Revenge is best served cold

Chapter 286 Stirring the Pot

After browsing the stores for a while, I managed to find a few good pieces. Just then, my phone buzzed with an incoming message. I checked and noticed it was from Eric. He was working late and said he could pick me up on his way home.

I sent him my location and went to wait for him at a café downstairs. Unfortunately, the moment I sat down, Elsa popped up out of nowhere.noveldrama

I frowned at her innocent-looking face. Suppressing my irritation, I asked, "Why are you here again?"

Elsa smiled sweetly. "I could ask you the same thing, Jane. I'm here waiting for Jeremiah, and what a coincidence, I ran into you. Are you waiting for Eric?"

I sipped my coffee casually. "So what if I am?"

Hearing this, a look of jealousy flashed across her face. She gritted her teeth and muttered, "Eric sure treats you well."

I gave her a sideward glance, then smiled. "Well, he's definitely better than Jeremiah. Eric and Jeremiah are like night and day."

I turned to look at her and continued, "But praising him in front of me is pointless. He can't hear you, after all. I suggest you stop talking about him. Otherwise, I'd start to think that you're crushing on Eric, your brother-in-law."

As I said that, I raised my voice slightly, just enough for the surrounding customers to hear. Almost immediately, people started whispering and glancing over.

Elsa's expression froze. She frantically waved her hands, her face turning red. "Jane, don't misunderstand! I just... I just meant I admire the way Eric treats you! I think you're really lucky to have such a great man. That's all!"

As she spoke, I caught sight of a familiar figure approaching behind her.

With a smile, I asked, "Oh? So you're saying Jeremiah isn't as good as Eric? But didn't you take Jeremiah from me? You were pretty happy about it back then."

Elsa's eyes narrowed nervously. She frantically glanced around before grabbing her purse to leave. However, it was too late. The moment she turned, she bumped straight into the man standing behind her.

"J-Jeremiah..." Her face turned pale in an instant.

She forced a smile and asked, "When did you get back? I thought you'd be in the restroom for a while, so I was just chatting with Jane."

I kindly added, "Oh, he came back a while ago."

Elsa shot me a deadly glare.

Ignoring me, she grabbed Jeremiah's hand and pleaded softly, "Jeremiah, I swear,

I didn't mean anything by it."

But Jeremiah's cold gaze stayed locked on me instead of her. It was as if he was trying to drill a hole through my face.

The next second, he scoffed and turned to Elsa. "What, you think I'd fall for Jane's tricks? I don't believe a word of it. Let's go. I'll take you to

Masrodian restaurant you love."

Then, as if to prove a point, he pulled Elsa into his arms and walked off with her.

I shrugged, completely unbothered.

With how paranoid Jeremiah was,

could already predict what would

got

happen next. By the time they home, Elsa would be interrogated endlessly.

And as for Elsa... Well, ever since she

set her sights on Eric, she had nee

been nearly as obsessed with. Jeremiah. I'd love to know what happened after they left.

Just as I was grinning to myself, Eric's deep voice interrupted my thoughts.

"What's got you so amused?" he asked as he waved a hand in front of my face. "Was there a live performance here or something?"

I shook my head, surprised by his train of thought. I couldn't help but laugh. "It's a café, Eric. Why would there be a performance?"

Then, I added, "Though... I suppose what just happened was pretty entertaining. Too bad I won't get to see how it ends."
