Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption

Chapter 862

"Answer me first!"Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

Liz had no choice but to respond, her impatience growing.

"You said so much yesterday, how am I supposed to know which part you're talking about. You're running a fever, now let go and get up. We need to head down the mountain. Otherwise, I'm calling Cedric to send a rescue team up here. The great Mr. Dashiell surely doesn't want to be carried down the mountain by a rescue team first thing in the morning, right?"

Remington pressed his forehead against Liz's neck again, seeking comfort in her cool, smooth skin as if he was suffering from a severe case of skin hunger.

His voice was raspy, his breath hot.

"Liz, you little liar, you definitely know what I'm talking about. This is Daisy's doing, it's fate. Don't try to deny it..."

He had said yesterday, if the night passed without rain until dawn.

If the skies were clear, it meant even Daisy wanted them to be together, asking her to give him another chance.

Yet here she was, refusing to admit it.

Remington suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of injustice. Even Daisy seemed to have softened her heart towards him, yet she refused to even look back at him. Liz, "..."

She found it hard to communicate normally with a sick man, her voice tender, stroking his damp hair.

"How about you come down the mountain with me first, and then give me a little time to think, okay?"

"That means you have to seriously consider it," the man was obviously not so easily fooled.

Liz couldn't help but smile a bit, nodding her head.

"Yeah, I will."

"I don't have the strength to get up, help me."

That's when Remington spoke.

Liz hurriedly stood up to support Remington, his large body heavy as she helped him up, practically hanging off her.

Liz trained in dance every day, never neglecting her basic skills. Her foundation was solid, her balance strong, and her physical condition not bad.

Even so, she staggered under his weight, almost causing them both to fall.

Now she had no doubts Remington was really sick, and it seemed serious.

"Remi, you have to hold on tight to me, hang in there, we're going down the mountain."

Liz was worried he wouldn't be able to maintain his grip, causing them both to tumble down.

But after taking a couple of steps, the man hadn't moved.

Turning back, Liz saw Remington's gaze fixed on Daisy's tombstone.

She looked as well, her eyes flickering slightly.

Daisy, thank you.

Mom and Dad couldn't protect you, but you protected them.

Next time, Mom will bring you something delicious she made herself, okay?

She silently said in her heart.

Whether she believed in fate or not, the rainless night had indeed changed Liz's mindset somewhat. She slowly helped Remington down the mountain, where Cedric rushed up, anxious and concerned. "What happened to you, sir? Let me help..."

As Cedric reached out to take Remington's arm, intending to relieve Liz, he surprisingly couldn't manage it. Confused, he tried again with more force, only to meet Remington's dark, displeased eyes.

Cedric shivered, quickly letting go.

But inside, he was impressed.
