Falling for my Ex-Fiancee’s Best friend

The act

Demelza was dumbfounded by Nathan’s acting, he had turned to a stranger without batting his lashes. What did she expect when he was a lawyer, obviously he was good at pretending and lying.

She exchanged a glance with him and decided to play along. If Hampton knew that she had approached him in any form whether as an attempted one night stand or client then her world would be doomed. She might even end up losing her father.

“No this is our first time meeting Mr. Storms. It is really an honor to meet someone as prestigious as you. Not many people my status can afford that,” she let him kiss the back of her hand in a gentlemanly way. However, the cynical light in his eyes never left her mind.

“Ah, I do not want to stay long with you all. You can have fun, I will be at the other end,” Hampton threw Demelza a quick glance before he excused himself from the group.

Demelza had noticed the frown on his face when Nathan had kissed her hand. She was rather surprised that he didn’t throw a fit at such action. Normally, he would have collided his fist to the jaw of any man that led his fingers on her. But he remained composed and left when he couldn’t stand her presence.

‘What a dirty jerk’ she thought in her mind as she watched his back mix with the crowd.

“I will leave you two to mingle in the moment. Spencer and I have another place to be at,” Katherine threw her friend a knowing gaze before she walked away with her husband.

“May I have this dance?,” Nathan asked as the light on the dance floor dim and a slow yet sensual music began to play. Demelza nodded and they both turned to the dance floor.

Nathan kept his eyes on her as he couldn’t help but feel affected by her ravishing blue eyes that took away his senses. He had found her very stunning the moment his eyes locked on her after she had walked in through the door.

His hand went to her lower back feeling the little skin her dress had revealed for any man’s touch. Definitely he won’t let some other guy touch her not that he cared anyway.

“I didn’t know you were a pretty actor Mr storms. If I didn’t know you, I would have fallen prey to your pretense,” Demelza bit her lower lip as she reclined close to his body. The way his hand caressed her skin made her feel pretty conscious around him.

He noticed her reaction and tightened his grip around her. Anyone who saw them would think that they were definitely a couple because the way their bodies moved to the tempo of the song was rather Intense.

“Would you have liked it if I said I had met you before?,” he whispered to her ears making the hair on her body raise from his husky deep voice.

“No,” she muttered trying hard not to show the very attraction she felt towards him. Only the heavens would determine how red her face is at the moment. In a way, she thanked the dim light which was able to hide her crimson cheeks.

“Very well, I’m afraid that I have not complimented your dress yet. You look very… pretty in it,” he said avoiding to call her beautiful when his head screamed the word within.

“Thank you, you look dashing in your tuxedo,” she replied and he spun her around indicating the half time of their dance.

“Enough with the compliments,” Nathan decided to kill off the intense chemistry that was following between them. “Have you gotten a lawyer to defend your father yet?,” he asked directing his question to the main issue she was having as he guided her on the dance floor.

“No, what about you?, have you changed your mind about helping me?,” she inquired, inching close as her eyes stared intently in his brown orbs.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.

Nathan stayed quiet for a while sighing within as he told her his adamant decision. He had warned her beforehand to reconcile with Hampton. She was no match for him in any way.

“My decision still stands, I can’t help you in any way since you have refused to settle things with him,” he said referring to Hampton. Demelza’s face twisted as she felt herself crumble down within.

“There is no way I’m going to settle things with Hampton. He is the one that took my father away with no just reason. So why do I have to be the one to reconcile with him. If he has any sense of conscience then he…,” Demelza almost blurted out the part where Hampton had cheated on her in the open which would definitely caught people’s attention as they were already looking at them.

“Look, I can not help you save your father but I can Link you to someone who is good enough to defend him if you still want to push the matter to court. I have chosen to defend Hampton and there is no two ways about it,” he stated and Demelza attempted to leave him but his grip around her waist tightened. “You are weak Miss Thorpes. Hampton have a strong backer who could clear his name without stress. How is it that you dated someone like him without the thought that he could easily throw you aside?. Rich men don’t settle for women without background or status,” Nathan coldly said to her face.

She knew that this was where he was heading to but she didn’t expect him to pour it down to her face easily. Nathan sighed ignoring the fact that his words had hurt her. “Here, take this, it is a business card of my colleague. If things goes well, he might end up pleading less punishment for your father. Just settle with…,”

“No, don’t tell me that,” Demelza broke away from him trembling from his ugly words. He had stated the fact that the rich could easily get away with their plots while people like her die in suppression.

In panic she fed the room ignoring every call Nathan had muttered.
