Chapter 36
Chapter 36
“Who’s that kid next to Gigi? He’s singing that song pretty darn well.”
Bernard couldn’t help but feel a twinge of happiness, even though he also felt slightly disappointed deep down.
He wondered how different things would have been if Gisele hadn’t been Dorian’s wife. Then, maybe he would have had the courage to take the first step and confess to her..
Dorian strode deliberately forward with a sullen look.
“Hey, Doge! Where are you going?” Bernard called out nervously as Dorian strode off.
As he watched Dorian’s retreating figure, a twinge of concern for her tugged at his heart. However, Dorian continued forward. By now, a crowd had formed a circle around Gisele.
As the song reached its climax, the lyrics echoed through the space. “Honest, let’s make this night last forever… Forever and ever.
The melody of “First Date” gradually faded into silence.
Johnson kneeled before Gisele with a large bouquet. His expression was brimming with emotion. “Gigi, will you be my girlfriend? Or let me be your boyfriend?”
Gisele was taken aback. She wasn’t sure if Johnson had meticulously planned this moment or if it was a spontaneous decision.
Nevertheless, his gesture left her thoroughly surprised.
“Say yes! Say yes!”
“Lovely lady, your boyfriend has put a lot of thought into this. He’s been planning this afternoon for you. He’s quite romantic.”
“Yeah, give him a chance! Say yes!”
The crowd of onlookers erupted in cheers. They boldly referred to Johnson as her boyfriend rather than a potential suitor.
Standing amidst the lively crowd, Gisele watched the spectacle unfold around her. She felt like an outsider amidst the festivities.
As she remained silent for what seemed like an eternity, beads of sweat began to form on Johnson’s forehead.
Some of the onlookers couldn’t help but sympathize with him. They could sense her
hesitance.
“A young man smitten with a married woman. Aren’t you ashamed?” Dorian approached with an impassive expression.
At his words, the crowd quickly parted. Their eyes widened as they turned to face him.
Johnson frowned and looked at Dorian disapprovingly. “Isn’t this gentleman being a bit nosy? This is between me and Gigi.”
“Me? Nosy?” Dorian scoffed.
His piercing gaze was fixed on Gisele. “Gisele, can’t you a man by your side? Do
live w you cling to them every moment just to feel whole?”
His words cut deep.
Bernard nudged him as he silently urged Dorian to soften his tone.
Gisele defiantly met Dorian’s icy stare. Edging closer to Johnson, she gripped his hand with her cold fingers.
She chuckled softly before speaking. “And what about you? Can’t survive without a woman, can you? You married me three years ago, only to cheat on me for the next three.
“My actions pale in comparison to yours, don’t they?”
A sudden clap of thunder echoed overhead, leaving the spectators momentarily stunned.
“And besides, we’re in the process of getting a divorce. So, what’s wrong with me seeking a new life?” Gisele countered.
She had married him, but that didn’t mean she had surrendered her autonomy. Did divorcing him imply she was forbidden from pursuing her own happiness?
Dorian’s expression soured as he snarled, “Who do you think you are? You’re nothing compared to Sierra. You begged to marry me three years ago, and now you willingly engage in adultery.”
He stepped forward and roughly grabbed Gisele’s chin with his warm, dry palm..
He forced her to look at him. “You’ve tarnished my family’s reputation. Even ten Meyers wouldn’t suffice to make amends!”
With a vicious flick, Dorian released Gisele’s chin, making her stumble.
Johnson swiftly steadied her and asked, with concern etched in his face, “Are you alright, Gigi?” Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Bernard grumbled disapprovingly, “Can’t you be civil, Doge?
“But isn’t this kid too young?”
Bernard noticed Johnson’s youth and speculated that Gisele might not be interested in
someone so young.
Glancing sideways at Dorian’s deeply displeased expression, Bernard realized it was the first time he had seen Dorian look so grim in almost three years.
