Chapter 103
“The mumber you have dialed is currently unavailable, please try again later…”
Dominick’s phone call still went unanswered. Jenna had escaped back, so he should have finished whatever he was doing. Ethan couldn’t understand why he was still unreachable.
Jasmine came over to his side. “Ethan, how should we deal with this? Considering Jenna’s condition, I think it’s not quite practical to just throw her out.”
“Let’s keep Jenna and Layla apart for now. Once Jenna wakes up, we’ll confront her.”
After three hours, the lights in the operating room finally dimmed.
“How is she, Doctor?”
The doctor pulled down his mask and let out a sigh of relief. “Mrs. Lewis, don’t worry. Ms. Lewis‘ wounds have been treated. She had a quite serious wound in her abdomen, but it’s been taken care of. She passed out due to excessive blood loss, but there are no fatal injuries. She’ll be waking up shortly.”
It should have been good news, yet their faces betrayed a mix of emotions.
Mason was visibly angry. “Why is she coming back? After what she have done to her own sister, she should be thrown out and never allowed to return!”
Jasmine, being a mother, was also angry with Jenna, but seeing her daughter injured softened her heart.
“Jenna’s hurt. Let’s give her a chance to explain herself once she wakes up. Kicking her out now would be like sentencing her to death. If we do that, we are no different from Jenna”
Though Mason’s face was stern, he didn’t say anything more.
“I should head back. You deal with this, Ethan,” he said.
Jasmine knew that Mason couldn’t bring himself to cast out his daughter.
“I’m going back too, Ethan. I’m leaving this in your hands,” Jasmine said, patting Ethan’s shoulder.
Taking a few steps, Jasmine paused. Her eyes seemed to carry a message as she looked back. “Remember, Ethan, she is still your sister. Casting her out is one thing, but don’t go too far.
Without waiting for Ethan’s response, Jasmine hurriedly left.
Ethan stood by the glass window, watching Jenna as she lay motionless in the hospital bed, her face pale and lifeless.
Jenna had made a grave mistake, but they were flesh and blood kin. The idea of killing her, even if Jasmine hadn’t mentioned it, was something he couldn’t bring himself to do.
His anger was real, but he knew deep down if he had a chance to kill Jenna, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Suddenly, the person in the bed stirred and then slowly opened her eyes.
“You’re up?” Ethan–stepped in and closed the door.
It took Jenna a full minute to respond. Then, she slowly turned to look at Ethan.
“Ethan Her voice was laden with grievance, each word trembling with emotion
Ethan’s brow furrowed slightly. Jenna’s face was the spitting image of Lola’s, and hearing such pained words from that familiar face stirred a sense of compassion in him.
“How did you get back? And how did you get hurt?”
Ethan cut to the chase, his questions direct and urgent. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
He needed to know what Dominick had been up to during the past few weeks when he was away.
Jenna seemed frail, her mouth opening as if to speak, but no words came out.
“Rest for now. I’ll stay with you. Don’t try to do anything funny. You’re hurt, and you can’t run away like this.”
In the end, Ethan couldn’t be completely indifferent.
But just that bit of sympathy was enough for Jenna.
As Ethan turned away, the look of hurt in Jenna’s eyes vanished an instant.
Her lips curled into a slight smile, and she looked at Ethan with complex emotions in her eyes.
Behind Jenfia was the Richardson family, and apart from Dominick, no one else could have hurt her like this.
Ethan grew even more convinced of his suspicions. Since Dominick had returned to Talondria, he had undertaken some
serious actions.
Perhaps he could figure out Dominick’s whereabouts from Jenna.
He had been out of contact for a week now, and Ethan couldn’t shake a bad feeling.
Feeling like he was taking a shot in the dark, he dialed the number, but to no avail again, and there was no response.
Frustrating. Ethan put away his phone. As he turned, he found Jenna’s eyes fixed on him.
“What are you looking at?” he frowned.
Jenna’s gaze was intense, momentarily flickering to the phone in Ethan’s hand.
“Nothing, it’s just… It’s been so long since I’ve seen you. I miss you, and I miss Mom and Dad too.”
Her voice was faint, adding a touch of vulnerability to her demeanor.
“So, you still have a family in your eyes. I thought after what you did to Layla, family meant nothing to you.”
Ethan’s response was blunt, clearly defining his current feelings about Jenna.
“Ethan, you see me as nothing but a villain, right?”
Jenna’s eyes carried a hint of desolation, portraying her as one at a disadvantage.
“I’m aware that in your hearts, I’m the villain. I’ve wronged Layland lost the right to stand before you.”
Ethan didn’t want to hear her excuse and just cut her off. “Just answer my question. Spare me the rest.
“Some choices come with inevitable consequences. You’ve lost the right to step foot in Silverbrook Tower again after hurting
your own sister.”
Jenna, suddenly emotional, struggled to sit up, her eyes reddening as she glared at Ethan.
“I’ve done something terrible, but have you ever thought about why I did it? I had the perfect princess life. Why would I risk everything for this?
“I could have lived a happy life in Silverbrook Tower, forever without a worry about food or clothing, living my wonderful life. Family fortune never really mattered to me, because no matter who takes over the family business, it doesn’t really affect my life!
“But from the moment of our birth, you all doted on Layla with all your heart. We were born together, yet just because she came into this world mere minutes after me, she’s the beloved youngest of the Lewis family. But did you ever consider that we were born at the same time? Why should there be such a big difference in the way you treat us?”
Jenna didn’t answer his question. Instead, she hurled back a series of accusations that Ethan hadn’t anticipated.
Is this why you hurt Layla!”
Jenna twisted her mouth into a bitter smile. The reason I became like this is partly your fault. Mom and Dad favored Layla, and didn’t you do the same? Watching all of you treat her so well it was inevitable that I felt jealous and envious.
“Back then, I was just a child. All I thought about was if Layla wasn’t there, you would’ve given all your love to me. So, I figured if someone kidnapped Layla, maybe I could take her place. After all, her kidnapping has a connection to all of you!”
