Chapter 92
Chapter 92
Alex came to a halt in the middle of his stride, shooting a frigid gaze at Greg Munoz’s way.
Greg, taken aback, queried, “What’s with that look?”
Alex, with a detached tone, suggested, “Let’s head to the hospital wing.”
He shifted his attention away from Greg and toward Candice. His eyes briefly flickered with curiosity as he
asked, “Did you just fly in today?”
Candice, clutching her bag, tensed up at his question.
“I got here last night,” she replied.
Alex scoffed. “You seem anxious.”
Candice momentarily averted her gaze, composing herself before calmly asking, “What brings you here?”
She appeared serene on the outside, but she was in turmoil on the inside.
The unexpected run–in with Alex in Noxville, coupled with him possibly overhearing her exchange with Yvonne,
left her uneasy.
She disliked the feeling of being transparent to him.
All this time, she only introduced Alex to Joe and hardly mentioned her parents.
This led to initial disapproval from Helen, who had critiqued Candice’s family background and upbringing.
“What? Lex, do you know her?” Greg noticed the tension and took a step closer, looking inquisitively at
Candice.
Alex confirmed with a nod. “She’s a company employee.”
Candice gripped her bag strap tighter, pressing on, “I thought you were in a rush to return to Dorrington. What are you doing in Noxville?”
She looked awful, her lack of makeup today accentuating the colorlessness of her lips.
“Lex is here visiting my dad,” Greg quickly interjected, giving Candice a genuine smile.
“You work for Aether Corporation, huh? Are you suddenly nervous about seeing your employer here?”
Candice stayed quiet, her heart pounding and words lodged in her throat, leaving her unable to express herself.
“Candy!”
Suddenly, Yvonne approached her in a panic, with Peach in her embrace.
“Peach has a big bump on her head. Could it be serious? We should get it checked!”
Already dizzy, Candice felt overwhelmed by Yvonne’s loud voice, her vision blurring.

As Yvonne persisted, calling out repeatedly, Candice felt as though her head might be about to explode.
Candice struggled to stand and leaned slightly to one side.
Clenching her teeth to steady herself, she hoarsely told Yvonne, “I’ve just sent you money. You handle it.”
Yvonne retorted, concerned, “But that money is for Peach’s shots.”
Candice felt like she was suffocating once more when she looked at Yvonne. Her already pallid complexion suggested she was on the verge of collapsing at any moment.
Alex watched her intently, his furrowed brows and icy demeanor startling Greg and driving him to believe Alex was upset about running into his employee.
“Go see the doctor,” Alex commanded, scarcely moving his lips.
Candice scowled and was about to protest that her health was none of his concern, but Alex cut her off. “Do you need me to carry you there myself?”
Feeling drained and pale, Candice was inclined to refuse.
Alex uttered sarcastically, “Everyone knows you’re here with me for work. Looking like this, are you implying I’ve treated you poorly?”
Exhausted, Candice merely shook her head, insisting weakly, “I’m alright.”
Alex looked at her. His tone left no room for debate, declaring, “I don’t want to repeat myself.”
In a bustling hospital lobby, Candice trailed Alex to the registration desk, patiently awaiting her turn in the waiting area.
“Candy…”
Yvonne approached cautiously, carrying Peach.
Candice was clear about what she desired. Her mother was expecting her to pay for Peach’s treatment.
Feeling a pulsating ache in her head, Candice massaged her brows, about to rise from her seat.
Greg stepped in, suggesting, “Rest here. I’ll accompany your mom and sister for the registration.”
Candice tensed, trying to decline. “You don’t have to…”
But Yvonne was already gratefully accepting Greg’s offer before Candice could finish.
Resigned, Candice reclined in her seat, her facial muscles numbed, fatigue engulfing her.
A soft scoff nearby alerted her to Alex’s presence.
Hesitantly, Candice said, “I’ll reimburse your friend for the medical costs.”
Alex dismissed it with a wave. “That’s a trivial amount.”
His aloof response heightened Candice’s unease. She inhaled deeply, looking away in silence.
Alex, seemingly indifferent to her discomfort, asked casually, “Struggling financially?”
Candice pinched her palm and responded curtly, “No.”
Alex persisted nonchalantly, “Is that right?”

His tone made it clear that he was just striking up a conversation.
Candice pursed her Ups, choosing silence.
Her number was called, and she stood to enter the consulting room.
The medical diagnosis revealed that she had a mild fever, exhaustion, and anxiety, which were the reasons that caused her heart rate to increase.
Returning with her medication, she found Greg and Alex still there.
Greg updated her, “Your mom and sister left. It’s just a minor head injury. A little ointment should do the trick.”
Candice nodded and asked about the medical bill. “How much? I’ll repay you.”
Greg dismissed her concern. “It’s not a big deal. Don’t worry about it.”
Reluctant to discuss finances in front of Alex, Candice suggested, “Let me add you on WhatsApp. I’ll transfer the money later.”
Greg ultimately consented after sensing her insistence.
Alex dryly remarked on their exchange, “Quite the stickler for principles.”
Candice could not determine if he was being sarcastic.
After adding Greg on WhatsApp and collecting her medicine, she murmured, “I should go now.”
Alex remained quiet.
Greg suggested, “Stay for a meal?”
Candice declined and departed with her medicine.
Alone with Alex, Greg shared his observation. “Your employee’s family situation seems quite complicated.”
Grunted, Alex responded nonchalantly, “Your father has been waiting.”
Greg’s father, a distant relative of Helen’s, had strong ties with their family. He had recently been in an
accident. Since Alex was on a business trip in Stugan, he made a detour to visit him.
They made their way to the ward.
Candice, who was about to leave the hospital, noticed a big ruckus.
She came to a halt and peered around. She saw Yvonne, who should have left by now, desperately holding back a man, attempting to prevent him from doing something. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Behind her was Peach, crying so hard that she was gasping for breath.

Yvonne used her body as a shield against the man’s blows and kicks. She locked eyes with Candice, her expression was one of hope, as if seeing a savior.
