Love's Redemption

Redmption 72

Redmption 72

I turned around only to see Chris standing right there. He looked at me as well,

but he turned to ask Kara, “Where are you going?”

“Maddie got ulcers, so I’m going to buy some medicine for her,” Kara said. Chris immediately walked over quickly.

“You haven’t been drinking enough water again, right?” he said, knowing me too well. I got dehydrated very easily and usually stuck to eating soupy foods and drank as much water as I could.

If I didn’t, I would get dehydrated and either get tons of nosebleeds or ulcers.

I had been with him for ten years, and he still knew me well enough to know

that much.

However, his words acted like a dagger to me. I couldn’t help but think about how he told Derick he felt like we were “too close“.

We knew each other so well that he no longer had any interest in me and could be seduced by a widow.

“Is there a reason you’re here, Mr. Gildon?” I didn’t reply to his question. Instead, I spoke to him in as cold and formal of a tone as I could.

Chris‘ expression immediately darkened at my aloof response. He was about to say something when he saw Brandon standing behind me, so he said, ” Come here. I have something to tell you.”

I didn’t know what he wanted to say, but whether it was private or business- related, it wasn’t appropriate to say it in front of Brandon, I walked a few feet away from Brandon to talk to Chris.

I stopped before we got too far and said, I’m working on a tight deadline. Please say what you have to say.”

He stopped walking. His youthful features were tinged with a hint of distaste. You’re trying to make me angry on purpose to get revenge, right?”

“What?” His question was so unexpected that I couldn’t understand what he meant.

“Maddie, I don’t care that you made a fuss about not wanting to get married. If you want to try and piss me off by hooking up with some guy, whatever, but don’t go fishing in our friend group. You’re just going to ruin friendships that way.” He was saying too much for me to keep up at once.

After a brief moment, I finally understood what he was trying to say. His last sentence clued me in that he was talking about Derick.

I guessed that someone had told him about Derick stopping by. I just never expected he would assume Derick and I would get together.

He was clearly projecting his own twisted ideals onto others. I felt my face turning warm with anger. “Chris, do you really think everyone would do what you did?”

He didn’t seem to understand me. His pretty almond eyes narrowed slightly as I scoffed. “You know, not everyone would get together with their good friend’s partner.”

His expression immediately soured. “Maddie, I told you that Jewel and I aren’t

like that.”

I no longer wanted to waste time arguing over such a thing. “I don’t care. That has nothing to do with me.”

“Tell me the truth, Maddie. Are you bored of me? Is that why you keep hanging) on to this tiny thing?” Chris said, projecting once again.

“Go ahead and think whatever you want. You once said we knew each other so well that you lost interest, right?” It wasn’t my first time bringing that up.

After all, that particular dagger had pierced me too deeply.

Chris clenched his fists. “What are you trying to do?”

“I just want us to stay separated now that we broke up. Don’t hang on to the past, Mr. Gildon. Deleting messages? Asking me about the guys I’m talking to? Come on,” I said straightforwardly.

I had never talked to Chris like that before. In the years we spent together, all I did was go along with whatever he wanted like the perfect girlfriend. From NôvelDrama.Org.

He probably didn’t expect me to be so sharp and cold with him. His expression was extremely dark. “Madeline, do you really think I’m still hung up on you?”

“Of course not. You have money and looks. I bet women are lining up around the block to be with you. Why would you be hung up on anyone?” I said mockingly.

However, the moment I finished speaking, he suddenly stepped closer to me. Since you admit all those things about me, then why are you hanging onto this tiny mistake I made?”

Tiny mistake?

Just like Jewel, he genuinely felt that he wasn’t in the wrong.

I was beginning to feel more and more determined that I had been right not to drag things along.

His words also opened my eyes to the fact that he had only gone so far with Jewel because he had taken my feelings for granted. He thought that I would never leave him.
