Chapter 668
“Don’t mention it, Lucas replied in a calm voice. Since it’s a wish of yours, I’d gladly help you
“You’re so nice to me, Lake.” NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
Lucas’s heart trembled when he heard that nickname. For whatever reason, hearing it from the lips of this woman somehow Irritated him.
“Just call me Lucas next time,” he told her. “Lake is just a nickname I had when I was young”
“Okay,” Lynette responded without raising any questions
After all, she had only heard the name “Luke” from Serenity all those years ago. Back then, when she was still a little girl, Serenity had returned home with her dress all tattered and dirty. She had claimed that she had saved someone, but no adults at home believed her. They all just assumed that she was lying to cover up her own naughtiness, and she had even been spanked for it.
As for Lynette, because she still had a child’s curiosity, she had asked Serenity exactly what had happened to her. That was when she had found out how Serenity had saved a little boy, and she had even heard Serenity call that boy Luke.
Had she not done that, she would not have been able to claim herself as the girl Lucas had been looking for so convincingly. But what was even more crucial was the fact that back then, Serenity had had a high fever after she had come home, and the fever was so severe that the doctors in the small town had no resources to treat it, so she had to be transferred to the general hospital in Solaria. Once she was healed, Serenity had then lost all memories of what had happened that day.
Back then, nobody thought much of her memory loss since it was only the memory of one single day. The adults deemed it too insignificant to pay any attention to, and Serenity herself never even knew
that she had lost a day’s memory. In fact, even Lynette only found out about it when she overheard the adults mention it when she was young.
Hence, apart from Serenity and the boy himself, the only other person who knew what had happened that day was Lynette.
It was clearly a gift from the heavens–God had given her a golden opportunity!
‘And as for Serenity,” Lynette thought silently, ‘let’s hope that she never regains that memory!‘
Lisa had asked Serenity out so they could meet up, and when they met, Lisa asked, “Is your grandma’s funeral over now?”
“Yeah,” Serenity nodded.
“Did you meet your father, then?”
Serenity shook her head. Her grandma was her niother’s mom, so naturally, her father would find no reason to attend her funeral. Then again, no one could contact her father anyway because ever since her father and stepmother had left Solaria, it seemed that they had simply vanished from the face of the earth, and no one knew where they went.
Still, Serenity knew that if she really wanted to find out, all she had to do was ask Jack
Nevertheless, she had absolutely no desire to know anything about them because her father, her stepmother, and Aria Lewis were all strangers to her now. She had long disregarded them as her family.
From now on, perhaps the only family she had was jack
Lisa then had nothing else to say about her friend’s father, so she asked, “Are you going to be in mourning now that your grandma has passed away?”
If she was in mourning, she would not be able to marry for a certain period of time.
“Yeah,” Serenity replied, “I will be.”
Although she was only related to her grandma through her mother, which meant that traditionally she would be regarded as an “outsider” since she had a different surname, she had never regarded her grandma as an “outsider” at all. Therefore, she was naturally determined to be in mourning after her grandmother’s death.
“How long will you be in mourning? Lisa asked.
“About a year.”
