Chapter 22 Things Started to Get Better
Chapter 22 Things Started to Get Better
After a long time, Vincent opened his eyes and found himself lying on the floor of Paul’s office.
The office was in a mess and he was completely naked.
“What the hell happened?”
Just as he was going to get up, he felt his muscles were aching and he nearly couldn’t stand up.
“Why do I remember none of this? Why am I here?”
Vincent got up and dressed himself. Then he recalled something.
“I just spent one hundred thousand dollars on this. Where is the contract?”
He suddenly remembered that he hadn’t gotten the contract yet.
Thank God that he found it on Paul’s desk and it was already stamped.
“Hmm. Calvin, you’re a loser after all. I heard that once we got this contract, you’ll be kicked out of the
Houston family. Great, Rita will finally know that I’m the best choice for her...”
...
In the chairperson’s office, Calvin was sitting in front of Selena.
“What? Is it weird?” Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Selena leaned on a fancy couch and eyed Calvin.
Calvin nodded, “Now...this company is yours?”
“Yes. I came here to have a meeting about the acquisition yesterday. What about you? Do you finally
get the project?”
Calvin smiled, “I was about to give it up. But now I think I have a chance.”
Selena rolled her eyes at him and grinned, “I’m a pretty fair-minded person. Business is business. Just
because you helped me doesn’t mean I can just help you get this project. I need to see if you are
qualified.”
Calvin got serious and said, “Miss Bentley, our clinic is very trustworthy.”
“Okay, then show me what you’ve got.”
Calvin had memorized every detail of the clinic. Plus, he knew Selena before so he wasn’t under a lot
of stress. After a few minutes, the Houston clinic seemed to be the best clinic in the world in his mouth.
Selena abruptly clapped and reached out her hand.
“Mr. Whitney, I think we'll have a great time working together.”
Calvin was stunned, “This...this is it?”
“Yeah, I know what I should know now. What? You got any other requirements?”
Calvin shook his head, “No. So should we sign the contract now ”
“Of course. Judy.”
A pretty secretary walked in and handed the contract to Calvin.
It finally dawned on him that Selena was just messing with him. She had prepared the contract a long
time ago.
“This...” Calvin glanced at it and found that the amount on the contract turned out to be five hundred
thousand dollars.
Rita originally named the price at three hundred thousand and then cut it to two hundred thousand
because she thought the competition was too fierce.
“Miss Bentley, this amount...”
“What? It’s not enough? I can add one hundred thousand at most.”
“No, it’s enough. It’s far beyond our expectation. I just think it’s strange because you just said that
business is business...”
Selena giggled, “Yeah, I know. My business philosophy has always been to make progress together
with partners. You want three hundred thousand then I’ll give you five hundred thousand. Also, you are
required to live up to this standard. Maybe you'll make me one million in profit. Right?”
Calvin gave her a thumb-up. She was indeed a great entrepreneur and the queen of the investment
circle. She had more courage and wisdom than most men.
“And also this...”
Selena unexpectedly handed him another file. Calvin opened it and found out it was the contract of the
medical supplies outsourcing.
“I bought Chelston Healthcare to integrate the whole business ecosystem, but Chelston Healthcare has
a weak spot in terms of medical supplies. In The future, The Houston Clinic will become our essential
partner. Every year, you will provide medical supplies worth no less than one million dollars for
Chelston Healthcare’s major hospitals. Would that be okay?”
Calvin was completely shocked. Even though he had never been involved in the Houston's Clinic’s
operation, he knew how lucrative thia contract was.
Medical supplies were the most basic function of a clinic but it was at the same time the most
profitable.
Calvin scrolled down the contract. These several paged of paper meant there would be hundreds of
millions of profits for the Houston family.
“Miss Bentley, can I ask why you gave this contract to me?”
Actually, after Rita got jealous for a few times, Calvin as well had some thoughts about this. Was
Selena really into him?
It was absurd but Calvin kept thinking that way.
Selena took a step forward and looked at her coyly.
“Why? You don’t know why?”
Calvin was astonished and backed away.
Then he fell onto the couch and the contract scattered on the ground.
Seeing him having made a fool of himself, Selena burst into laughter.
“Hahaha, you really bought that? Get over yourself, I’m not into married men. To be honest, it’s just a
thank-you gift. You not only helped me save that old man, you also helped me make a fortune on the
acquisition of Chelston Healthcare. You don’t think I know that Paul fell into your trap? Mr. Small was
ashamed and this saved me twenty million dollars.”
“What? Twenty million dollars...”
Calvin looked at the contract on the floor and suddenly felt one million was nothing compared to this...
...
In the living room of the Houston family, Carrie looked at the contract and her hands were trembling.
“We really did it. Am I dreaming?”
Lewis knew his wife had been having a tough time for the clinic. Now that they had got this project, it
would be a lot easier for them.
“Carrie, it’s all on the contract. How could this be fake? There’s a red stamp on it, right?”
Carrie nodded, “I know, I’m just thrilled. Vincent is so capable. He even knows his way around Chelston
Healthcare. If we let Calvin do it, he couldn’t even make it to the front door.”
Vincent was gloating. He wanted to laugh out loud but he didn’t want to pull that sore muscle.
“Auntie, I don’t mean to brag about it but this negotiation really exhausted me. You can ask Rita about
this. There were piles of files about dozens of clinics and everyone’s eyes are on this project. It took me
a lot of efforts to impress Mr. Bradford and get this done.”
Carrie was grateful, “Vincent, thank you so much for this. Rest assured, I’m not a petty person. I owe
you one big favor this time.”
Vincent stood straight in a humble gesture, “Auntie, we’re family. I’m also the son-in-law of the Houston
family. Of course I’ll try my best to help when it comes to family matters. I can’t just let Rita do all the
work.”
Carrie sighed, “Hearing you said that, I feel kind of sad for myself. Calvin is also my son-in-law. How
can he be such a loser? What if Vincent...”
She got carried away and Rita hurriedly interrupted her.
“Mom, we should ask him to stay for lunch.”
“Yes. Speaking of which, where’s Calvin? That loser went out this morning for groceries. Where is he
now? He’s got his head over heels recently. Who does he think he is?”
Vincent snorted, “Auntie, you misunderstood him. He went to Chelston Healthcare today.”
“What? What was he there for? How could he help at all?”
Vincent pouted, “You’re right, he wasn’t being helpful and even sabotaged. Look at Rita’s hand. He hit
her.”
Carrie stood up and took Rita’s hand, only to find that her wrist was swollen.
“Rita, is that true?” Carrie asked gloomily.
Rita hid her hand behind, “Mom, he didn’t mean to do that.”
Vincent couldn’t let this opportunity slip away.
“Rita, how can you still defend him? Auntie, the thing is, you asked me for help and Calvin didn’t know
that. So the moment he saw me with her, he flipped out and threw a water bottle at her. Thank God he
only hit her wrist. If he hit her in the eyes...I couldn’t even imagine it.”
At this very moment, Calvin showed up at the door, “I’m back.”
