Chapter 79
Hayden is a shadow wolf, the real deal.
The moment those words left Hayden’s lips, Elise felt like she had finally found something, in her heart that she had been searching for.
Something had called to her ever since she read that book not long before. “You are a shadow wolf, and this is the Calhan pack?” she asked, her eyes lighting up with curiosity. “I thought its people were all assassinated during the war 20 years ago, she muttered
A tense silence followed. Hayden tried to read her intentions as he watched her carefully, Hayden’s walls immediately closed up the minute she asked questions about his home. His eyes grew cold as he studied her, wondering why she was so intrigued by the shadow wolves.
“Why don’t you change out of the hospital gown, and I might answer your questions?” he called, handing her a beige sweater top and pants. She looked at the clothes and went back to
him.
“And why do I need to change clothes?” she snarled at Hayden, whose lips tilted sideways in

“Not to alarm you, but those hospital gowns have nothing at the back, and I could say my dick was feeling a very, very soft ass when you attacked and sat on me earlier,” he said with a smirk and a playful tone, scratching his nape awkwardly.
A blush of embarr flooded her face invanger as she cringed back before grabbing the clothes. Elise looked at him, still mystified that he could bring up such vulgar words right when she was asking about a crucial matter about his pack.
She recalled the words from her father about the Calhan tribe, and she had always wondered why she was drawn to the idea of shadow wolves ever since she saw that name in Kaide’s book.
“Clothes, then we talk,” he said curtly before she backed away from him. “Make haste, Angel,” he teased, showing that side of himself to make him seem less powerful, but his alpha pheromones were strong, she knew she couldn’t underestimate his strength.
“Prick” she muttered. But the moment she walked into the enclosed bathroom, Hayden’s face hardened. He wanted to protect his people and peace, and he knew his decision to bring her here was his fault, and needed to know who the truly was or if she just compromised the safety of the whole pack.
Elise came back dressed, with the hospital gown how thrown on the bed. The beige tunic and

dark brown pants were a size too big for her, but for now, it would make sense given what she had been given.
Why do you want to know about this pack, and how do you even know about our pack?” he asked.
“Because I heard it from the chief of my former pack; he told me,” she said with a pang of quiet guilt as she recalled the situation when she heard the name. The day her mother died because of her birth.
“And who is your chief?”
“His name is Dexton Alderman, from the-
“The Silver Night pack,” he completed her sentence in a whisper. Elise’s eyes immediately. glazed with confusion and surprise; she could see a flurry of wrath burning in his eyes.
“How do you know that name?” she muttered.
Hayden wasn’t happy at all; more like his eyes creased with a dark shadow. That very name had caused doom and so much destruction in this pack. Hayden was about to ask more when the door barged open.
-So she is from the Silver Night pack?” Another male voice boomed, making Hayden grit his teeth in annoyance. This was the last person he wanted to know about the situation–his brother Holden.
“Holden,” Hayden started.
“You saved an outsider, brother, and not just any outsider; you saved a wolf from the Silverlight, a spy? We need to kill her because we know she is a spy!” he growled with an accusatory tone at her.
Elise didn’t stand for Holden’s threat; she hissed and snarled at him. The male’s eyes grew wide with anger at a mere female’s disrespect. “You dare growl; look at me; do you know who I am?” Holden roared.
“Easy, brother!” Hayden said. “She isn’t dangerous!” Hayden argued, stopping his brother from lunging for Elise.
“And how do you know that? Or are you so intrigued by seeing an exotic, strange woman that you decide to try to get into her pants while you act like a savior?”
“That’s enough; I saved her because she was getting attacked by those humans, and she made it to our island,” Hayden explained.
“That’s impossible: no normal wolf can pass our barriers; she must be a hybrid witch or something, wait till the king hears about this,” Holden said, and Elise had enough as she stepped from behind Hayden.
“Stop talking down on me like I’m your subject. I’m right here. Look, as much as I’m thankful that you helped me, I did not beg to stay here; you just want answers that I’ve been looking for, answers that I believe that I can get from here.
Meanwhile, Hayden watched in awe of her and how much she didn’t flinch back from Holden’s threat; he couldn’t help wondering what she’d been through to be so bold and daring. Even as Holden pushed his pheromones on her, she didn’t flinch back.
“What answers do you seek?”
“I need to talk with your king.” she said to them. Holden gaped at Elise and then at his brother, like she had grown a second head.
“A daring one, isn’t she? No normal person can talk with our king, and do you think I’ll let you? For all I know, you’re an assassin sent to kill him,” Holden snarled, longing again to attack, and this time Hayden slammed him against the wall.
“I said to be calm; we do not know why she wants to ask for it, and she looks desperate. She has a heart.”
“Might I remind you that having a heart is what brought us to this island? She needs you to tell us how she entered through our barriers,” Holden said to his twin.
“I have no idea what you are talking about; I just want to ask him if he knows anything about Malia Alderman,” she said, and both brothers stiffened; even Holden froze in place as they turned to her.
Abby, who had remained behind the door through the whole ordeal, finally stepped in, her face filled with emotion and something deep in her gaze as she looked at Elise.
“Why do you want to know about her?” Holden cut in.
“Because Malia Alderman is my mother, and she had me with a Calhan wolf,” she told them. There was a silence that grew, an icing tension as Elise watched their gaze become cautious. “You were raised by Dexton. You are his daughter?” Hayden whispered with a deadly tone.
“That monster is not my father! That vile man rejected me and killed my mother for having me; he destroyed my life. So I’m here to find my true origin, and I’m here to find my father. My real one.”
“You are truly Malia’s daughter?” Abby’s voice cut through, her eyes glazed with tears, and Elise knew that there was something they all knew but weren’t telling her.
But she was going to find out, no matter what.
