Chapter 54: The Promise
“Tredan, how come you seem to know so much.”
Tredan Davi said nothing, just smiled, stroked Octavia Gills’ head, and they both just disappeared around the corner of that street!
Later, Octavia Gills just showed herself to Eddison as a dutiful employee and then flew back with Tredan Davi! After getting off the plane, Tredan Davi offered to go with Octavia Gills to the hospital to see her brother Gar.
“Why are you suddenly thinking this way, everything you’ve been doing lately has been a particular surprise to me, so many heartwarming gestures, what am I supposed to do?” Octavia Gills spoke thoughtfully, only now Tredan Davi was unaware that this was an omen given to him by Octavia Gills.
“Because you’re the one I love, and to marry you, of course, I have to please my brother-in-law first!” Tredan Davi said with a straight face.
Marry her? Did Tredan Davi just say he was going to marry her? “Did you say you will marry me?”
“Fool, of course, I’ll marry you, I’ve been looking for you for so long and it’s hard to find you, I won’t give you any chance to get away from me!”
Octavia Gills was right, Tredan Davi really wanted to marry her! Octavia Gills was both happy and sad, a mixture of joy and sadness.
“Octavia, what’s wrong? Why are you suddenly so pale, are you not feeling well somewhere?” She looked fine a moment ago, but now why is she??
That’s it, Tredan Davi worriedly placed his palm on Octavia Gills’ forehead to check her temperature!
“Nothing! I’m just so touched! I never dared to hope to be with you, let alone be married to you! Tredan, thank you, you’ve given me great memories, enough to last me a lifetime!”
“Fool, so easily satisfied, so easily touched, there are still long days ahead? I will spend my life loving you and loving you!” Tredan Davi didn’t just make promises, every promise he made in his life was a promise made only for Octavia Gills, and it was Lilian Drye’s impersonation before that intercepted the promise that was meant for Octavia Gills alone!
In the Notre Dame Hospital.
“I say Gar, why are you reading so much, there are not even enough books on this table for you, as a patient you should be resting and taking care of your body, this is not good, you’re reading too much!” Gar’s private duty nurse nagged at Gar’s ear again.
Fortunately, Octavia Gills was never willing to let him give up his studies and even brought in teachers from school to tutor him in the hospital, whether it was for his primary, secondary or higher exams, Octavia Gills did everything she could, even paying the expensive fees, to make Gar take the exams like a normal person. She also bought Gar lots and lots of books and told him that books were good, that they could clear up negative emotions, that they could make him feel warm and sunny when he felt he was living a dark life, and that reading could bring him the joy.
It was Octavia Gills who saved Gar, who had been confused and hated his condition, and whose dedication helped him face his illness more positively and fight it bravely, and finally, the day came?? he was ready for surgery!
“My sister said reading is good, books not only bring wisdom but it also gives people happiness, books are honest and sincere tutors, a good masterpiece is the essence of someone’s life. Reading them can attract the essence of someone’s life, so why not do it! I can’t put it down, I’m so happy to read it every day, and I’m getting better fast!” Gar was a particular favorite of the nurses and doctors, and the medical staff admired Gar’s optimism about the world even though he was born with a heart condition.
“Look at how happy you are, you’re so happy you’ve got a little red flower!” Of all the patients she has cared for, Gar has touched her, such a strong boy!
“Oh, can you tell me why our brother Gar is happy with a little red flower?” Tredan Davi had done his homework before he arrived and knew all about Gar’s likes and dislikes.
Gar remembered Tredan Davi, the big brother who got him a very good doctor to treat him! Gar was especially grateful to Tredan Davi, only today there was something different about Tredan Davi, much closer than before, rather Gar saw his sister Octavia Gills was holding hands with Tredan Davi, and Gar smelled something different.
“Wait, what’s with saying ‘our Gar’, you can’t just say that!” Gar just wanted to tease them both, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that must not be wasted! This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Octavia Gills could see that Gar was getting ready to start giving Tredan Davi a hard time, “You brat, why are you talking like that, no big deal, Tredan is the man who saved your life.” Tredan Davi stopped Octavia Gills from going on, he patted Octavia Gills on the back, “I believe I can take care of this boy!”
“What? What boy? You…” Gar was about to come at him when he saw Tredan Davi pulling a box out of an elaborate gift bag and opening it calmly in front of Gar’s eyes, and what caught Gar’s eye was Notre Dame de Paris, one of the top ten books, and when he picked it up, he saw that it was a copy of ‘Les Miserables’. Short of jumping out of his skin, Gar was so excited as it was one of his favorite works by Victor Hugo. It was his favorite novel by Victor Hugo, and especially ‘Notre Dame de Paris’, his first major romantic novel. It established Victor Hugo’s reputation as a world-renowned novelist.
“Tredan, you… are just a first handsome beautiful man, gentle and with considerate confidence, the object of my worship.”
“What? What did you say?” Tredan Davi was telling Gar that it was a term of endearment he didn’t like.
Gar, who was very perceptive, immediately said, “Sister’s boyfriend! Right?”
“Hmm? I have to be very clear with you, these are world famous books, a world limited edition, a handwritten version by the author, only five copies are in circulation in the world and giving me that moniker seems to strike me as a particularly bad deal!” Tredan Davi was shaking his head and sighing deeply indicating that it didn’t fit! Gar’s mouth dropped open for a minute when he heard about the handwritten limited edition, and he was holding the expensive world books, stammering like an excited little boy.
“I… me, you… ah so excited ah, I’m too excited, let me calm this excited mind.” Without saying a word, he cuddled the books directly in his arms, trying to inhale the fragrance of the ink that wafted out between the lines of those books, it smelled so good! “Brother-in-law, you’ll be my favorite brother-in-law from now on! In our family, I am my backup, with me you have a backup. How’s that? Brother-in-law, is that okay?”
That was a very nice way for Gar to call him brother-in-law and Tredan Davi smiled with satisfaction.
Octavia Gills was speechless, the madness of her lover, and the uncouth selling of her sister by her brother all made Octavia Gills appreciate once again that the man is so powerfully changed that he was able to play out three or four dramatizations of the set in a few minutes.
“Since when am I an item you can sell, and you can buy? Don’t you two think it’s outrageous to discuss the terms of a deal in front of me so nakedly?” Octavia Gills accused Tredan Davi and Gar of pointing at each of them, but who knew that Tredan Davi would continue to discuss the origins of the books with Gar as if he hadn’t heard Octavia Gills at all.
Octavia Gills was depressed that a few books have made Gar sell her sister out and not only that, but Gar is now so close to Tredan Davi that making her feel like she was an outsider and these two were blood brothers!
The communication between these men was strange, and Octavia Gills looked at the two men who treated her as if she was completely transparent! She couldn’t enter their world, not even if she had the same blood running through her veins!
“Sister, you’ve got a real eye for picking such a great brother-in-law, it blows my mind!” Gar finally raised his eyes to look right at Octavia Gills, only to have those words irritate Octavia Gills!
“Hey, you ungrateful brat, what do you mean by that? What do you mean I blew you away! I’m worse? Why am I worse?” How can there be a brother who is so damaging to his sister?
Tredan Davi, who was listening to the hilarity from the sidelines, laughed out loud avoiding any suspicion, “Gar, I find I love you more and more! If you need anything from now on, just your brother-in-law and he’ll take care of it all for you.” With that, Tredan Davi handed Gar his card.
“You must love me because you are my only brother-in-law, ah, as the saying goes, an elder brother is like a father, you, my brother-in-law is also considered my half-brother, treat me well, I will sell my sister to you, brother-in-law!”
“Gar, can you talk properly now!” Octavia Gills felt disgraced by her brother, leaving her doubly embarrassed and red-faced in front of Tredan Davi!
“What are you doing, sister?” Gar’s actions now looked frivolous, but in his heart, he knew that a man who gave himself to a woman to this extent would not just be out of a common fondness or playfulness, Gar could see that Tredan Davi truly loved his sister, Gar had always felt that his condition had caused Octavia to sacrifice so much and had always been indebted to her. He saw Tredan Davi today going to such lengths to please him for his sister, Gar could see the determination and the loving look in Tredan Davi’s eyes whenever he looked at Octavia Gills, he was convinced that this man could love his sister well, in-as-much-as her sister’s demeanor betrayed that she was in love with Tredan Davi!
How wonderful! It’s good to have someone to look after his sister! Gar will feel better in his heart that God has finally favored their family for once and he hopes that Tredan Davi will make Octavia Gills happy.
“Brother-in-law, I have something unpleasant to say up front, make sure you take care of my sister! It’s a request and an exhortation!”
Tredan Davi smiled gently, looked at Gar with a very determined look, patted him on the shoulder, and said to him, “Don’t worry, I will!”
Octavia Gills looked at the two men with her and felt a kind of happiness was a particularly wonderful thing, watching these two men, both younger than herself, say those words gave her happiness and it felt so good to be protected and cared for, she turned out to be so lucky!
