Legendary Football Superstar

Chapter 025: Audacious Beyond Measure

Third and fifteen, stuck at their own fifteen-yard line, right on the edge of the end

zone.

Man, this is a tough spot. The offense has barely any options here. One tiny screw-up, and not only do they lose the ball, but the other team might score right from the edge. Best bet? Push forward a few yards, get a better spot to punt, ditch this offensive play, and let the defense handle it. Then come back swinging.

And let's be real, the quarterback for the UCLA Bruins right now ain't Peyton Manning.

The Bruins' offense lined up, five guys on the line spread out. Two wide receivers on the left, one wide receiver and a tight end on the right, and a running back chilling behind them. John and Logan were Luke's go-to guys, and Marcus, the running back, had scored their only touchdown today.

Luke stood behind the center, sneaking a peek at the clock ticking down, "Fifteen, fourteen..." showing how much time they had left to start the play. His eyes darted to the Trojans' defense across from him.

Luke knew these guys, but they didn't know him. They'd probably underestimate him, but this wasn't a practice game. They were still locked in, watching closely, trying to nail this defensive play and keep their lead.

Luke could go for a long pass, like in practice, catch them off guard, and make a killer

move.

But this was different. It wasn't the start of the game; it was third and fifteen, and they were in a crappy spot. A long pass might be the best shot to make something happen, but what about the defense?

From their side, they'd be mainly guarding against a ground attack, stopping the offense from getting a better punting spot. But they'd also be ready for any surprise moves, especially long passes. They might even be waiting for it.

So, Luke couldn't risk it. From this position, any tiny mistake could lead to an interception, and things would get ugly fast. In practice, it was the start, and he could handle a failed long pass. But in this real game, he couldn't afford it, especially if he wanted to win.

"Game tasks:

- Complete your first pass in an NCAA game; Task requirement: None; Task reward: Basic points +1.

- Score your first touchdown in an NCAA game; Task requirement: None; Task reward: Basic points +1.

- Score a touchdown in an NCAA game; Task requirement: None; Task reward: Basic points +1 for each touchdown.

-Rack up passing yards in an NCAA game; Task requirement: At least seventy-five passing yards; Task reward: Basic points +1.noveldrama

- Win an NCAA game: Task requirement: None; Task reward: Basic points +2."

The system in his head popped up with these tasks, familiar but with a twist. But time was ticking, and Luke couldn't waste a second reading through all the details. He knew one thing: when he hit the field, winning was the only thing that mattered! To win, he had to make the right call!

Luke bent down slowly, eyes locked on the defensive players across from him, his pupils darting around, taking in the whole field. He thought he'd be nervous, but nope, he was cool as a cucumber. It felt like he'd been here a million times. His blood was pumping, skin heating up, and he loved every second of it.

"Attack!"

Luke yelled out, no warning, with eleven seconds still on the clock. He'd only been bent down for five seconds. It had only been thirty-five seconds since he stepped onto the field. This unknown player didn't have time to chat with the team, talk to the coach, or soak in the atmosphere. He just went for it.

So decisive, so bold. Even if he was following the coach's plan, his decisiveness was something else.

Luke got the ball from the center and, without any fancy moves, started running to the right. The whole offensive line moved with him. The defensive players didn't have time to think; they just reacted, moving to their left with the offensive line, trying to break through and sack the quarterback, shutting down any chances in the pocket.

But that was no easy feat. The whole offensive line was moving fast. Trying to move both horizontally and vertically was tough, and their impact was naturally lessened.

More importantly, Marcus, who'd been killing it today, was running diagonally, heading right towards Luke. It looked like a handoff was coming any second. The defense had to be ready for a run-especially since they were already out of position, making it even tougher to stop.

As soon as Luke yelled "Attack!", John and Logan didn't even glance back. They just took off.

John sprinted left, cutting through the Trojans' defense at a sharp sixty-degree angle. The cornerbacks in the backfield were scrambling-was it a run or a pass? In a heartbeat, two defenders rushed at John, trying to double-team him. His route was aggressive, and if he caught the pass, it wouldn't just be fifteen yards; it could be twenty or twenty-five! They couldn't risk it.

Meanwhile, Logan bolted to the right. Near the sideline, he made a sharp cut, stopped on a dime, then turned and ran back three steps, made another sharp cut, turning ninety degrees, and sprinted straight ahead. But he wasn't just running blindly. After eight or nine yards, he found an open spot, with the nearest cornerback twenty yards away. Logan adjusted his steps, slowed down a bit, turned his upper body, and raised his right hand high.

Boom, an opening.

Luke's eyes narrowed. He glanced at John, then at the defenders breaking through the line. With a quick pause, he let Marcus run past him to block. Then, with a swift arm movement, no wind-up, he launched the football. It traced a small arc, just enough to clear the defenders' heads. If anyone had raised a hand, they might've swatted it, but no one did.

The football flew fast, spinning like crazy, heading straight for Logan. All Logan had to do was raise his hands and snag it, then, like a tank, he barreled forward.

The moment Luke threw the pass, the defenders realized their mistake and lunged at Logan like wolves. But the gap was too big, and in those two seconds, they couldn't close the distance. They could only watch as Logan caught the pass, with defenders charging at him, trying to bring him down.

But Logan kicked it into high gear.

As a tight end, Logan was already a big dude with serious power. Now, with the momentum of his sprint, he was like a freight train. The first defender tried to tackle him but just bounced off. The second defender hit him hard, but Logan kept pushing forward. It took a third defender to finally bring him down and end the play. Bold! Seriously bold!

Jeff and Nate, sitting in the stands, were floored. Their jaws dropped even more than the Trojans'. The new number eleven didn't play it safe; he went for a gutsy, precise short pass and then used tactics to push forward.

Fifteen yards? Logan didn't just hit the target; he pushed it to twenty-three yards, bringing the Bruins to their own thirty-eight-yard line, just shy of midfield.

"Holy crap! Holy crap!" Jeff kept cursing, unable to stop. That was his only reaction until the Trojans' fans started booing, trying to rattle the newcomer. Then Jeff snapped out of it, jumping up and waving his arms, shouting, "Bruins! Bruins! Bruins!" Nate joined in, standing up and cheering loudly with Jeff. The excitement and shock in their eyes were electric. It wasn't just about winning the game; it was about hope. In that moment, they saw hope!

Luke didn't celebrate. He quickly rallied his teammates, "Move up! Quick, move up!" There was only one quarter left, and they were down by three touchdowns. No time to waste. To win, every second counted.

Logan ran back, ready to high-five Luke, but all he got was a "move forward" gesture. Luke was already leading the charge, leaving the other players looking at each other, a bit confused.

Everyone looked at Logan. It was no secret that Logan and Luke were tight, but Logan just shrugged, "You heard the quarterback, keep attacking. We don't have much time!" Then Logan took off. The other players exchanged glances, and before they knew it, they were grinning. Without saying much, they buried their heads and ran forward, regrouping around Luke, ready for the next play.

But this time, Luke didn't say a word. He just shook his head, signaling everyone to line

up. The team was puzzled, not sure what was up, until they heard Luke repeatedly command, "One, one, one!"

Play one?
