“Long time no see,” Minerva greeted Rowan first. After several years, she had let go of the past. Now, meeting him again after three years, she felt calm. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
When she first went abroad, she occasionally thought about their entanglements. But as time passed, she eventually stopped thinking about Rowan altogether.
It turned out that time truly was a great healer.
“Long time no see,” Rowan replied, meeting Minerva’s gaze while feeling a heavy weight in
his chest.
After years of not seeing her, the reality of this reunion struck him hard. He could clearly feel her indifference, and her eyes showed no trace of lingering feelings.
Had she really let go of everything that had happened between them three years ago?
Minerva smiled back and nodded, but she didn’t know what else to say to Rowan. So, she just glanced awkwardly at Skylar and said, “I need to go to the restroom.”
“Do you want me to go with you?” Skylar asked.
But Minerva just shook her head.
Rowan’s gaze followed her as she left, only looking away once she was out of sight. Then, he turned to Skylar and asked, “How have you been these past few years?”
After what happened to Joe in Murida, Skylar left Jipsburg and stayed away for three years. During that time, people gradually forgot about Joe. But among their circle of friends, it was clear that Skylar was the one most affected by his disappearance besides Gloria.
Yet she had shown true responsibility, remaining in Murida to care for Gloria. If it had been anyone else, their first thought might have been securing as much wealth as possible after Joe’s downfall.
Because of this, their friends had great respect for her.
Skylar smiled and replied, “Not bad. How about you?”
She could see that Rowan hadn’t moved on from Minerva. Three years might not be a very long time, but it wasn’t short either. Many things could have changed.
“I’m still the same. It’s good to see you doing well. If you need anything while you’re back in Jipsburg, just call me. I’ll do whatever I can to help.” There was a hint of despondency in Rowan’s demeanor, likely a result of his encounter with Minerva and her cold attitude toward
him.
Rowan seemed to have lost interest in everything.
Suddenly, something crossed his mind, and he asked, “Did Minerva mention her fiancé to you?
In the past three years, he had traveled abroad more than once. He knew where Minerva was studying and had even waited outside her campus, watching her from afar. But he never approached her or said hello. Perhaps he just didn’t have the courage.
A few days ago, he found out that Minerva had returned, and she wasn’t alone. She was with her boyfriend, and they were about to get engaged.
So, he looked into his background and found him to be quite impressive. The thought of it felt like a dull knife cutting through his heart.
Skylar just shook her head. “She didn’t say much. You…”
“I’m a pretty boring person,” Rowan said with a smile. “I was the one who called off the engagement back then, and yet I’m the one who regrets it now.
“Over the past few years, I’ve realized that no one can replace her. If her fiancé treats her well, I’ll wish them the best. But if he doesn’t… I won’t let go.”
After finishing his words, Rowan picked up a glass of red wine and downed it in one go.
Skylar didn’t know what to say. Sometimes, the human heart was just that complicated. When one had something, one wouldn’t know to cherish it. Only after losing it did one feel the heart- wrenching pain.
“Have you heard of Ned Sowle while you were in Murida?” Rowan suddenly asked. Skylar shook her head and said, “No, I haven’t.”
