Not Again Mr Whitney

Chapter 6 The predicament.

Chapter 6 The predicament.

Regardless of the old man’s condition, Calvin hunched his back and lay on the ground.

Once a woman had gone mad, even the Master Malandra could do nothing about it.

Selena was a bit embarrassed. She once learned Taekwondo and she just kicked him very hard.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to do that.”

Calvin was in so much pain that he became sweaty and couldn’t talk. He just shook his hand.

And the doctors came up to check the old man’s condition and it turned out the old man was actually

awakened.

“Send him to the hospital.”

There was a huge chaos and nobody thought about Calvin until the ambulance had shipped the old

man to the hospital. Selena came to him in a hurry and threw a bag to him.

“I’m so sorry about that. I didn’t know you were saving his life. Are you okay down there?”

Calvin pretended to stay cool and strong but he was actually holding back the pain. And he said, “I’m

fine. It’s nothing.”

Selena forced herself to stop laughing and said, “Great. I just bought this and I want to give it to you as

a thank-you gift. Please accept it. I have to go to the hospital now. I’m terribly sorry but I can’t chat with

you right now.”

“Wait, I can’t take it.” Even though Calvin was a poor man, but Shirley raised him to be a warm-hearted

and helping person. He had got a strong sense of accomplishment by saving the old man’s life and he

just couldn’t accept this gift.

He wanted to get up and give it back to her. But the second he moved his body, he felt intolerable pain

in his junk.

Selena got into the race car and rolled down her window, grinning, “Go to the hospital and have

yourself checked. If something’s wrong, I’ll take the responsibility.”

After having a rest, Calvin felt much better and stumbled to the Houston’s.

By the time he got there, he saw the front gate was nicely decorated with ornaments and there parked

all kinds of luxury cars.

Calvin paused. All of a suddenly, he took out his cell phone and saw a notification on his broke screen.

Today was Rita’s grandma, Isabel Houston’s 88th birthday.

Holy cow, how could he forget all about that?

Calvin checked the time and the dinner hadn’t started yet. He still got the 2000 dollars refund from the

hospital and that might do.

As he was turning around, he heard a sweet but cold voice, “Why do you come here and not come in?”

Calvin’s body trembled a little and felt kind of helpless. And when he turned to her, he smiled to her

flatteringly, “Well, I think we’re running out of seasonings so I wanted to buy some more.”

Rita came out of the door. She was wearing a red tight shirt and a pair of cream-colored high-waisted

trousers, which showed her beautiful body shape perfectly.

Calvin swallowed out of thirst. They had been married for two years and Calvin always had the urge to

be intimate with her every time he met his nominal wife. But he didn’t dare to actually do anything to

her.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Hmm, did you forget what day it is? I reminded you half a month ago.”

Calvin squeezed the bag in his hand and said, “It’s grandma’s 88th birthday, the most significant day to

the Houstons this year. How could I forget that?”

Rita seemed a little less mean, “This is what you have prepared for her?”

Calvin didn’t want to accept Selena’s gift at all so he wanted to give it back to her when he had the

chance to see her again. So he hadn’t checked what was inside the bag.

To this point, he had to nod, “I don’t know what grandma would like so I picked one myself.”

“Let me see what it is.”

Calvin hid it behind his back, “Don’t ruin the surprise.”

Reader stared at Calvin and thought he wasn’t telling the truth, “We’ve got a lot of guests today and

none of them like you. You’d better not cause me any trouble today. My mom has just come back from

Oakshire and she’s in a very good mood. Don’t ruin this for everybody.”

Calvin was humiliated right in his face, but he still nodded.

“Okay, I’ll help out in the kitchen later.”

Calvin followed Rita in. The spacious living room was crowded with people

Calvin looked around and was overwhelmed

Those who hated him the most all came here today and right now they were eyeing him wickedly.

“Hey, isn’t this my brother-in-law? You are quite a busy man, making all of us wait for you.”

The person who sat there was Vincent, the husband of Rita’s sister.

He called Calvin a busy man on purpose because everybody knew Calvin was always busy in the

kitchen and was the most useless man in the Houston family.

Even though Rita hated Calvin, they were a couple now so she had to save his face in order to save

herself from embarrassment.

“Where is grandma? I want her to check out my present.”

Rita was holding a box which seemed very heavy.

“No wonder why Mrs. Hudson loves her granddaughter so much. Look at the present she prepared for

her. It’s so huge,” Calvin’s mother-in-law Carrie said, trying to make her own daughter look good.

Rita’s aunt snorted, “Just because the box is big doesn’t mean that the present is great. If that’s the

case, I’ll just need to bring a suitcase here.”

Carrie was offended and wanted to talk back to her. And then Calvin’s father-in-law, Lewis Houston,

stopped her and shook his head.

Vincent still didn’t want to let it slide easily for Calvin and said, “Calvin, have you prepared nothing for

today? Even though you are just a live-in son-in-law and everything you’ve ever used is from the

Houston family, you can’t be so cheap about your gift for Mrs. Houston, right?”

Everyone else looked at Calvin in disgust and said, “It’s her 88th birthday and it’s such a big day. How

dare he come here with empty hands?”

“After all, he’s just a live-in son-in-law. He doesn’t even get to eat at the table. Who cares if he doesn’t

bring any gift?”

“That’s not right. He is a completely useless person and he will stay that way forever.”

Calvin wanted to muddle through and he didn’t want to give Selena’s present to Mrs. Houston, which

was the reason why he had been hiding the bag behind his back.”

But now Vincent had been coming at him so he had to bring it out.

“I have prepared a gift.”

Vincent was stunned and he stood up instantly, “Wow, when did Mr. Grinch become so generous?

Open it and show it to us. Did Rita buy this for you?”

Rita snorted, “Leave me out of this. He prepared that himself.”

Hearing that, Vincent stepped forward, “Then I’ve really got to see what gift my useless brother-in-law

has prepared.”

Vincent was being absolutely rude and impolite. But none of those people thought this was wrong and

inappropriate, by which everyone could tell how poorly they thought of him.

Calvin wanted to avoid him but he was afraid that he might break the gift. As he was hesitating, Vincent

took the gift bag away.

Inside the bag was a little box. Vincent opened it and saw a little thing that looked like a walnut.

“What the hell is this?” Vincent took out the box and showed it to everybody with a wicked smile.

“Is this a walnut?”

“Calvin, are you serious? You’re gonna give her a walnut for her 88th birthday?”

“That walnut looks so dirty and nasty. Did you dig that up from a garbage bin?”

Vincent sniffed it and then covered his nose, “It’s stinky like garbage. Calvin, are you trying to give Mrs.

Houston a hard time?”

The other people also started pointing fingers at him, “I thought he was just a loser. Turns out he’s not

only useless but also mean and evil. If Mrs. Houston sees this, she’ll be pissed off.”

“Calvin, for you, it’s better not to give her anything. What was he thinking? He really thought we are not

gonna check out his gift?”

“Ay, poor Rita. Why would such a pretty girl end up with him?”

And now Calvin was overwhelmed by their accusations...

All of a sudden, Carrie came at him and slapped him in the face. She scorned, “You slum dog, get out

of my house! I don’t know why I could let my daughter marry you. Wait for it. I’ll deal with you after the

dinner.”

Calvin felt wronged and he couldn’t believe that Selena would give him a walnut as a thank-you gift.

What hurt him the most was the way Rita looked at him. Her eyes were cold and filled with

disappointment. It looked like if she had a chance to slap him in the face, she would do it.

Vincent tossed the box to Calvin and taunted, “Take your Goddamn walnut and take a hike.”

The walnut fell on the ground and cracked. It seemed like it was broken.

Calvin reached for it. But the second he touched the walnut, he had all the information about it in his

mind.
