Chapter 366
By the time Joshua found his way back to Oak Lake, a whole week had slipped by. The late April breeze carried a gentle warmth that hinted at the summer ahead. Joshua, dressed sharply in a black shirt and trousers, cut a striking figure with his broad shoulders and trim waist. His chiseled features had an air of aloofness, and his eyes were as mysterious and deep as a midnight sea.
But the moment he laid eyes on Allison, that cool detachment vanished, replaced by a soft, tender warmth.
Allison, seeing Joshua, assumed he was just making his usual rounds at the law firm. She greeted him with a casual, "Morning, Mr. Fisher."
Joshua's eyes flitted around the office, taking note of a new face before settling back on her. He handed her a box, "Allie, open it up."
The new face belonged to Brooklyn, a personal bodyguard Javier had hired for Allison. An American with Chinese roots, Brooklyn was her name.
She wore her hair in a neat, short bob just above her ears. Her sun-kissed complexion hinted at an athletic lifestyle. Standing tall at six feet, her lean yet muscular build radiated confidence and security.
Allison had Brooklyn working as her personal assistant, taking care of tasks outside her legal duties. Her hefty salary-two hundred grand a month-came straight from Javier's account. Brooklyn had been at the firm for five days and had even moved in with Allison, shadowing her every move and sharing meals and accommodations.
Allison eyed the box in Joshua's hand, "What's inside?"
"A gift for you," he replied.
She turned back to her computer, typing with an indifferent look, "No need."
"Not even curious enough to take a peek before deciding?"
Joshua moved closer, opened the box, and revealed a gorgeous scarf.
Allison couldn't help but admire it. She had to admit, Joshua had a knack for picking out nice things; the scarf was definitely her style.
Joshua caught the glimmer of interest in her eyes and smiled, "I hear these scarves are a hit with the ladies. It's a local New York brand, exclusive to the city. Many women make sure to snag one during their visits. The moment I saw it, I thought of you."
Allison shot back, "Mr. Fisher seems to know a lot about women's tastes, doesn't he?"
Joshua was quick, "Megan suggested it."
"Oh, did she?" Allison said coolly. "It's beautiful, but you should probably give it to Megan, don't you think?"
Joshua chuckled softly, his eyes lighting up with warmth, "Jealous?"
His teasing tone sparked a flicker of annoyance in Allison.
With a slight frown, she lowered her voice, "Not at all."
Joshua held her gaze, his eyes gentle and patient, "Megan's
grandfather and my grandmoth
were siblings, so she's my cousin. I'll introduce you two someday."
Allison huffed, "No thanks, not interested."
Joshua's handsome face held a gentle smile, "Alright, alright. No introductions
then. You carry on with your work."
He placed the scarf back in the box and set it gently on her desk, "Keep it." With that, Joshua left.
The elegant white box remained on Allison's desk. Once she wrapped up her work, her eyes drifted to the box. She paused for a few seconds, then let out a quiet sigh.
...
After work, Allison headed out for dinner with Joy, Breanna, and Brooklyn.
Every time Breanna saw Brooklyn, she couldn't help but gush, "She's just so cool, seriously. Like a poster girl for the queer community That look is pure heartthrob material!" noveldrama
Joy looked at Breanna, feigning shock, "Breanna, if you keep this up, I might start questioning your orientation!"
What do you think?
