Chapter 236 Surprised
Chapter 236 Surprised
"What are you so surprised about?" The doctor's voice sounded, "Clean the children up as soon as
possible."
The cries of the two children rang in the emergency room, and Marie was relieved to hear that. She
turned her gaze to Edric, only to see him putting his hand on Irene's waist with a strange smile on his
face.
On the other hands, Irene's expression was not full of anger or jealousy either. Instead, she was
smiling. Marie sneered in her heart, as she did not believe that Irene was truly happy about it.
The door of the emergency room opened, and two nurses came out with a child all wrapped up in each
of their arms. When Marie saw the nurse approaching, she smiled sinisterly. She then looked to Edric
and raised her voice, "Edric, come and see your children!"
Marie's voice was so loud that the reporters and medical staff around could hear it clearly. As soon as
Marie's voice fell, the reporters who were waiting directed their cameras at the child in the nurse's
hands and at Edric. That was what Marie wanted. She wanted everyone to know that Lily's child was
Edric's and she wanted to force Edric to take responsibility.
Nevertheless, Edric did not move. He looked at Marie with a smile and said, "How do you know they're
my children, Dr. Walker?"
"Of course they are. Lily is your fiancée. Whose children is she pregnant with if not yours?" Marie
retorted.
"You're wrong, she's my ex-fiancée. The engagement between the two of us has long since been
annulled," Edric said.
"Although you and Lily broke off the engagement, Lily only got into a relationship with you. Who else
can this child belong to?" Marie asked.
"You can't be so sure!" Edric was still smiling. He reached out and touched Irene's belly, "I only have
one woman in my heart, and she's the only one who's qualified to give birth to my child."
"It's no use denying it. Now that the children are already born, what are you going to do with them?"
Marie said aggressively.
"What am I going to do with them? What do you mean by that?" Edric sneered, "Everyone still doesn't
know why I had broken off my engagement with Lily, right? Today, I'll take this opportunity to make it
clear to everyone that Lily and I broke off the engagement because Lily had fallen in love with another
man. That was why I broke off the engagement with her."
"You're lying!" Marie retorted.
"You will know soon whether I am lying or not. Nurses, let the two babies in your hands say hello to the
media!" The nurses followed his words and held the children in their arms to face the cameras. Edric
also kindly reminded, "They both are newborn babies. Don't turn on the flash, and just a few pictures
will do!"
When the nurses held the children to face the media, Marie also got to have a good look at the babies
in the nurses' hands. It turned out that both the babies' puplis were green. Marie was so surprised that
she took a step back.
Irene was also taken aback. She only knew that Lily's child was not Edric's and thought that Edric
would need to do a DNA test to confirm the truth and whatnot, but she did not expect that Lily would
give birth to such a foreign child. Even a fool would know that the children weren't Edric's.
"What's the meaning of this?" Marie shouted at the nurse.
"They're the pair of twins that Miss Cook just gave birth to!" The nurse replied, "Although the two
children are premature, they are very healthy. Both of them weigh more than 4 pounds too!"
Edric looked at Marie, who was at a loss, "Dr. Walker, do you still dare to say that these two children
are mine?"
"Impossible! This is absolutely impossible!" Marie's face was pale white. She looked at Edric who was
sneering, "All of this is your fault, isn't it? It is your doing, isn't it?"
"It's my doing? Dr. Walker, are you crazy?" Edric pointed to the children in the nurses' hand and
sneered, "Are you suspecting that the children have been swapped out? That's obviously impossible,
right? Everyone was guarding at the doors, and the emergency room doesn't have a back door either.
The real reason behind this is that Lily had fallen in love with a foreign man and was pregnant with his
baby."
He then turned to the media with a smile, "Everyone, that is all. You all can leave now!" The media
immediately dispersed after they took plenty of photos of such exciting news.
Marie collapsed onto a chair. Edric held Irene's waist and said, "Irene, the show is over. It's time for us
to leave too!"
Irene nodded and left with Edric. When Edric passed by Marie with his arms around Irene's waist, he
paused for a moment and said, "Marie, aren't you going to inform Deborah about Lily giving birth?"
Edric's words surprised Marie. How did he know that Deborah was not dead? Before she could come
out with an explanation, the doctor's urgent voice came from the emergency room, "Hurry up, the
woman who's recuperating after birth is bleeding! Quick, do a blood transfusion!"
Marie was worried about Lily's safety, so she impulsively rushed into the operating room. Edric glanced
at Simon, who was standing at one side. Simon never dreamed that things would be escalate so much.
Seeing that Edric was looking at him, he took a step back. Edric then snorted and said, "Remember to
tell Deborah what happened here!"
After saying that, he left with Irene.
When Marie rushed into the operating room, she saw that the surgeon was trying to stop Lily's
bleeding, "How is it?"
"I'm giving her a quick blood transfusion, but I can't control the blood from flowing out," the surgeon
replied.
"Let me do it!" Marie was really anxious right then. She could not care less anymore, so she put on her
gloves and rushed forwards to help. She asked the surgeon and the nurse to massage Lily's uterus,
and inject oxytocin and hemostatic drugs to stop her bleeding. However, in the end, she was still
bleeding, and the blood was even more than before.
If they could not stop a new mother bleeding, the best way to stop it was to cut out her uterus to protect
her life. Marie did not want Lily to lose her uterus, so she decided to use a safer method first to try to
preserve it first. However, with that method of treatment, Lily's uterus was still too weak when
contracting. It was particularly weak at the bottom section, and her blood was not clotting at a critical
rate. If a uterus' contraction was too weak, it meant that the bleeding could not be controlled.
Seeing that Lily's blood loss was still increasing, the leading surgeon became anxious. She reminded
Marie, "Dr. Walker, the woman has already lost nearly 5000ml of blood, and we still have no way to
control it. We have to find a way quickly."
By that time, only by cutting off the source of bleeding could they control the bleeding. The leading
surgeon's intention was to remind Marie to cut off Lily's uterus to protect her life.
Right then, Marie had no choice anymore, and she could only choose to cut off Lily's uterus. Lily's
uterus was soon cut off. After the uterus was cut off, she no longer bled. The whole rescue process
lasted an entire night.
Lily was pushed out of the operating room, safe and sound. Marie was also exhausted. It was already
dawn. The nurse persuaded her to go back to rest, but Marie was worried about Lily, so she did not go
home, but rested in the hospital's duty room.
Marie ordered the nurses who were in charge of taking care of Lily to inform her if any special
circumstances arose.
Marie was too tired. She soon fell asleep on the bed in the duty room. Then, she was woken up by an
ear-splitting scream. She opened her eyes at once, and the door was pushed open. One of the nurses
who was in charge of taking care of Lily rushed in, "Miss Cook is in a state of incredible emotional
distress. Dr. Walker, please go and have a look!"
Marie sat up in a hurry and followed the nurse to Lily's ward. Lily was sitting on the bed with disheveled
hair while she screamed, "What is the meaning of this? Impossible! There has to be a mistake! These
are not my children! Call your superior. Someone must have replaced my children!"
Her shrill screams made the babies in the nurse's arms cry. The nurse who was holding the baby, was
also frightened and at loss upon seeing Lily's state. Another nurse tried to persuade her, "Miss Cook,
they are your children. Everyone can prove it, including Dr. Walker!"
"No! It's impossible! I was pregnant with Edric's child, so how can the children have green eyes? There
must be a mistake!" Lily shouted.
Marie entered the ward. Upon seeing the emotional Lily and the children in the nurses' arms, her face
fell, "Who asked you to bring the children here?"
"Miss Cook wanted to have a look at her children when she woke up. There's no reason for us not to let
the children's mother see her own children, right?" one of the nurses answered innocently.
"Madam Walker, you came just in time. My child has been swapped out by someone else. Get
someone to help me find them right now. I must get my children back!" Lily cried.
Seeing Lily's expression, Marie waved to the nurses to take the children out and said, "Lily, calm down.
Your health is the most important thing."
"My poor children! My children have been swapped out by someone else!" Lily held Marie's hand while
her body trembled, "Madam Walker, I beg you. Please call my mother and tell her to come to the
hospital to see me and help me get my children back!"
"Okay! However, you have to calm down first! I'll go to your mother right away, calm down," Marie gave
the nurses a look and hinted at them to give Lily a sedative. After the nurse gave Lily the sedative, she
fell asleep.
Marie was distraught. Although she got to save Lily's life, she had forgotten all about the children. The
children were a huge problem. The sperm that Margaret handed to her was Edric's. She had even
personally sent it to the sperm bank to store it. She was the one who had taken it out to artificially Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
inseminate Lily. It was impossible for any mistakes to happen during the process, but how did the
children turn out to be green-eyed in the end? What the hell was going on?
Lily had given birth to babies, but they weren't Edirc's. So trying to let Edric take responsibility was only
a dream now. What should she do about the situation as of the moment? It seemed that it was better to
inform Deborah to let her know the situation first.
Edric sent Irene home, and coincidentally, Kinsey had also come back from work. She was surprised to
see Irene and Edric returning together and she asked, "Why are you two together now?"
"We're about to end it. There's no need to put on a show anymore," Edric replied.
"End it? What are you going to end?" Kinsey was puzzled.
Irene told Kensey about the matter of her and Edric putting on an act to go against Marie and Loraine
and others. Hearing that Lily gave birth to two green-eyed babies in the hospital that day, Kinsey
laughed, "You two really are too smart. I really am curious as to how Lily is going to react when she
sees her children."
"I don't know how her exact reaction is going to be, but she'll probably go crazy!" Edric replied.
"You two are too devious. You knew that Lily had been pregnant with foreign babies, but you didn't tell
me. I've been anxious this whole time for nothing. I was also worried that Lily might cause trouble after
giving birth to her children," Kinsey was not satisfied.
"Actually, we weren't entirely sure about it too," Edric replied, "I found out that the children in Lily's belly
weren't mine after doing a DNA test, and I told Irene about it, but Irene didn't know that the children
were green-eyed. I only found out about it a few days ago too."
