Chapter 16
"What's wrong?" Maverick answered her call.
Keeping an eye on the doorway for eavesdroppers, particularly Naomi, Aurora lowered her voice. "Promise you won't back out of marrying me
"Why would I do that?" he asked, his voice steady.
"I just need to know. I'm afraid you'll have second thoughts." She craved his strength, needed him as her foundation through whatever came next.
His expression remained impassive as his words cut like ice. "Don't even think about running from this wedding, Aurora. If you dare try, the Sage family will pay the price"
The line went dead, leaving her staring at her phone with a racing heart. This time around, she'd risk everything for him. No matter what obstacles lay ahead, she would become the Mrs. Parker he'd be proud of and never let him down.
The next day, Maverick surprised everyone by announcing their marriage publicly. Despite the rushed seven-day timeline, his influence smoothed every obstacle. The message was clear. Aurora would be the next Mrs. Parker, no questions asked.
Aurora became the city's most envied woman overnight. Even the kidnapping scandal couldn't dim her star-she'd captured Yuresland's most eligible bachelor, a man whose wealth and power put him in a league of his own. Countless women lay awake at night, burning with jealousy
Wedding preparations moved forward at a rapid pace, the grand ceremony now inevitable.
Even the Sage family had to accept that Parker's marriage gift not only solved their financial crisis but elevated their status. Under his protection, they were untouchable. Elias could only watch as Maverick took control of their family's fate. The night before the wedding, as Aurora wrestled with pre-wedding jitters and contemplated this second chance at happiness, Naomi burst into her
Toom:
Tve arranged your bachelorette party, she announced with a perfectly crafted smile. Time to let loose one last time!"
Aurora met Naomi's enthusiasm with a tired shake of her head. "My reputation's shaky enough. Better not risk more scandal. You go have fun."
"Don't be ridiculous" Naomi grabbed her hands, squeezing them carnestly. "The truth speaks for itself. Besides, you're the guest of honor. We can't celebrate without you"
"I barely know these people," Aurora said, sprawling across her bed. "After getting kidnapped last time, I'm still pretty traumatized.
But Naomi wouldn't be deterred. She never imagined Maverick would make such a public announcement, let alone help the Sage family through their crisis. Jealousy consumed her, eating away at her last shred of reason
The position of Mrs. Parker should be hers, not Aurora's. Tonight was her only chance to change that.
"We'll have safety in numbers," she pressed. I booked Regal Club. It's totally secure. Seeing Aurora's continued reluctance, she added, "Everyone's already waiting They'll talk if you don't show. Let me work my magic. You'll be stunning!"
Aurora marveled at Naomi's acting skills. She silently blamed herself for missing such obvious manipulation in her past life. Without those memories of asylum torture, she might have fallen for it again.
"You're sure it's safe?" she asked, Jetting uncertainty color her voice.
"Absolutely! We can

"No need❞ Aurora sat up with a smile. "You're right. This is my last taste of freedom. Who knows how long I'll survive in the Parker family! Might as well enjoy tonight"
Triumph flickered in Naomi's eyes as she helped Aurora into a rose-red cocktail dress, adding smoky eyes and red lips. The potentially garish combination only emphasized Aurora's natural elegance, the lace neckline lending her swan-like neck an ethereal quality.

"Perry Properties heiress,” Naomi murmured to Aurora. "More bark than bite."

Though expected, the royal jibes grated. "We're all cut from the same cloth here, Aurora responded coolly. "Whatever you have, I have. Whatever you don't, I don't either."
The group's laughter held an edge, and Wendy's smile tightened "Really? Then why make us wait an hour if you're nothing special?"noveldrama
