Serenity and Zachary York

Chapter 3161

Chapter 3161

Rhea entered the house.

Her in-laws stood, and Old Mrs. Torres even went up to her.

With a kind smile, she said, “You're back, Rhea.”

“I'm home.”

No matter how tired Rhea was, she felt a sense of stability whenever she returned home and saw her in-laws and son. Everything was worth it as long as the people she cherished were healthy.

“Are you hungry? I made some soup and kept some for you. It’s still warm. I'll bring it out for you.

“Things must be really busy at the company lately. You look tired when you come home every night. You've even lost weight. I'm worried. You have to do so much because Victor died young.”

Upon mentioning her deceased son, Old Mrs. Torres’s eyes teared up. Although it had been seven years since Victor's passing, she felt miserable whenever she thought of him.

Rhea was also a mother who had a son.

She would be anxious when Dean caught a cold or fever and wished she was the sick one instead.

She could not imagine losing Dean early. She would go crazy. Therefore, Rhea could empathize with her in-laws.

“Okay. I'll have the soup.”

She was not hungry because she just returned from a dinner session. However, she did not want to waste Old Mrs. Torres's kindness.

She could still stomach a bowl of soup.

Rhea greeted Old Mr. Torres and passed her bag to a maid, who stored it away for her.

She put her arms around Dean when he sat on her lap.

“You two shouldn't wait up, and just go to bed early. That applies to you as well, Dean. Rest earlier. You don't have to wait for me.”

“I want to sleep after you're back. You're not at home during the day. If I don't wait for you, I can't even see you for the entire day,” argued Dean. Rhea replied, “I'm sorry. I can't accompany you because I'm occupied with work.”

If only she had someone to rely on, she would not be that exhausted. Only she knew how difficult it was to raise a child and support her in- laws’ business as a widow.

That was why she was jealous of Liberty.

Liberty had Serenity. The sisters had relied on each other for many years and were close-knitted.

Even if Serenity did not marry into a wealthy family, she could still support Liberty. If Liberty were bullied by her in-laws, Serenity would defend her sister.

Needless to say, marrying into the York family and having their support allowed Serenity to help Liberty and Sonny out more.

To Liberty, Serenity was dependable and could back her up in any situation.

On the other hand, while Rhea'’s parents and siblings were still alive, all they could think of was how to get their hands on the Torres family’s money. She was even scolded for keeping the money out of their hands. They also accused her of siding with a family unrelated to her and not helping her blood-related family.

Was it not obvious why she protected the Torres family’s assets?

Rhea was exasperated.

No matter how difficult and tiring things were, she would never seek help from her family. They would embezzle everything the Torres family had accumulated over generations.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

If that happened, what would remain for Dean?

Rhea did have a family, but she would have to rely on Dean to care for her when she got old. She was closer to her son. Everything that belonged to the Torres family and what she earned was to be inherited by Dean.

All the money she gave her parents would only go to her brother's family anyway.
