Chapter 35
Thinking about May was something therapeutic for Miles. How his life has been filled with brightness ever since she stepped into it, the happiness she had brought to him over the few months that they’d known each other. The thought of everything made Miles excited and unable to hide his smile and his gratefulness.
After the incident that happened five years ago, Miles had lived the recent years of his life wallowing in pain, thinking he would never find someone like her again. His heart was never going to open to another woman again, at least that was what he thought, not until May came into his life and changed everything.
It was love at first sight for him, but how could he have summoned the courage to confess his feelings to his secretary who was obviously terrified of his slightest presence? Getting rejected wasn’t his thing, especially from someone he cherished.
Miles’s heart missed a beat as the incident of that night replayed in his head. For weeks, he had been reminiscing on that night. How sweet she was, how warm her body was in his arms, her moans, her sweet scent, he couldn’t get enough of those. It was the best sex of his life and now that he recalled it, he couldn’t help but look forward to doing that with her again.
For weeks, he had kept that night a secret, pretending not to remember what happened just not to inconvenience her, but finding out later that she was carrying her child was the happiest thing he ever heard.
‘Quit with the pretense, Mr. Miles. We both know that you are aware of what happened between you and my friend that night. No way you could’ve forgotten about it’ When May’s friend, Lily confronted him, he was left with no choice but to give up trying to hide it as he had already been caught.
‘My friend is pregnant, and you have to take responsibility for it’ That news was the best news he ever got, and every second of that day was living rent-free in his head. How he kept tossing on the bed at night, having imaginations of being a father all planned out in his head. It was the sweetest day of his life. And from that day, he had made up his mind to care for her and their unborn child while pretending not to know about it.
‘Let’s get married for three months. I will pay you ten million dollars’ That was all because of the love he has for her. He was willing to go the extra mile just to have her, but what he didn’t think about was what if after three months, he still failed to have her? How was he going to go about it?Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
“We will cross that bridge when we get to it, Miles. It’s not something to be worried about,” He whispered and smiled as he reclined on the chair and slowly rubbed his forehead with his fingers.
A knock came on his door, disrupting his thoughts. He raised his gaze to the door.
“It’s me, James,” Came a masculine voice.
“Come in,” The door opened, and a young man in his forties cladded in a black suit, walked inside.
“Sir, the interview is in five minutes, and the people are here already,” James dropped a file on the desk.
“Hmm…” Miles paused, then checked his wristwatch and took his attention back to James.
“Get them ready and send them to my office,”
“Yes, Sir. I’ll do just that, Sir,” And with that, James walked out of his office and closed the door gently behind him.
Miles was just going to get another secretary after he fired Natalie days ago. He had made it strictly in the rules of application that no woman should apply as she wouldn’t be accepted.
The interview soon started, and after interviewing four different people who had come to apply for the role of a secretary, he finally found the one he was looking for.
“You are hired, Mr. Sam Kennedy. You can resume work next week,” He handed the young man in his late twenties a brown file.
“Thank you so much, Sir. I’m really grateful for this opportunity,” Sam was a college graduate who had been searching for a job for a year and a half since his graduation but was just getting the luck of being hired by Miles now.
“Hmm… You may leave,”
“Yes, Sir,” Same finally left, and he breathed out.
The next interview was for the personal assistant role since his workload was too much and he needed an assistant.
He reached for the telephone, pressed a few numbers, and dialed it.
“Start sending in the people who are here for the personal assistant interview,” He said on the phone, but his eyebrows knitted immediately when he heard a different yet familiar voice from the other end.
“There won’t be a need to hire a new assistant. I’m here for you,” The call disconnected immediately.
“Who was that? Why does he sound like Rob?” He mumbled as he dropped the phone back on the desk. Rob was his College mate and best friend who had been by his side for years, assisting him in the company before he traveled out of the country three years ago. Miles was sure that it was not Rob as they spoke just the previous day and he didn’t mention that he would be back today.
The knock on the door disrupted him a few minutes later, and he ushered whoever was at the door, inside. His jaw however dropped to the ground when he saw the least expected person standing in his office with his hands tucked inside his pockets, looking as elegant as the way he had left three years ago.
“Rob?” Miles called surprisingly as his eyes narrowed in shock.
“Surprised?” Rob shrugged and chuckled as he walked elegantly over to the sofa and slumped on it. He crossed his legs and raised one of his eyebrows.
“What the…” Miles paused, still surprised.
Rob was still as handsome as always with his charming oval-shaped face, sharp jawline, a pair of black sparkling and charming, thick eyebrows, long natural eyelashes, broad chest and sexy biceps, and a perfect height of 6’1ft.
“So…” Rob paused as he stood from the sofa and went to sit on the chair across from Miles.
“Can I still be hired to be your assistant, boss?” Rob leaned forward with a sweet smile on his face.
“I’m shocked. Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? We talked yesterday,”
“I wanted to surprise you, and from the look on your face, I guess I succeeded. You are really surprised,” Rob shrugged.
“That’s not important for now. Do you have a girlfriend now? It’s been three years, so don’t even tell me that you don’t,” Rob knocked briefly on the desk.
Miles smiled as the thought of May crossed his mind at that moment.
“What’s up with that smile? It’s suspicious,” Rob knitted his eyebrows
“I don’t have a girlfriend…”
“What the fuck! It’s been three fucking ye…”
“I’m married,” Rob’s voice trailed off, and his jaw dropped at the next words that came out of Miles’s mouth.
“Wait… What! You got married?” Rob’s eyes slowly widened in shock as he leaned forward.
“Are you kidding me? How are you married? I mean, when? Why didn’t I know about it?” Rob was so curious that he couldn’t hold back his questions.
“That’s not important for now. I’m married, and that’s what’s important,” Miles’s reply came out sarcastically, and Rob blinked his eyes rapidly. Is this real?
