Chapter 1728
Creating the serum wasn't as straightforward as it seemed. Mirabella had practically barricaded herself in the lab and hadn't stepped out since she started.
It wasn't until 11 a.m. the next day that she finally emerged, clutching a vial of transparent serum.noveldrama
Dr. Ray had popped in several times, and upon seeing Mirabella at last, he quickly asked, "So, how did it go? Is it ready?"
"It's done," Mirabella replied, her voice a bit raspy, her eyes rimmed with fatigue.
Dr. Ray let out a relieved sigh. "Keir's condition is really shaky. If we don't get his body temperature back to normal soon, even if we manage a timely blood transfusion, he might face some serious complications."
"I know," Mirabella nodded.
Dr. Ray's gaze fell on the vial in her hand. "Is that the blood fusion serum you were talking about?"
"Yeah," Mirabella confirmed, pulling out her phone to text Alex to get ready for a blood donation. Without wasting any time, she headed towards the ward.
Dr. Ray ran a hand through his hair, feeling like his medical knowledge was being constantly turned on its head these past couple of days. Using cold saline as a temporary blood substitute was one thing-there were studies on that—but a blood fusion serum? That was pushing the boundaries.
Dr. Ray quickly caught up with Mirabella.
Mirabella first checked on Chester in the ward, then moved to the next room.
A nurse was drawing blood from Alex, and she had already collected about 500 milliliters.
His face was paler than usual, and he looked visibly worn out.
"Hey, sis," Alex greeted from the bed, managing a faint, good-natured smile.
Mirabella glanced over his pale face and then at the blood bag, nodding slightly before pulling up a chair to sit beside him. "Does it hurt?"
"If I say yes, will you be nicer to me?" Alex joked with a grin.
His lighthearted comment broke the tension in the room. Mirabella
watched him quietly, surprising ne
holding back from her usual playful smack, "Sure."
"You're being so gentle all of a sudden. It's kinda weird," Alex remarked, scratching his head, feeling both surprised and pleased.
Was he secretly into tough love? Mirabella gave him a sidelong glance, "Stop talking nonsense."
Alex immediately fell silent.
As more blood was drawn, he started feeling dizzy, and his strength began to fade.
Another five minutes passed, and Alex's eyes were barely open, yet he stubbornly kept quiet, enduring it all.
"We can't take more; he might go into shock," the nurse warned, concerned.
Even adults struggle when they lose over a liter of blood quickly, let alone a teenager.
"I'm okay," Alex insisted, struggling to keep his eyes open. He knew his sister's loved one desperately needed blood, and what they had
wasn't enough yet.
"We really can't take more," the nurse pleaded, turning to Mirabella. "It's too risky."
Mirabella remained silent, her
fingers clenching on her knee. After
another five minutes, she finally
stood up and gently removed the
needle from Alex's arm.
"Sis... I can keep going," Alex murmured, his consciousness fading, driven by sheer determination.
Mirabella's throat felt dry. She gently pulled the blanket over her brother, whispering, "You're my family too."
There was no reason to save one life by putting another in jeopardy.
What do you think?
