The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus)

Chapter 638 A Small Act That Shawn Remembered for Years

Natalie exhaled softly and explained the whole situation to Marcus. Once she was done, Marcus glanced at Shawn in disbelief. "It's just a small thing, but you

remembered it for so many years?"

"It's not a small thing," Shawn emphasized. "Mr. Holden, this isn't a small thing to me. At that time, my life felt utterly hopeless.

"I even thought I should let them beat me to death and be done with it. But then, Ms. Walker appeared out of nowhere and saved me."

Lincoln furrowed his brow and scolded him. "Shawn, I think you're out of your mind. If you liked her back then, why didn't you go after her? Now that Natalie is married, you're pulling this stunt? If you're not insane, then what is? Do you think you look romantic right now? To me, you're pathetic."

Lincoln was truly furious. Shawn had met Natalie so long ago, so why didn't he take the chance? If he had failed to seize the moment back then, what was he doing now that Natalie's married?

If this wasn't considered sabotage, what is?"

Shawn's face was filled with bitterness. Of course, he had thought about it back then, but given his family situation and circumstances at that time, he simply didn't dare.

He hadn't even been sure if he and his mother would survive, so how could he have had the courage to pursue Natalie, let alone become friends with her?

He had nothing in his youth, not even his dignity. Even when a seed of admiration had sprouted, he hadn't dared to take a step forward.

Now, hearing Lincoln's scolding, Shawn just lowered his head and remained silent. He felt so embarrassed that he didn't even dare lift his head to meet Natalie's gaze. Yet, he had fully engraved the image of her face in his mind.

This image stayed engraved for years.

Later on, after leaving Balford and returning to Dithoria, he never got the chance to seek out the girl who had saved him.

He had spent some time investigating, only to learn that the girl who saved him was the daughter of the Langley family in Amberton.

At that time, Shawn had nothing. Upon discovering that Natalie was from a prestigious family, he had even less courage to approach her.

Shawn lifted the glass before him and downed the entire drink. "Yes, I was wrong."

"You sure were." Lincoln didn't hold back. "Your mistake was not fighting for her when you had the chance. Now that it's too late, you should never have entertained those thoughts again."

Shawn nodded. "Yes, I was wrong. I'm sorry."

His eyes reddened, and he didn't even dare look at Natalie.

It was just a small incident; Natalie didn't even remember him or see his face clearly, but he remembered her for many years.

After learning Natalie's identity, he hadn't dared to take the next step. He had dragged it out, and by the time he had a chance to meet her again, he still couldn't bring himself to say anything.

Because by then, she had Marcus by her side. Furthermore, she was no longer the daughter of the Langley family, but the true heiress of the Walker family.

And more importantly, she was his boss' sister.

The overwhelming disparity in their background and status made Shawn feel even more unworthy.

As for how Celeste knew about all this, it was because one night, during a celebratory party, he had gotten drunk and confided in her.

Celeste had someone she had liked for years, so she understood him deeply. She had encouraged Shawn many times, urging him to be brave and pursue Natalie.

But he hadn't dared.

Now, this was his last chance, but he realized how utterly despicable he seemed. "It's ridiculous, isn't it?" Shawn's eyes reddened. "Even I find it ridiculous."

He continued, "Ms. Walker, I wish you happiness. What happened today was my fault. I begged Celested to bring me here.

"I thought of mustering my courage just this once. It would've been my first and last chance to tell you how last much I've admired and appreciated you all these years. But now that things have turned into such a mess, I'm sorry. I truly am."

Shawn stood up to express his apology to Natalie.

Turning to Marcus, he said, "Mr. Holden, it's not my intention to sabotage your relationship. I swear. I just thought if I didn't say it now, I might never get another chance."

"But you didn't expect me to be here, did you?" Marcus finally spoke, his gaze locking onto Shawn. He smirked and added, "Mr. Haines, why don't you be a groomsman at my wedding?"

"What?" Shawn was stunned. It took him a while to process his thoughts before replying, "Mr. Holden, are you really saying you want me to be your groomsman?"

"Yes." Marcus leaned back against the couch. "My wife saved your life, and she's incredibly charismatic. That's why you can't forget her even after all these years. I can't blame you for that. After all, she's exceptional."

Natalie was dumbfounded.

Marcus turned to her and gently took her hand. "Sweetheart, you're so kind and beautiful. It's not surprising that Mr. Haines fell for you just because you once saved him. I'm proud of you."

"Marcus, you've lost your damn mind," Lincoln snapped. "Stop flaunting your love here-do it at home.

"Shawn, you're starting filming tomorrow. Do not speak a word about what happened tonight. I already have the candidates for the groomsmen. You stay out of this."

Lincoln stood up. "Shawn, I'll let go just this once. If you ever overstep your boundaries again, don't blame me for being ruthless."

He then looked at Marcus, "I'll handle this. Do you have any objections?"

Marcus shook his head. Since Lincoln had spoken, even if Marcus had objections, he could only swallow them.

"Marcus, go home on your own. I'm taking Natalie back with me," Lincoln said.

"That's not happening." Marcus refused without hesitation. "Lincoln, Natalie is coming with me. I won't let her leave my side."

"Nat, who are you going home with? Marcus or me?" Lincoln looked at Natalie, giving her the choice.

Natalie just kept quiet.

"Nat, pick me, okay?" Marcus' voice suddenly turned husky. His gaze toward Natalie even carried a hint of nervousness and vulnerability. "Nat, you know I haven't been in the best mental state lately." '

Lincoln let out a sharp laugh. "You're not in the right mental state? Perfect. Hector

is here. Let him take a look at you. Hector, come here."noveldrama

Hector stood up. He thought the situation was absurd. Marcus was so desperate

to keep Natalie by his side that he was even spouting nonsense.

"Marcus, come here. Let me take a look at you. Or better yet, why don't Natalie give you an acupuncture treatment instead?"

Marcus turned to Natalie. "Sweetheart."

Natalie massaged her temples and sighed. "Lincoln, Mason, I'll take Marcus home

with me, alright?"

On one side was her brother, and on the other, her husband. How could she possibly choose?
