Chapter 888
David staggered backward a little and plopped to the ground when he witnessed the scene. Then, Matthew turned around and locked onto David's panicked pair of eyes.
David was so scared that he yelled out, "Please don't kill me!"
Upon hearing that, Matthew stood stunned for a little. Then, he asked, "Why would I kill you?"
David was dumbfounded by his sudden question and only replied after a while, murmuring, "Don't you want the stone tablet? Don't worry. I promise I won't let anyone know about this. Really, I swear! I'll keep my mouth shut about this."
Matthew thought about it and said, "You don't have to keep this a secret because I'm going to call the police."
David became a little puzzled when he heard those words. "Why would you call the police?"
Matthew then slowly responded, "Well, the stone tablet is a national heritage, so this is a grave issue. I can't just ignore it and not call the police."
David's face turned pale as he listened to what Matthew said.
If the stone tablet was considered a national heritage, didn't it mean that he was involved in stealing a national heritage? After all, he was the one who dug up the stone tablet from Graceful Touch Church.
"How is this considered a national heritage?" David asked.
Matthew replied slowly, "How is it not? You've also seen how that Eastorian offered up to a hundred million dollars just to get his hands on it. Can't you determine its value just by its price alone?"
David was left feeling baffled, and he couldn't stop the fear that was overwhelming his entire body. If that stone tablet was truly a national heritage, that would mean his life was doomed.
Thinking about having to sit in prison while piling up his debt on his daughter made David fall into a bout of despair.
Seeing Matthew pull his phone out, David immediately dropped to the ground and begged, "Please don't call the police. Please! It wouldn't do you any good either- you killed two Eastorians!"noveldrama
But Matthew shook his head slightly. "I only killed them because they not only killed our people but also tried to steal one of our national heritages. Am I wrong for trying to protect our national heritage?"
Now that Matthew wouldn't budge, David could only voice out his worries, "I'm the one who's afraid of the police. I can't be thrown into prison, please. I have a daughter at home. Don't can't call the police, I beg of you. I'm willing to do anything you want, so please just don't call the police!"
Matthew nodded at his pleas. David had finally spoken the truth.
Then, Matthew said, "I'll be known as
a hero for protecting our national heritage if call the police. Who knows? might even be awarded a certificate for it. What can you do to make up for the honor I'm about to lose if I don't call the police?"
Having heard his reply, David came up with something in a hurry. "I can buy you a certificate and give you a banner. You can state your conditions as long as you don't call the police."
Matthew thought it was finally time to drop the act and threw out a request, "You don't have to do those things. Just clear up these bodies first."
David pointed at himself and asked, "You want me to take care of the corpses?"
All his life, David had never even killed a chicken, let alone a person. Matthew was making things difficult for him by asking him to clean up the corpses now.
Just then, Matthew fished his phone out again and said, "I think I'll just call the police. They'll clean up the corpses after they arrive."
At once, David shouted hurriedly, "I'll do it! I'll take care of the corpses. I'll clean them up right now."
Right after he said that, David stared at the three corpses anxiously as he thought about how he should get rid of them.
Matthew stood by the side and
waited for David to finish the job. Of
course, it wasn't as if he really
wanted David to clear up the
corpses. He was just afraid that David would let word slip up that he had gone around and killed people.
If the police were to get involved and start investigating, it would no doubt put Matthew in big trouble, considering his criminal record as well. Then, he would have to suffer yet again even when nothing went wrong in the first place.
That was why Matthew wanted to impose the idea that David would be the first to get into trouble if he spilled the beans.
After David paced around the three corpses for a long while, he finally stopped and said, "I've got an idea."
Matthew hummed in reply and said, "Get on with it, then. You'll be dead meat if word of this issue gets out there."
David had a solemn expression as he replied, "I know."
Matthew then pointed at the stone tablet on the floor. "Bring this down for me too."
David nodded dazedly and said, "Alright. I'll carry it down for you."
What do you think?
