Chapter 23
Chapter 23 Eat Humble Pie
Avery was right, Judy and relicia started it.
They tried to get Darya thrown out of the spa, but their plan backfired.
Then they lied to Micah and dragged him into the middle of this.
'Micah! She hit me!' Felicia refused to acknowledge the security footage.
So what if she called Darya names?
That woman deserved it!
'You started it,' Micah pointed out coldly.
Felicia covered her swollen cheeks with both hands. 'But she hit me! Are you
going to side with an outsider? I'm your sister!'
'Thank you,' Micah said to the manager.
He ignored his sister and strode towards the front door.
He couldn't believe he got pulled out of an important meeting for such a frivolous dispute.
Judy and Felicia exchanged a shocked look.
How could Micah just let it go like that?
Felicia chased after him. 'But she hit me!'
'You provoked her first.'
'But she deserved it! She humiliated me online. Everybody's laughing at me. They called me a thief? If not for
her-'
'Shut up!' Micah whirled around.
He pinned his sister with an icy glare. 'You stole the diamond ring and let her take the blame. The ring belongs to her. She could have called the cops on you. If you don't want to be called a thief, then you shouldn't have stolen someone else's property!' >
Felicia hunched her shoulders.
Her eyes darted around. 'But it's not her ring. You bought it. It's your money, your property.'
Micah took a deep breath.
He didn't want to argue with his sister in public.
They were already drawing curious glances from passersby.

'You are right,' he said in a low voice. I bought the ring. Then I gave it to her. So it rightfully belongs to her. If you don't want to end up in jail, you better give the ring back to her.'
'But the casino has it,' Felicia mumbled.
Then you offer compensation. I'm not kidding about jail. She could sue you.
Especially now that Darya had Avery on her side.
Micah made a mental note to restrict Felicia's credit card spending limit.
He had been so preoccupied with work, he failed to notice his sister had grown into such a spoiled, wilful brat.
He didn't even know when she'd developed the vice of gambling.
'Micah!' Judy spread out both arms in front of l'elicia like a protective mother hen. 'How can you talk to your sister like that? Telly's not wrong, you know. That woman put the ring in the safe. She didn't take it with her when she left. Which means she no longer wanted it. How can she sue Felly over something that's not hers?'
Micah looked up at the sky and prayed for patience.
His headache was getting worse.
When it came to anything related to Darya, his mother was like a bull who saw a red cape.
There was simply no reasoning with her.
It made him wonder about what Darya said earlier.
She claimed the slaps were payback for what Judy and Felicia did to her in the past.
What exactly did she mean by that?
What had his mother and sister done to her?
After Darya manipulated him into marriage, he spent the majority of his time at the Emerald Hill condo, which was nearer to his office anyway, while Darya lived with Judy and Felicia in the house at Hyacinth Park.
Had she been...mistreated?
Micah glanced from Judy to Felicia, then back to Judy.
It was hard for him to imagine his mother and sister ill-treating or even abusing
someone, but the way they'd been acting towards Darya...
Micah shook his head to banish the unpleasant thought.
If they refused to see what they did to Darya was wrong, then he had to speak the language they did understand-money.
"The man she's with, his name is Avery McAllister.'
'So?' Felicia crossed her arms. 'He's probably just another rich schmuck who
pays her for sex. Once he gets tired of her, he'll toss her aside like trash.'
Micah took no notice of his sister's rude and ignorant remark.

Humble Pie
Felicia's world revolved around jewellery and clothes and makeup and fun.
He spoke to Judy directly, 'The McAllisters essentially control the economy of
Hagen Avery is the Paragon Group's president.'
'So?' Judy gulped, already starting to regret the confrontation earlier.
She, unlike Felicia, knew a little bit about the business world.
After all, it was Micah's company that was paying for her pampered lifestyle.
But even she had underestimated the McAllisters' clout.
Granted, they were rich, but so were the Cavanaughs.
She had no reason to be scared of Avery,
But Micah soon disabused her of that notion. 'If Avery gives the word, Zenith could
be shunned by the business community. Our clients can take their contracts elsewhere. Banks can stop extending credit lines. Employees can be poached. The company can be wiped out in a matter of weeks.'
Micah built Zenith from the ground up.
The company was growing fast, but still no match for the behemoth that was
Paragon, which stood on generations of accumulated wealth.
Judy gripped her Gucci tote bag. 'You are just trying to scare me.'
'I'm not,' Micah retorted. 'If you don't want to end up sleeping on the street beforenoveldrama
the end of this month, get Felicia to apologise to Darya.'
'What?' Felicia exploded. 'Apologise to that woman? Never!'
Judy weighed the costs and benefits, and decided that her son was probably
right.
She grabbed Felicia's arm. 'You'll do what your brother says.'
'But Mum!' Felicia whined. 'I can't apologise to that bitch. Haven't I been
humiliated enough?'
Micah updated his mental plan-freeze all of Felicia's credit cards.
She would cave once she realised she didn't have enough money of her own to
afford a pair of socks, let alone her beloved Jimmy Choos.
As Micah got in his car and drove away, he wondered if he owed Darya an
apology as well.
As her husband, though it was in name only, there were certain duties that were expected of him.
He didn't owe her love-that wasn't his obligation.
But he owed her at least respect.
