Chapter 1739
Reid turned to the second elder before addressing Mirabella. "Miss Mira, you should head out first. I'll take care of things here."
Mirabella raised an eyebrow at Reid but gave a quick nod. "Alright."
In no time, she and Dr. Ray vanished from everyone's sight. Reid's focus shifted back as his team resumed their positions, effectively blocking the passageway. The second elder's face scrunched up in displeasure. "What's going on here?"
"Please, take it easy," Jaime chimed in, resting a calming hand on the elder's shoulder. He glanced in Mirabella's direction and added, "Miss Mira is young and just got back. It's understandable if she's not fully acquainted with our ways yet. No need to get worked up."
Though it seemed Jaime was defending Mirabella, his words subtly pinned the blame on her.
With a disdainful snort, the second elder remembered that this so-called Miss Mira was from the countryside. "Miss Penelope is around the same age, but she doesn't act so high and mighty."
It's true; where you come from often shapes who you are. Is she really worthy of being called Miss Mira?
"Well, it's not exactly apples to apples," Jaime chuckled. "They didn't start from the same place."
One was raised within the Davis family, and the other was brought back from the countryside. How could you compare the two?
The second elder turned to Reid again. "Are you really going to stand up for this country girl, Miss Mira, and make things difficult for us?"
Reid stood his ground, unwavering.
The second elder, realizing they wouldn't see Keir today, nodded with a smirk. "Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you."
With that, he turned and left. The rest of the elders saw no reason to stick around and quickly joined him in the elevator.noveldrama
Jaime, the last to leave, gave Reid a knowing look. "Miss Mira's already ruffled a few feathers. Her journey ahead won't be smooth."
Reid watched Jaime closely, his brow furrowing slightly.
Jaime, with a sly smile, twirled his
rosary
ele as he stepped into the
elevator. Once the doors shut, Reid shook off Jaime's unsettling grin.
His eyes darkened as he ordered his team to stay put, then went to find Mirabella.
**As Jaime and the elders went downstairs, they soon parted ways.
Jaime lounged in his car, one leg casually crossed, watching the cityscape blur past with a satisfied grin.
After a moment, he turned to his trusted driver. "Has Miss Penelope returned yet?"
The driver glanced up in the rearview mirror. "Not yet. There's a new
faction causing a stir in the soul new
and She's still dealing with them. It might take a while." fo
Jaime nodded thoughtfully. "Give her a call later and update her on Keir's situation."
The driver looked a bit confused. "If Miss Penelope manages to handle that faction, it could really boost her standing in the Davis family. If she hears about Keir, though, she might rush back."
"If she doesn't come back, someone else might take what's hers," Jaime remarked coolly.
This niece Jim found has a presence that matches Penelope's. Even if we don't know her full potential, it's better to be safe than sorry.
The elders might underestimate her, but Jaime wouldn't. In the Davis family, underestimating anyone is a mistake.
Just like with Nick years ago. Everyone thought he was easy prey, but he turned out to be a real powerhouse.
What do you think?
