Chapter 9
Audrey's POV
I followed the source of the voice and felt a tremor run through me when I saw where it was coming from. Linda's group. A petite Omega wit curly blonde hair was raising her fanel and offering me a warm unile ourse, was to tell her no, she was Linda's friend after all, and couldnt be muted.
My last instinct, of course, was to
But then I saw how Linda's expression turned into one of seething rage, and how Linda fared her teeth at the girl.
A low grost rumbled in Lindy's throat, causing the girl to flinch. Only then did I realize that it had been a genuine offer
"You"I paused, shooting Edwin-who looked mostly uninterested at this point-a berused glance. "You want to join me
The girl, seemingly having recovered her courage, added hastily and walked over in me with a few quick steps. She held one delicate hand out for

"My name is Avis," she said. "Td like to get a studios with you."
For the longest moment, I felt as if I was walking in some sort of lurane dream Linda bridled study behind the girl, the other two girls in her group practically holding her back. Meanwhile, Avis simply continued to smile arme with her hand still nut.
"A-Avis," I said. "What makes you want to work witha

She says horrible things, steals my designs, and blackmails me into not saying anything"
"So you came to me as your second chance." Imused.
Avis shrugged again and shifted her textbooks in her arms. "You need a studio. I also need a studin. So if you'll have

that stretched across my face, although I couldn't quite decide whether it was excitement over having a studio partner or some kind of sick glee over seeing Linda throw her hair over her shoulder and pretend that she wasn't injured..
"Sure," I said. "That would be good. Thanks
"Well then," a voice said from behind me I turned to see the desk worker impatiently sliding two
room keys across the table with an annoyed look on his face. "If your little moment is over. Kindly stop holding up the line."
Avis and I took our keys quickly, stepping off to the side so that the
nest person in line could move forward. Without thinking. I pulled Avis into a tight hug. She stiffened at first, but quickly relaxed. Her shampoo smelled like lavender.
"Thank you so much for this," I said, holding up my key. "I promise there won't be any drama. Just Lashion"
Wispegled and tucked one of her stray curls behind her ear. "That sounds perfect. So, um.. I'll see you soon?"
Inodded. "See you soon."
I watched Avis go, and at was only then that I noticed Edwin's presence still beside me. He seemed to be focusing on the contents of a folder, but something told me that he had been listening in. Tuming to him, I adjusted my satchel on my shoulder. "Thanks" I said. "For that,"
Edwis didn't even bother to look up from his folder. "Why are you thanking me??"
Hfurrowed my brow. "Because you just helped me secure a studio. And because you offered to give me one if no one would be my studio partner
For a moment, I thought I saw his shoulders tense ever so slightly. He snapped the folder shut and shrugged, striding past me and out the hallway. I followed closely-

cold, so I persisted.
I paused for a moment, momentarily put off by his coldness. But I was just as stubborn as he was cold, so
"You know, you changed my view of you back there. I thought you were just like all of the other werewolves who see humans as lesser; it seems as though I was mistaken.
Suddenly, Edwin stopped in his tracks and whirled around to face me. I stopped so short that I nearly barrelled into his sturdy chest, that familiar musky cologne of his almost dizzying from this close. "Don't flatter yourself," he said, placing a hand on my shoulder-
firm, although not rough. "You're not special. I didn't help you because of favoritism; 1 only helped you because that guy was breaking the rules. Are we clear?"
I felt myself bristle at his lack of compassion, but didn't bother retorting this time. He dropped his hand and began to walk away,
"Wait! Professor Brooks!" a shrill voice suddenly called out, causing us both to turn to see Linda running our way with a sheet of paper in her hands.
"What is it, Mis?"
"O'Malley," Linda explained almost breathlessly, shoving the paper practically under Edwin's nose. "Please. I need your help.
"What's this?" Edwin gingerly took the paper as though it were laced with poison and inspected it for a moment before shoving the paper back. "Whatever it is, my answer is 'no","
Linda's face turned bright red in a matter of an instant. "But it's her fault" she cried, pointing her finger at me before turning on me. "Because of you, I lost all of my studio partner prospects. I can't get a studio." I couldn't help but laugh. "You mean your other friends walked out, too"
Linda merely huffed, tossing her hair over her shoulder and turning back to Edwin. "Please, Mr. Brooks; I just need a signature to get a studio. If you can just vouch for me
"I said, no" Edwin shrugged nonchalantly and stuck his hands in his pockets, "And maybe consider dropping out with those grades"
I nearly burst out laughing at the sight of Linda fuming, but managed to hold it in. Only once she had stormed off did I finally let it out
Edwin's POV
Audrey giggled beside me as we watched that other student skulk away, causing me to inadvertently glance over at her. Instantly, and rather unexpectedly, I felt my cheeks redden and my heart do a flip just at t Goddess, she was cute. There was no denying thar.
But nothing could happen between us anymore-for multiple reasons. No matter how much a part of me secretly wanted to see her smile more often.
"Edwin."
The sound of Audrey's voice pulled me out of my reverie. I blinked and quickly looked away, not having realized that I had been staring at her that whole time. "What?" I grumbled.
Audrey planted a hand on her hip and tilted her chin up at me, causing a lock of her dark hair to cascade down her shoulder. "You're always staring at me; you even stared at me all through class yesterday. Why I opened my
mouth to bite out a blistering retort, but the words died before they even reached my lips. As soon as I saw those big blue eyes staring at me, I just couldn't. I should have said anything to make her hate me just Instead, I checked my watch. Tve got to go. Don't forget about grading those quizzes,"
With that, I turned on my heel and walked away before she could even utter a word. All the while. I felt my wolf pace restlessly inside of me,
He wanted nothing more than to kiss her lately.
