Chapter 43
Anderson was very supportive of Mayra and never asked her to save money.
"Without Gordon, there will be another boy. Andy, when did you become so selfish? I don't want to talk to you anymore!"
She ate her chowder from the bowl unhappily. It was sweet, but wasn't as good as Gordon's. He was too good at cooking in her previous life, which made her picky.
"I overheard your angry voice, Mayra. What's wrong? Did Andy bully you?"
When Mayra heard the familiar and gentle voice, she looked over. It was Isabel. She quickly stood up and greeted her. "Hello, Isa..." She was unreasonably nervous whenever she saw Isabel.
Anderson asked, "Weren't you in the hospital? What brings you here?"
Hospital? How did Isabel end up in hospital? The waiter immediately placed a set of cutlery next to Anderson. Isabel sat down next to him.
Mayra noticed that Isabel's face was sickly pale, and the bruise on the back of her hand from the IV drip hadn't gone away. Her tender hands appeared soft.
"I called Shane and found out that you were here to celebrate Mayra's birthday. It happened that I felt better. As Mayra's future sister-in-law, I shouldn't be absent. Mayra, I've prepared a gift for you. I hope you like it."
Isabel took out an exquisite, small, red, velvet box from her handbag and placed it in front of Mayra. She then opened it, revealing a pink brooch. "I bid on this brooch at a recent charity gala. I thought this color and style would suit you well."
Mayra remembered that this brooch was from a collection of medieval brooches. There was only one such brooch in the world. It was incredibly valuable and priceless. She thought Isabel was crazy for giving her this.
She glanced at Anderson. He didn't appear to be involved. So, she feigned being clueless and innocently responded, "Isa, no wonder you're so matched to Andy. You both chose the gifts with the same preferences." Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
She took out the pink key bracelet he had given her and placed it next to the pink brooch. "Don't you think I'm right, Isa?"
Isabel showed tenderness. When she looked at Anderson beside her, she smiled deeply with a trace of shyness before looking at Mayra.
"I felt a little uncomfortable last night, so Andy took me to the hospital. It's too bad I got sick, or I would have celebrated your birthday with you. If you don't mind, Andy and I want to make you a meal tonight to make up for it."
Mayra was surprised, but she knew Isabel was only being nice to her because of Anderson. Isabel wouldn't associate with someone like her if she had nothing to do with him.
She was aware of her status and knew how to retreat. "I—"
Anderson interrupted her just as she was about to reply, asking, "Do you want to come?"
Mayra intended to reject it. Just then, Isabel stood up and smiled warmly. She sat next to Mayra, holding Mayra's hand under the table.
She immediately understood what Isabel meant, so she changed her mind. "I hope I won't cause you any trouble."
"We're delighted to welcome you. I can introduce you to Yve as well. You both are about the same age. I'm sure you can get along with her!"
Yve? Did she mean Yvette Xander?
