The Alpha King's Hybrid Mate

Chapter 16

Zayne sat on his throne chair when a guard walked up to him.

"My Alpha, Elder Lauren wants to have an audience with you." The guard bowed, while Zayne sighed.

Elder Lauren had always been on his neck for the issue of his mate, he had frequented the palace just to remind him that he was mate-less.

"What a jobless old man." He muttered between bated breaths, wondering what he might be in his palace early in the morning.

"Let him in." He ordered the guard, who bowed and walked out of the room.

A few seconds later, a white-bearded man walked in; one could tell that he was already in his early eighties by the way he walked, yet he still bothered himself with the pack matters.

"Greetings, my Alpha."

"Greetings, Elder Lauren. Did you come here again because of my mate? I told you not to worry yourself, you are old already and should just take a rest at home." Zayne said in a single breath, hoping the old man would just give up and walk away. But to his greatest surprise, Elder Lauren pulled a chair and sat opposite him.

He cleared his throat and adjusted his sitting position properly.

"I am not here for that, Alpha Zayne." Elder Lauren replied. There was a hint of seriousness in his voice, and Zayne could sense it.noveldrama

He wondered what could make Elder Lauren personally visit him if it wasn't about his mate-less status. He was sure it was something of great importance considering how serious he talked.

"We have been at loggerheads with the Blue Moon pack for years now, and it seems they no longer regard us as a worthy opponent." Elder Lauren muttered, and Zayne's attention was caught. He sat upright with a curious look on his face.

"What do you mean by that, Elder Lauren?" Zayne asked ignorantly. Elder Lauren opened his mouth to answer but he was stopped by his chronic cough. He coughed for about three minutes before finally ceasing.

"You should take care of your health," Zayne said with concern, gently patting the old man's back.

"I am fine, I know my health very well." He replied and switched back to the previous topic.

"As I said, the blue moon pack might be eyeing us with covetous eyes. Didn't you hear of the latest news?" Elder Lauren asked, and Zayne was thrown into a deeper pit of confusion.

"I don't understand, please stop speaking in parables, Elder Lauren."

"A girl from our pack has just been recently crowned as their Luna." Elder Lauren revealed to him, and Zayne's face erupted into fierce anger. All the guards in the palace went on their knees as no one dared to offend him at the moment.

"What? Did it happen?" Zayne asked, he was dumbfounded and shocked at the same time.

Making someone from their pack the Luna of another pack could spell doom for them, especially as it was an enemy pack. Their secrets are no longer safe, and they could be wiped off at any moment.

"The spies that I planted there told me personally; it can't be wrong." Elder Lauren replied and Zayne's face opened wide.

He knew for sure that he had to act fast, or he might not survive the next day as the Alpha of the Red Moon pack.

"Thank you, Elder Lauren. I will personally see to it, and will give everyone an answer very soon." Zayne replied with a slight bow.

The elder nodded his head, and slowly got up from his seat.

"The identity of the girl remains unknown. Whenever I have a clue as to who she is, I will let you know." He said and headed towards the palace door.

He had only taken a foot out of the door when he turned to Zayne with a mischievous look;

"And find something to do about your mate. Our Alpha can't be alone all day without a mate, and you know you must have an heir; only then will you be able to convince everyone and prove to be the true Alpha." He said while Zayne sighed.

Elder Lauren was right, he had to act fast about his mate-less issue, but he must deal with this pressing matter first.

He called to one of the guards who came rushing to him.

"Bring me one of the most beautiful girls that were trained as spies, now!" He roared, and the man dashed out of the

room.

He reappeared a few minutes later with a girl named Clara.

"Do you know your job?" Zayne asked Clara in a cold tone, and she hurriedly went on her knees.

"Yes, my Alpha."

"Good. Now, I want you to hide yourself in the blue moon pack, gain favor from their Alpha, and slowly destroy him." He yelled out and Clara bowed even deeper.

"Yes, My Alpha." She muttered once again.

"Remember, be very discreet about it; you mustn't be discovered, or else, only death awaits you," Zayne warned, and Clara nodded her head.

"You can set off now; I will send some men to escort you safely into the pack; you should find your way around once you arrive at the blue moon pack." Clara got up and made to be on her way. She had just reached the door when Zayne's words flowed into her ears.

"And the girl that was crowned as the Luna, if you have the chance, eliminate her."

"Yes, my Alpha."
