Chapter 213: Persuasion
Drystan's POV
I willed myself together as I stared at Astrid, who was standing in front of me.
"What is it?" Astrid breathed out in a whisper, wondering why I asked her to talk to me in private.
I swallowed hard as my mind went blank. All the things that I wanted to tell her, all the questions that I was hoping to ask her, had fully vanished from my mind.
I could only stare at her, not even remembering why I had called her out here.
"H-How are you?" I asked her the first question that came to mind.
I instantly felt embarrassed. I felt like I had just asked her the most stupid question I could possibly ask.
"I'm fine, but I don't feel excited as I ought to be," Astrid answered without judging the awkward mess that I was.
I watched as Astrid tilted her head to the side, her eyes deepening in thought.
The corners of my lips lifted in a small smile when I saw her falling into her usual mannerisms. Ever since I met Astrid, she has always been like this. When I ask her a question, she sometimes thinks deeply, and for some reason, I like watching her ponder something. "Why did you come here? What do you want to say?" Astrid suddenly lifted her chin up and asked.
I abruptly opened my mouth in surprise when Astrid suddenly pulled out from her thoughts and asked me a question.
I was intently observing her while she was deep in her own thoughts when she suddenly stared into my eyes and asked me a question. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
My mouth bobbed up and down without a sound coming out. I tried to remember the words I practiced and memorized on my way here.
I even wrote a script to avoid this moment of being unable to say anything, but in the end, the scenario that I was trying to avoid still happened.
All I could think of was the reason why I visited Astrid tonight and pulled her out of here before her ceremony tomorrow.
I was hoping that if I were able to say the right words, Astrid could still change her mind and choose to live with me in the Nightsong Pack.
I wrote a script, I memorized the words, and I was ready to win her, but all those things flew out of my mind the moment I was here standing in front of her.
"Astrid," I began in a small voice as I thought of my words carefully. "Are you really sure about tomorrow?"
My question was nowhere in any of the scripts I wrote and the plans that I made.
Last time, when Astrid first brought up this matter, I told her that I would fully support her in whatever she wanted. I even told her that I was
willing to help her with anything that
she needed help with.
I promised her that I'd wait for a lifetime for her, and whatever she decides along the way, she can always expect to have me behind her back.
However, I now regretted saying those words. Not because they weren't true, but because while I was being true to her, I wasn't being honest with myself.
I'm angry at myself for choosing to be a martyr, for choosing to get hurt instead of fighting to have her.
I should have reminded her of her promise. I should have told her that I had waited for her for three years, and she couldn't make me wait another year without something to hold on to.
I came to her tonight because I'm hoping she could still change her mind.
"I've told you already, Drystan. I can't just forget my son. I can't just let them live happily while I'm still alive," Astrid answered with firmness in her voice.
"What's your plan?" I asked her. "There are many ways to have your revenge without having to do this."
"I need this power and influence, Drystan. In order to pull my revenge, Giselle and Killian have to realize that I'm someone they can't afford to mess with."
"What exactly are you planning to do, Astrid? I know you don't want to be related to your father in any way, yet you are willing to make this sacrifice," I prodded with my brows creased together.
Astrid lowered her head, unable to look at me. "Tell me Astrid. Is there anything I could do so you won't have to do this?" I asked her, hoping that she would let me help.
"A tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye. Everything that Giselle took from me, I would take back one by one in the same way she took everything from me," Astrid answered in a cold voice.
My eyes widened. "Y-You'll-," I stammered, I couldn't even finish my sentence.
Giselle seduced her husband. That's how she stole everything from her. If she's going to do things the same way Giselle did, then...
"Astrid, this is dangerous. You're playing with fire. What if you hurt yourself again?" I warned her.
"I've learned my lesson, Drystan. I promise you, I won't get hurt this time," Astrid answered confidently.
"And what if Killian took the bait? What if you successfully won his heart and decided to get back with you again. What then?" I asked her.
The corner of Astrid's lips lifted into
a cold smile. Then I'll crush his
heart the same way he did mine. Not only that, but I'll also take the only special thing he has, the same person that he took from me."
