Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 168

Everett had promised he wouldn't make her take birth control anymore and would use protection instead. She hadn't taken him seriously at the time, but he actually followed through... Saying she didn't feel anything would be a lie. After all, she had once loved him so deeply, yearning for his tenderness and care.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.

After getting ready for the day, Selena headed downstairs for breakfast. Ava seemed unusually cheerful, serving up a variety of breakfast dishes. In a bright tone, she announced, "Ma'am, Mr. Bennett said you can have whatever you want to eat from now on. No need to stick to his tastes."

"He's really paying attention to the little things now, isn't he? Ma'am, your tough times are finally turning around!" Ava added, wiping away a tear with a smile.

Selena didn't say anything, quietly eating her oatmeal. Her feelings were a tangled mess of emotions.

...

In the CEO's office at Bennett Corporation, Derick knocked and entered to brief Everett on the latest updates on Claire and the others. They'd all confessed, and now it was just a matter of waiting for sentencing. He hesitated, choosing his words carefully, "Mr. Bennett, since Claire is your wife's aunt, are you sure about treating her like everyone else?"

Everett and his wife's relationship hadn't been great lately, and Derick worried that this could make things even worse between them. He feared he might get caught in the crossfire, which was a terrifying thought. Derick shivered at the thought, and for the sake of his own peace, he started thinking of ways to plead without annoying the big boss. But before he could say anything, Everett's cold response shattered his hopes. "It's not about treating everyone the same. Claire's sentence will be doubled," Everett stated.

Derick was stunned.

'Is it wise to be so indifferent to self-preservation, boss? You're risking losing your wife like this!' Derick thought.

Leaning back in his leather chair, Everett tapped his fingers on the armrest, thinking for a moment before saying, "Brook's been really interested in that land in the south, right? Give him a call and have him come over to sign the contract."

Derick's eyes widened, almost thinking he'd misheard.

The government was planning to develop a new district in the south, and that particular land's value had skyrocketed. Many envied Everett for his foresight because he had bought it cheap two years ago f Bennett Corporation developed it themselves or sold it at a high price, it would be a big win. However, Everett was ready to hand it over without a second thought.

Derick couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Bennett, are you using this land to keep Brook from bothering your wife? You really do care for her!"

Claire would pay for bullying Selena, and Brook wouldn't condemn her either. Everett would kill two birds with one stone!

Derick realized he'd underestimated his boss and was worrying unnecessarily.

Everett lazily glanced at him, offering no reply except, "You talk too much."

"Mr. Bennett, I'll handle it right away." Knowing his boss' pride, Derick didn't dare say more and quickly left.

...

That afternoon, as Selena was about to head out, she received a call from Brook. She pursed her lips, knowing this call was inevitable, and answered.

Instead of the complaints she

expected, Brook's voice was filled with barely concealed joy. "Selena handle your aunt's situation however you need to. Don't feel guilty. It's my fault for not keeping her in check. She needs to learn."

Selena was taken aback. This didn't sound like her uncle at all.

Sensing something was up, she asked directly, "Did Everett talk to you?"
