injury on the neck serious? Would you like to visit the hospital?" Waverly shook her head with a faint smile.
"Just now, the medical staff attended to my injury. It's nothing more than a slight scratch! Quill, is this the reason why you once wanted to win me over? Do you love her very much?"
Them being in the same boat and him feeling pity for her shouldn't be the reason why he had wanted to win her over! It was no wonder why there was such a sudden drastic change in his attitude during a short period!
Her line of sight was lost at the bottom of her dark pupils. Quill paused hearing the one sentence. "Do I love Raynee? I do, very much! But why can't I say anything when looking at her eyes?" He muttered in his heart.
Quill's lips parted several times, but he found that he couldn't make a sound. In
the end, he could only manage a bitter smile. "Loving a person will become a habit!"
That was right!
He had loved Raynee for so many years. He must have gotten used to it!
It was why whenever it came to her, he felt that he should meddle in her affairs as
long as he knew about it, regardless of whether she asked for his help!
"It may only take a month to cultivate a habit, but it's difficult to change it. I may
not be able to change it for the rest of my life!" Quill muttered without realizing it as his entire body emanated sorrow and loneliness.
Waverly tilted her head to look at him with a scoff. "That's because you don't want to change it! Even if you're addicted to drugs, you can successfully curb the
addiction!" "Why didn't you answer the phone then?"
Wasn't she afraid?
With how decisive she sounded, she couldn't bear it either when it came to her. Wasn't it? Did she fall in love with Wyatt for real? Only those who were madly in love would have such a dilemma!
"I'm not escaping reality! I just... haven't thought about it yet!"
She hadn't thought about how to deal or face the situation!
Too many events had happened that night. Even the anger in her heart that could
not be dispelled was gone.
"If you hesitate, you must have feelings! Haha..."
Quill smiled helplessly. He didn't know if he was sympathizing with her or himself. "Sentimentality is always troubled by heartlessness. The most fearful thing in the world is the fact that love exists! Without emotions, things will be much simpler!"
A thought flashed through Quill's mind as he couldn't help but wonder. Shouldn't she ask him for comfort at a time like that?
Why would she rather stay alone? She didn't even think of asking him for help,
even after she had dealt with everything.
Could it be...
Perhaps she had been deeply defeated by a broken promise just like him!
Only then would one be so helpless and sorrowful! To say that it was heartless harm seemed to be a little too much. After all, there were always such accidents and emergencies in life, but if one claimed it not to be harm, it was
hurtful, especially when one was full of expectation and desire...
"It's late. Let me send you back!"
"My car is still in the hotel."
When she got up, her heart seemed to be deeply pricked, furrowing Waverly's
brows into another frown. It was not a good day that day! An eventful night!
She had wanted to give her father an
extra ride, so she rode in his car. He drove her out to the main road on his way home, and she had to grab a cab home. Feeling uncomfortable, she exited the car in a daze and mindlessly entered an alley to encounter a stupid thief who came
out to rob her before it was dark!
She had wanted to return to the hotel to fetch her car!
What do you think?
