Chapter 1298 Too Many Bad Deeds, Retribution Comes
She grabbed Ann and yanked the scarf off her neck.
Ann had a rough night and overslept this morning. She had stayed over at that guy's place and completely forgot to set an alarm. By the time she got the call that Connie was causing a scene at the office, it was already too late.
The marks on her neck were instantly exposed. Connie even pulled down her shirt to make sure everyone could see them clearly.
"Look at this! This tramp didn't come to work because she was with another guy. Who knows how many guys she's been with? These marks are from those random dudes. It's disgusting! I couldn't take it anymore, so I came to the office to report her. Look at her! Working with someone like this, aren't you afraid of catching something?" Connie
called out.
"Mom!"
Ann was feeling unwell, having just started her period that morning. She was weak and tried to pull her shirt back up, but Connie slapped her.
Connie used to work in manual labor and had a strong hand. Ann, already in poor health, couldn't dodge it.
The people on the top floor saw the marks and their expressions changed.
Everyone started to believe Connie's words. Otherwise, where did those marks come from?
But no one had heard about Ann having a boyfriend. Just a few days ago, when a male colleague from the top floor pursued her, she said she was single.
Yet, with so many marks on her body, it was clear she had a wild night.
Ann usually acted so reserved, but the contrast was shocking.
People started whispering among themselves. Selena, who couldn't see, had no idea what was happening. She only heard Connie slapping Ann.
She leaned back slightly against Raymond and quietly asked, "What's going on?"
Why did everyone on the top floor suddenly start whispering, and why was Ann the subject of their gossip? Did Ann really do something like that?
Impossible!
"She has marks from sleeping with a man."
Raymond answered bluntly, while Connie continued her tirade.
Calling her all sorts of vile names.
"Shut up!" Selena shouted. She was furious and then called for security.
Connie became even more smug, especially with Ann present. She knew Ann would side with her.
"Ann, tell your boss I'm telling the truth. I'm your mother, after all. Are you really going to have security throw me out? Don't ever call me or send me money again. Never come home."
Ann was a woman with no one to rely on. The monthly phone call and the money she sent were her only connections to the world. It was her lifeline.
Just like Selena thought of Barbara to get through tough times, Ann relied on that phone call to keep going.

She didn't care how much Connie hated her. As long as she sent money every month, Connie would be somewhat kind when she answered the phone.
She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't resist the pull of family.
She must have some psychological issues.
Selena didn't hear Ann's voice and was puzzled. After being accused like that, was Ann really not going to respond?noveldrama
"Ann?" Selena spoke up.
As soon as she spoke, she heard Ann's choked voice, "Ms. Fair, my mom and I have a misunderstanding. I'll take her away and come back to hand over my work."
"You're quitting?"
"I... I don't know."
Ann's eyes showed confusion. She really didn't know.
Without that phone call, she didn't know where she would go or how she would live. She just felt so tired.
Selena reached out, trying to grab her hand.

The people on the top floor finally noticed something was wrong with her eyes.
"Ms. Fair, what's wrong with your eyes?"
"Ms. Fair, are you okay?"
"Are you blind? When will you recover? Ms. Fair, don't scare us."
Everyone stopped focusing on Ann's gossip and started worrying about Selena's health.
Selena had founded the company herself, and everyone on the top floor admired her. Now their hearts were in their throats.
"I'm fine. Don't worry. Ann, come to my office and explain everything," Selena said.
After saying that, she took Raymond's hand. "Raymond, have someone restrain Ann's mom. If she dares to curse again, find any reason to lock her man up for ten days or so."
Connie's pupils shrank. She knew Ann's weak spot, but now it seemed Ann's boss knew hers.
Connie's face turned ugly. She wanted to argue but didn't dare after meeting Raymond's gaze. She just muttered.
"You're finally paying for all your wickedness, you blind witch!" Connie exclaimed.
But Selena, already being led into the office by Ann, didn't hear this.
She didn't hear it, but Raymond did.
What do you think?
