Chapter 12 The Twins Were Disgusted
Noticing the attention on her, Stella grew even more anxious.
The last thing she wanted was for anyone to realize she was connected to that tacky, broke woman.

Nydia, still grinnung, cheerfully greeted Cassia and Ashen. "Hey there! Stella's big brothers, right? That makes you my boys too! We're all one big family now!"
The words made the twins visibly uncomfortable. Their smiles vanished.
Stella quickly snapped, "Can you not come out with that kind of nonsense? We're not related to you! What do you want from

Nydia kept up her overly friendly tone and said, "Stella, sweetie, your little brother's about to start school, and, well, we're a bit strapped for cash. Do you think you could help out? Or. Her eyes flicked toward the twins. "Since you both adore Stella- so much. I'm sure you love her brother too. How about you chip in together!"
Ashen barely held back the urge to curse.
Unbelievable. The nerve
Cassia had had enough and no longer wanted to embarrass himself. He said, "Stella. let's go. She's just greedy and shameless. Don't waste your time."
Stella agreed and was ready to leave, but Nydia grabbed her arm. "Stella, you can't just walk away from your own brother. He's your blood! That bitch Davina might not care, but you can't be like her!"
The moment Nydia spat out that insult-that bitch Davina-Cassia's and Ashen's expressions shifted subtly.
Stella shoved her away and hissed, "I barely know you. I really don't know your son. Don't come looking for me again! My parents already gave you money-don't think you can milk me too!"
She pushed Nydia aside and fled to the car like she was escaping the plague. Nydia tried to chase after her, but the car had already sped off.
The atmosphere inside the vehicle was tense-especially between the twins.
Tears welled in Stella's eyes as she whispered, "Cassia... Ashen... I'm sorry... Thad no idea she'd show up. To me, you two are my real family
Their expressions softened a little.
It wasn't just Nydia's public outburst that had embarrassed them. It was the way she insulted Davina-it didn't sit right with
them
No matter how much they disliked Davina, she was still family.
Who did that woman think she was, cursing their own sister?
Davina was their flesh and blood.
That's not on you. Good thing you didn't grow up in a house like that," Ashen muttered with a scowl. "Having a mother like that? It's humiliating People like her just suck the life out of their own family. Honestly, she reminds me of those awful relatives on daytime TV shows. You should've cut ties long ago."
Cassia gave Stella a reassuring pat on the head and said solemnly. "Exactly. No money, no class, and zero dignity. No wonder Davina turned out so shallow-look who raised her. Like mother, like daughter."noveldrama
Stella whispered, "Sull. I feel kind of bad for her. Everything our family has should've been hers."

"What do you mean 'should've? Ashen replied coldly. "It's yours. No one's taking that from you."
Stella bit her lip and nodded softly, looking all pitiful
Only when the brothers turned away did her lips curve into a smug smile.
Davina, youpatheticbumpkin. Whatdoyourvenhavetofightmewith?

But what Stella didn't know was that something Nydia said-about blood ties, about the so-called little brother-had left an uncomfortable trace in the twins' minds.
Not enough to change the way they treated Stella. Not yet.
Zlanta General Hospital
"She's technically still alive, the nurse sighed, "but she's in a persistent vegetative state. Realistically, the chances of her waking up are next to none. The doctors already advised her parents to prepare for the worst."
The girl lying motionless in the hospital bed was Maisie Newman-the same girl Stella had pushed down the stairs.
The sam
same girl whose injuries led to Davina taking the blame and spending two years in prison.
To keep the story under wraps, the Summers had paid Maisie's family a hefty settlement.
"Where are her parents?" Davina asked.
"They used to visit a lot, the nurse replied, "but now? It's been a while since they last came."
With that, the nurse left.
Davina stepped to the bedside. She touched Maisie's forehead, then slowly
moved her fingers down to the spot between her nose and lips, then her jawline,
and finally to the center of her chest.
Modern medicine might've given up on her, but Davina hadn't
She had a way. It would just take a little work.
What do you think?
