The Great Medical Saint

Chapter 276

Sara was unsettled by Louis' unshakable confidence. After witnessing Hayden in action, she was impressed and found it hard to believe anyone could surpass him.

So, she asked Louis, "Are you sure you can take that guy down?"

He smiled confidently. "You might not know the difference between martial artists and ordinary people. Even if that chauffeur were a 200-pound muscle-bound giant, I could take him out with just a flick of my finger." Sara nodded. "Okay. I'll trust that Hayden's people aren't pushovers."

...

At the school entrance, Matthew stood among a crowd of parents. He tried to spot Lorraine by standing on his tiptoes.

He saw her in the kindergarten line, looking around nervously as if searching for him. So, he waved his hand to get her attention.

When Lorraine saw him, her face lit up with joy. She squealed, "Dad!" She ran out of line with a big smile.

Matthew's heart melted at the sight of her happiness. He pushed through the crowd, crouched, and spread his arms wide.

She leaped into his arms, and her face glowed with joy. "Dad, I'm so happy," she exclaimed, laughing with delight.

He hugged her tightly and stood up. "Why?"

Lorraine said proudly, "Jaden always says his dad comes to pick him up and loves him the most. I told him my dad loves me too.

"He said you hadn't come for days, so maybe you didn't want me anymore. I told him that wasn't true and that you're the best in the world. I even told him you'd definitely come today. I'm so glad you did." Matthew felt guilty for not being able to pick her up these past few days. "I would never not want you. Don't pay any attention to what the other kids say."

She wrapped her arms around his neck. "Dad, many kids in my class are scared that their fathers won't want them anymore. Like Nancy and Chansey-their dads have divorced their moms and don't want them." Matthew's heart ached. Although the divorces weren't his fault, he knew they still hurt the kids. He hugged her tightly and whispered, "If I ever leave you, I'd turn into a puppy. How about that?"

She shook her head. "I don't want you to be a puppy. Puppies are so sad and can't talk."

Matthew kissed her on the cheek before they headed back to the car. Once inside, Lorraine saw Silas sitting beside her and said, "Hi, Silas."

Silas was charmed by Lorraine's cuteness. He removed a small, emerald vial pendant from around his neck. "Lorraine, I have a gift for you."

She shook her head. "I don't want a gift. I'm a good girl and shouldn't take things from others."

Matthew was surprised. He recognized the pendant as an Emeldol vial, a symbol of the Gugleni Sect.noveldrama

Despite all the help Matthew had given Silas, Silas had never offered him such a gift. It was surprising that he would give it to Lorraine instead. Silas looked at Matthew with a resigned smile. "Say something."

Matthew smiled and said, "Lorraine, this is a special gift from Silas. Take it, and remember to call him Uncle Silas a few times."

She nodded and accepted the gift. "I won't call him Uncle Silas. It sounds too serious. I'll just call him Silas."

Silas burst into laughter. "Okay. You can call me 'Silas' then."

He had always been the butt of

jokes because of his name, so it was a pleasant surprise to see Lorraine being so sensible. He wanted to scoop her up and kiss her, but he held back, not wanting to scare her.

Matthew watched Silas and Lorraine chat happily and drove the car slowly. The ride was smooth, but it felt like it was crawling at a snail's pace.

Silas glanced at Matthew, surprised. Just earlier, Matthew had driven like a maniac, but now, with Lorraine in the car, he was driving as if he were handling a delicate crystal.

Was Matthew so devoted to his daughter? What should have been a 20-minute drive home stretched into 40 minutes.

As Matthew and Lorraine were about to step into the yard, he received a call from Rachel. "Hey, missing me already?"

Her voice was urgent on the other end. "Ms. Clark is at the office with a group of people. She demanded that I hand you over." Matthew shrugged it off. "Who does she think she is? Just ignore her."

From the moment he had met Sara, he had noticed she was bossy and self-centered. Plus, she treated everyone around her like they were her subordinates.
