Chapter 50
Chapter 50
The staff held the mouse tremblingly and fast-forwarded the surveillance footage.
The image on the screen was moving so swiftly that all one could see was a blur.
“Stop!” Evander stared at the surveillance footage and ordered in a deep voice, “Rewind to the fifth minute and twentieth-second mark.”
The staff did as he was told and saw Angeline moving anxiously in the surveillance footage. “Mr. Golding, the room Ms. Sorelle went into appears to be the freezer room.”
Freezer room? Evander’s expression turned grim, and his heart sank. Why did Angeline go into the freezer room? Could it be because of Floretta?
Evander then looked at his watch and realized how much time had passed.
It was getting colder and colder in the freezer room. Slowly, Angeline was growing more and more tired, and her eyelids felt increasingly heavier. At the same time, she was losing hope. Am I really going to die here today? But I haven’t had my revenge yet or gotten back Sorelle Group’s shares. I can’t just die like this.
Bam!
Suddenly, she heard someone kicking down the door to the freezer room forcefully. “Angeline!” someone shouted.
Angeline tried to open her eyes, but she could barely see his face clearly. All she could do was raise her hand toward the voice and touch the person’s face. A faint smile then appeared on her face.
All of a sudden, she remembered the time when she was young and obsessed with romantic fantasies. Back then, I said that the person I love must be a knight in shining armor, and he had to be the strongest man in the world. He has to be the one who comes to my rescue when I’m in danger. In
reality, I’ve really found myself a knight in shining armor. However, I never expected things to end up this way.
After some time, she felt someone lifting her up. As she was gradually losing consciousness, she saw his handsome face through her blurry vision.
After that, she heard a person shouting at the top of their lungs, “Quick! Call an ambulance!”
By the time Angeline regained consciousness again, it was already afternoon.
She opened her eyes and swept a confused glance at the ward she was in.
When she tried to sit up, however, she couldn’t help but groan in pain as her body protested the movement.
“Hey! Stop it, will you? You’re injured,” Nancy grumbled as she was pouring a glass of warm water. Handing the glass to Angeline, she went on, “The doctor said that you should drink more warm water. Take the medicine on the table tonight, okay?”
Angeline came to her senses when she heard those words, and her memory flooded back.
“Where’s Floretta?” Angeline asked anxiously. “How is she?”
Nancy shook her head and sighed. “She has a weak immune system, so she’s still in the operating room now. I heard that Mr. Golding is worried sick.”
“I need to go and have a look.” With that, Angeline quickly put on her shoes. However, her knees went weak the moment she stood up.
“Are you able to walk?” Nancy quickly went up to hold her.
“Yes, I’m fine. Don’t worry.” Angeline shot Nancy an assuring look before staggering out of the ward and toward the operating room on the third floor.
At that moment, the surgery was still ongoing, and she saw Evander and Sylas waiting outside the operating room. It was a horrifying sight.
“Mr. Golding, how is Floretta doing?”
Evander’s expression took a sharp change when he saw Angeline. “What are you doing here?”
Angeline’s head was hung low, so she didn’t see the expression on Evander’s face. “I heard that Floretta isn’t doing well, so I thought I should come and have a look.”
“You heard that?” Evander was already in a bad mood because of what happened to Floretta. When he heard what she said, his expression turned grimmer, and he questioned, “How did you end up fainting in the freezer room along with Floretta? Additionally, it was right after I left. Explain yourself.”
Angeline was mystified by his question. She couldn’t help but argue, “I find it weird as well, okay? When I arrived in the freezer room, Floretta was already lying on the floor. I couldn’t open the door to head out either.”
“Who in the production team would dare to frame you?”
Angeline went silent because she had the same question on her mind. The film crew has always been strict with their security. How did such a thing happen? RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Right then, the door to the operating room opened, and the doctor walked out.
Evander walked up to the doctor and asked nervously, “How did it go?”
The doctor looked at him solemnly and answered, “The external injuries Ms. Golding has suffered aren’t troublesome. However, we found something weird in her body.”
“What do you mean?” Evander was usually calm and collected, but at that moment, he was about to panic.
The doctor whipped out a radiographic film and pointed at a spot that showed the presence of some liquid substance. “When we were doing a full body check-up on Ms. Golding, we found an unknown substance in her stomach. Our preliminary conclusion is that she swallowed some glue.”
Glue? Angeline frowned. When she saw Evander looking at her suspiciously, she knew what it meant, so she quickly explained, “Mr. Golding, the food was checked by the film crew before they brought it over, so it can’t be that.”
Francesca wouldn’t have done something like that either.
Hence, everyone was baffled by what had happened to Floretta.
Instead of questioning her further, Evander ordered Sylas to get the doctor to examine the food Floretta had eaten recently.
“Ms. Sorelle, you better pray that you’re not the one who caused this!” Evander fumed. He was exuding a cold aura as he entered the operating room.
Angeline gulped in fear and stumbled backward. She only managed to support herself once she had backed into a wall and leaned on it.
Meanwhile, she could hear Floretta sobbing from the corridor. “I don’t want this, Daddy! Get the doctors to leave!”
Hearing that, Angeline instinctively walked toward the entrance of the operating room and peeked inside through the window on the door. There, she saw Evander holding onto Floretta while she was getting treated by gastric lavage. At the same time, a few nurses were holding her down.
The pain of that medical procedure would have been unbearable even for an adult, let alone a five- year-old child.
Angeline tensed up when she saw what Floretta was going through. Suddenly, the door to the operating room sprung open.
Evander looked at her in annoyance and asked, “Why are you still here?”
“I…”
Floretta saw Angeline and cried weakly, “Angel… I want Angel to hold me.” She was refusing to cooperate with the nurses and reached out her arms toward Angeline.
“Mr. Golding, it seems like your daughter likes this lady a lot. Perhaps you should let her try calming the child down,” one of the nurses advised.
Evander furrowed his brows and went quiet as he stared at Floretta.
Meanwhile, Angeline took the initiative to walk toward Floretta. She wiped the tears off Floretta’s cheeks and consoled her gently, “Be good, Floretta. Don’t cry anymore, okay? I’m here.”
Her words worked like a charm to calm Floretta down.
Floretta then opened her arms and pleaded softly, “Hug me?”
Angeline couldn’t bear to turn her down. Worried, she turned toward Evander. Seeing that he wasn’t going to stop her, she reached out her arms to bring Floretta into a hug.
The moment Floretta was in Angeline’s embrace, she instantly felt safe. Therefore, she wrapped her arms around Angeline’s neck tightly, refusing to let go.
Angeline’s heart ached while she gently rubbed Floretta’s back.
