Chapter 35
Sydney was stunned and bent her head in shame, her hands trembling beneath her.
Paxton’s anger was only just beginning as he had lots of them on peak ready to unleash them on her.
“You golddigger!” He flared, advancing towards her. At that moment her heart flew and she staggered back in fright.
But he didn’t stop, not for one minute.
“Swear your intentions towards my brother are clean, swear.” Each word that came out of his mouth was accompanied by a demeaning step.
“Why are you doin-”
“I don’t want to hear anything from you” he ripposted, cutting her off roughly.
Sydney nodded abruptly and pushed her lips into her mouth, murmuring to herself; ‘did he have a quarrel with Jaxton?’
Paxton seemed to have heard her murmur but he didn’t actually hear what she said. He took the last step, seezing her breath with just a glare from him.
He stared at her intimidately and snarled, “stay away from my brother.” He spoke fastly, the weight of his tone was harsh.
It was as if it carried all the anger in the world laying them on her.
Sydney could only whimper, keeping her eyes down because of their close proximity, so she tried not to meet his eyes.
As if that was not enough torture he was already imposing on her, he gripped her hand forcefully, twisting it until she yelped in pains.
“Arghh… ” she winced, her eyes building into fury as she narrowed her gaze to her hand.
Her eyes glistered with tears, but he didn’t care. “If the thought of ruining my brother ever crosses your mind you would remember this pain–”
“You’re hurting me.. ” she whimpered.
“I will not go soft on you next time so squirm!” He gnarled, yanking her hand off.
She held her hand to herself the minute he released it, her small fingers traced the thick marks his fingers had left behind and she spun her head to glare at him.
Streaks of tears dripped down her cheeks bit by bit and she threw her hands as fast as she could to wipe them off. She wouldn’t want Paxton to see how broken his words had made her.
Paxton fixed her a tight glare and eventually tottered out of the hallway. Sydney gave in to tears, she couldn’t imagine why Paxton was so harsh to her, the little hope she once had in her heart just crashed. This time she was so convinced that Paxton really hated her.
Earlier on when he was yelling at her she wanted to shout back at him but she couldn’t.
As much as the urge to do it was there she couldn’t bring herself to ruin her career. Even if she was to risk her chances and rant who would she fall back to?
She have no friends nor partner to cry to, meeting Jaxton was the beginning of her nightmare.
“Hahh… ” she sigh tirelessly and turned to leave but her hand met the wall and she winced in severe pain as it was the area Paxton had twisted
“Ouch! Freaking hurts..” she mumbled to herself and went to deliver the files.
Sydney went on with her daily routine and the day was suddenly too busy, washing off her thoughts of Paxton until miss Dana ringed her office.
With skimpy breaths she scurried out of her seat to meet her, miss Dana was staring at her system with her goggles resting at the tip of her nose.
She didn’t notice Sydney was already there until she coughed. “Miss Dana, you wanted to see me.” Sydney inquired, looking over her desk.
A friendly smile crossed her lips as she raised her head to look at Sydney.
“Yes, please get ready a vip guest is coming from overseas tomorrow morning and you are to brief him on the company’s marketing skills.” She replied.
“Why me?” The words left her in a rush before she could realize it.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
Miss Dana’s brows creased, “Is there something wrong?” She asked and Sydney immediately let out a chuckle.
“No no! Uhm..” she threw her hand to her nape and rubbed it gently. “I um.. will Paxton be there?”
“God help you Sydney!” She gasped, looking through the glass separating her from Paxton.
Sydney’s heart made a loud bang when her eyes fell on Paxton who was sitting relaxed on his office.
“You should be careful next time, what if he was passing by and overheard you call his name without any tone of formality attached to it?” Miss Dana scolded.
She gulped down nothing and went back to her office. The rest of the day was spent on Sydney avoiding Paxton or anything that would make them cross lanes.
And Paxton was irritating the entire day that she prayed earnestly for the close of work to happen quick.
Her eyes peeked at the exquisite wall clock and she tapped her laps continuously trying to ease the building tension in her mind. Just then her phone beeped, it was a text message from Jaxton.
A sour feeling ran through her spine as she read the contents. She had better avoid Jaxton or face the wrath of Paxton. The twins were already giving her a huge headache as it is.
Sydney felt it better to avoid Jaxton as that would be the best option to choose, besides Paxton didn’t look like he was joking when he said those words to her. Paxton might really fire her if she fails to, she knew better than anyone.
She jerked up, shoved her bag over her shoulders and stretched, yawning lazily.
“Finally, I’m leaving this hell hole.” She said to herself, taking long strides out of the office.
She took the stairs as the elevator was the last thing in her mind and she wouldn’t want to run into Jaxton on the way.
Her eyes narrowed to her purse and she took in three breaths before flagging down a cab.
Jaxton twirled around on his chair, on his right hand was his phone and the other was a pen which he scratched his hair with as he waited patiently for Sydney to pick up.
He called him a good number of times but she kept forwarding him to voicemail so he had no choice but to record a message.
“Did Paxton grow out of her?” He said to himself, his eyes running around as he tried to understand the whole situation.
“Argh… .” He growled softly, stomping his feet on the floor.
What if his subconscious is right and Paxton really did say something bad to her? At least that explains why she wouldn’t take his calls.
A deep frown crawled into his face and he gritted his teeths, anger taking the best of him. He stormed out of his office heading to Paxton’s.
“How dare he take matters into his own hands?” He gnarled.
Paxton has no control over his life and tonight he would give him a piece of his kind.
