Chapter 29 - Some revelations and forgiveness
He stared at my face for a few minutes.
"Your mother was a human who was turned, right?"
I nodded," Yeah she was a keeper like my aunt Flora."
"Are you certain?" He asked quietly.
"What do you mean?" I asked surprised.
"Today in the Alpha meeting, I met an old friend of mine. He knew your parents. Michelson told me that your mother was a witch."
"What! That's the most stupid thing I have ever heard." I replied, feeling a bit enraged. "Is that what Alphas do? Gossip about dead parents?"
He held me tighter," please don't be angry, love, I am not trying to insult your mother. A natural-born witch is rare and cherished. We often take their help for getting different spells. They are very much respected. If your mother was a witch, that makes you special."
My anger was replaced by confusion.
"I don't understand. Rick never told me anything like that."
He rubbed my bare arm absent-mindedly while staring at the crackling fire.noveldrama
"I talked to your brother as well, he confirmed that your mother was a witch. So is your aunt Flora."
My eyes were as wide as saucers. On second thought, Lucian seemed right, Aunt Flora's skills with herbs, her ability to talk to ghosts etc. did match with the characteristics of a witch, though I always assumed them to be her eccentricities.
I started to get up but was held back by his grip on my arm.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"I need to talk to Rick and aunt Flora, why have they kept me in the dark until now." I was a little miffed.
He chuckled.
"You can talk to them when I take you to meet them. Few things should be discussed in person, not on a call. It can hinder the communication."
I faced him and smiled.
"What?" He looked at me puzzled.
"Your thoughts are just like mine."
He laughed," that is why we are mates. We have more similarities between us than you can ever imagine." He smirked.
I raised an eyebrow.
"Really? Like what?"
He gave a mischievous smile.
"Like we both love apples."
I burst into laughter.
"Who told you that I like apples?"
"I am just observant," he shrugged.
"You are just being silly," I replied.
Being around Lucian was like breathing. It felt natural. We talked endlessly. It felt like I had known him my entire life. The more I learned about him, the more I was intrigued.
We shared common interests and similar views on things. We could talk politics and religion without offending each other. He had been a hard worker, as I had been all his life. Those engineering books I saw in his library bore testimony to his Mechanical Engineering degree from Stanford.
We spent the whole night talking and gorging on a late-night pizza. The omegas in the kitchen had gone into a frenzy when Lucian had ordered a pizza. He did not have to be anywhere too early, we spent the time talking and laughing late into the night in front of the fire.

I was woken up by a flurry of movement in the room. I stretched on the fur rug where we had been sleeping on. Lucian was pacing in the room talking on the phone. He had that stern Alpha face on. The one that clearly said not to argue with him. Seemed like there was trouble. He was shirtless again. I rolled my eyes.
"What's up?" I asked, trying not to look at his luscious, muscled chest.
"There was an attack near the pack boundaries this morning. One of the omegas, a teenage girl, was almost kidnapped. Fortunately, the trackers and the guards drove them off." He said grimly.
"Oh! I am so sorry. I hope the girl is fine."
"Yeah, she is fine but shocked. Hence, I am going to punish the families of the traitor! Those wolves who turned rogue."
My mouth opened in surprise.
"But they weren't involved. Why would you punish innocent family members?"
He ran his hand through his hair, "to set an example. So that others refrain from following them."
"It's still unfair," I said, folding my arms.
"My word is the law. I decide what is fair and what's unfair." He retorted.
I shook my head in frustration.
"Their families are already ashamed. They have requested me to cast them out. Some of them even tried to commit suicide. The pack would shun them and never accept them. They should leave." He explained.
"Since you know they were not involved, isn't there any way to make the pack realize it wasn't their fault?"
I finally asked him.
"Parents counsel their children, but they shouldn't be held responsible for the wrong choices their child makes. Would they listen if you say that? If you openly forgive them, would the pack accept it? Would it improve things?"
"Yes," he said pensively, "but I won't do that."
"Why?" I questioned.
"Because I am angry that they raised children that would harm my mate, my pack," he said hotly. His eyes had taken on a strange glow. His wolf was on the
edge.
I walked up to him and hugged him. His body felt warm and very comfy.
"Anger doesn't resolve anything. You are simply using them to vent out your anger, which is not right. Just grant them forgiveness and move on. If they are guilty, then kill them or cast them out."
I took a breath and continued. He was not going to like my opinion. I felt his hand going around my waist tightly. Lucian had not moved a muscle; he just held me. I shifted a little, wondering what he would do.
"We need to go," he said softly.
After some time, we were making our way towards the staircase to the central hall.
"Bring me the families of the traitors," he said aloud.
We stood halfway up the first flight of stairs and waited. Lucian just stood staring out across the crowd of wolves. I noticed the pack was gathering to watch this latest drama.
I could not get over how uncomfortable I was now. They crowded the main floor and lined the stairs going all the way up to the third floor. I could see the familiar faces of, Katherine, Savannah, Rain, Damon, and Eliza.
A small group of people were ushered in front of Lucian on the main floor.
"Your children are an embarrassment," Lucian said in a low, commanding voice. "When they are found, they will be torn to shreds for their crimes."
He took a breath, as though steeling himself, and continued. "I find the rest of you blameless for their actions. You should not be held accountable for the activities of your grown children. If you wish to leave this pack, I will allow it, but I do not want any of you to go. Your family is here, and this is where you should remain."
A wave of the agreement as well as disagreeing growls went through the pack.
"I don't want to hear any complaints of harassment towards these people. "He ordered sternly.
Whoever had been disagreeing, they went quiet. Lucian stepped down towards the families. Not knowing what to do, I followed him. As we got closer, I had a chance to see how tired and sad they all looked. Lucian leaned down, touched each one of them; a handshake to some or a pat on the shoulder to others. A few of them bowed to me but did not try to touch me. At last, one tentative female reached out her fingers to me. I squeezed her hand gently in reassurance. Once they were done. Lucian led me the way up the steps.
"They are forgiven," he said. "The pack will accept them again." He said to me.
I felt proud and overwhelmed. Leaning forward, I placed a peck on his cheek. He looked at me surprised and smiled. Before I could react, he had pulled me towards him and caught my lips in a kiss. I could hear cheering and howls from below and around us as he kissed me deeply on the steps right in front of the pack.
