Chapter 39 Do You Still Think I’m Joking?
“You know where I am just by looking at a photo?”
Amanda still didn’t believe him.
“Is it that difficult?”
Iverson took a sip of his tea, looking perfectly relaxed.
Half an hour ago, when he saw Amanda’s photo on Moments, he asked Jamie to check the restaurant’s location. Five minutes later, he confirmed that she was in this restaurant.
“The environment here is average. I know of a pretty good Japanese restaurant. I’ll take you there next time.”
“I also think it’s average. This place is not suitable for your identity. Why don’t you change to another place?”
“No need; I have to make do.”
The corners of Amanda’s mouth twitched.
“How did Iverson come here uninvited and make self-righteous comments about other people’s restaurants?”
The saki was finally sent over.
Amanda poured herself a glass of sake. “Would you like some?”
Iverson shook his head and reminded her, “You should drink less too.”
“The alcohol content of the saki is not high. It doesn’t matter if I drink a little. It can help me sleep.”
Amanda said it casually, but Iverson looked at her thoughtfully for a long time.
“The trial will be held in two days. Is there anything I can do for you?”
Amanda smiled self-mockingly. “Mr. Byran, other than a lawyer, who can help me with a divorce? Don’t tell me that you can bribe the judge?”
Iverson didn’t say anything else because she was a little drunk.
As Amanda poured herself a glass of saki, she said, “That’s not right. You did help me a lot in my work and life before. I should thank you.”
She raised her glass. “A toast to you, Mr. Byran. Thank you.”
“I don’t like it when you say thank you to me. Sincere gratitude requires practical action, not just words.”
Amanda was stunned.
“Bang!” There was a crisp sound, and her wrist shook slightly.
It was the sound of Iverson holding up his teacup and clinking it against her. Both cups were hanging above the dining table, and he said, “There’s no need to be so polite between a couple.”
Amanda’s temples throbbed.
Why was Iverson in such a hurry to marry her?
“Mr. Byran, even if you’re not joking, I don’t understand why it’s me. So many people want to marry you. You can marry one of them you want.”
“Why can’t it be you?”
Iverson asked again. “Why aren’t you the kind of woman I want?”
“How could this be possible?”
Amanda chuckled. She didn’t believe that she would be the one who got his love. “Mr. Byran, how long have we known each other? We met three months ago because of our cooperation, hasn’t it?”
Although Amanda was in charge of the cooperation project between the Sean Group and the Byran Group, she didn’t have many chances to meet Iverson. Even until they signed the contract, they had few opportunities to meet.
She didn’t believe Iverson had been interested in her for a long time.
“It’s not the first time we met three months ago.”
Iverson’s words stunned Amanda, but she recovered quickly. “Yes, we did meet at various banquets, but there is no intersection between us. Mr. Byran, please don’t make fun of me, okay?”
“Do you still think I’m joking with you?”
Iverson’s eyes darkened, and he suddenly grabbed Amanda’s hand, which was pouring wine.
“Mr. Byran, what are you doing?”Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Before Amanda could come back to her senses, the bottle in her hand was removed. In the next second, she cried out in surprise and fell onto the tatami, his vast body pressing down on her.
“Squawk~~~.”
Iverson’s kiss was laced with solid male hormones and was highly aggressive. He didn’t give her any chance to react and fiercely ravaged her nerves.
Amanda’s brain seemed to be short of oxygen in an instant. As he went deeper, her chest rose and fell violently. She tried to absorb a little air to maintain life.
The footsteps outside abruptly pulled back Amanda’s thoughts. She struggled but didn’t dare to make too much noise, fearing that someone would hear something strange.
“Let… let me go!”
Her voice was almost squeezed out from the gaps between her teeth in her gasps. She was ashamed and angry, but it sounded more like pleading because she was weak.
This time, Iverson did not intend to let her off so quickly.
His big hands wandered on her body as if he wanted to crush her. His movements were rough.
He bit hard on Amanda’s lips.
“Ouch-” She cried in pain but quickly shut her mouth.
During her struggle, a pair of hands was pressed over her head.
Iverson’s voice was husky and alluring. “Do you still think I’m joking with you?”
He undid his tie with one hand and the buttons of his shirt. His wheat-colored skin and the muscles of his chest were plump and tight.
Amanda struggled in fear, but his grip tightened.
“No!”
She suddenly closed her eyes and turned her face to avoid Iverson’s kiss.
Tears trickled down the corner of her eyes and dripped onto the tatami.
Iverson’s brows furrowed slightly, and astonishment flitted across his eyes. He then let go of Amanda.
Amanda got up quickly, clutched her clothes, and was about to leave but was stopped by Iverson’s voice. “Do you think people won’t misunderstand if you go out like this?”
Her clothes were messy, and her eyes were slightly red. Her tears had not dried yet. Anyone who saw her walking out of the private room would have their imagination run wild.
Amanda gritted her teeth and was hesitant to leave or not.
“Don’t worry. I won’t touch you if you disagree.”
Iverson had returned to his seat. He poured the rest of the saki and drank it alone.
He did not like drinking. The feeling of hot and spicy sliding down his throat was not a good taste for him. “Drowning one’s sorrow with alcohol was a coward’s behavior,” He used to think so.
Amanda struggled for a long time before finally sitting down, but she was still staring at Iverson warily. Her affection for him had disappeared entirely because of what he had just done.
“I won’t marry you.”
Amanda gritted her teeth and said, “I don’t care if you’re serious or not. It has nothing to do with me. I’m not targeting you. I’ve been married once and don’t want to get married again.”
She had already clarified it, but Iverson said flatly, “Wait until you win the lawsuit.”
“That’s impossible!”
She clenched her fists. “And I may not necessarily win the lawsuit.”
If she lost, she didn’t believe Iverson would still insist on marrying a woman who had nothing.
Iverson, however, replied thoughtfully, “I’m here. You can’t lose.”
It was late at night, and Iverson insisted on sending Amanda back to the hotel by force.
Lying on the bed in the hotel, Amanda tossed and turned but couldn’t fall asleep. When Amanda closed her eyes, Iverson’s face was in her mind. He was so close to her that she could see the mole on his nose clearly.
Damn!
In her past life, she must have owed Iverson a lot. Otherwise, how could he still be entangled with a divorced woman like her until now?
