The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Chapter 71

By the time Evelyn rushed to the sanatorium, Lucas was standing in the hallway, smoking. He had a tall figure, but he looked cold and unsympathetic.

Evelyn's heart was pounding. Her expression was not too pleasant.

Lucas was a scheming person, but he always only struck where it hurt. He was simply trying to use Leonard to threaten Evelyn to compromise.

Evelyn walked up to Lucas and asked, "Can we talk?"

Lucas turned around slowly and looked at her. "What are you nervous about?" His question left Evelyn choked.

She knew things were different at that moment. She had no choice but to soften her tone and say, "The manor was what Granny got when she got married. She and my grandfather lived in it for her whole life. That's the most important thing to her. Can you give up..."

She probably had run over as she was still gasping for air as she spoke.

Lucas looked at her indifferently and said, "Her mother likes that place very much."

It seemed like he was rejecting Evelyn.

Did that mean that Lucas was willing to let Evelyn and Deborah lose the homenoveldrama

they had spent their whole lives in just to make Tiffany's mother happy?

Evelyn once wanted Lucas to come and visit Leonard and Deborah. However, her begging did not work at all.

He came on his own this time, but it was for Tiffany's sake.

How ironic...

Evelyn let out a wry smile in her head, but she said in an incredibly steady voice, "Lucas, I know you always get what you want, but you can't have it this time. Granny is disgusted by Tiffany's mother. If she finds out that the buyer is Millie, she won't be able to take it. Can you just do me a favor since we're... a married couple?"

That was because Evelyn knew very well that Lucas would have a million other means to get what he wanted even if she disagreed. She could not afford to gamble. Because of that, she was practically pleading with him.

This was the first time she appeared in such a vulnerable state in front of him after all these years.

Lucas looked askance at her for a whole, deep in thought. He put out his cigarette and looked at her with one hand in his pocket. "It's alright if you don't want to sell it."

Evelyn looked at him, stunned. She was shocked by his mercifulness.

However, Lucas asked, "Do you have something to do with the incident with Mr. Stewart?"

It finally hit Evelyn.

Lucas was not being merciful at all. He was just getting the sale of Deborah's manor involved because of what happened on Donald's end. He just wanted to buy Deborah's manor to watch Evelyn panic. He wanted to make her swallow her pride and beg him.

Was he taking revenge for Tiffany? Did he think Evelyn was the reason his outstanding Tiffany was not chosen?

No matter what, he was on Tiffany's side at the end of the day.

Evelyn calmed herself down and looked right at him. "No. The things between her and I are our personal business. Mr. Stewart is part of the government. There's no way he'd be manipulated by me into making this big decision."

Lucas clearly knew that very well. He just made this fuss because he felt Tiffany had been wronged. He was just intimidating Evelyn to protect Tiffany.

"That's true." Lucas looked carefully at her reddened eyes and asked, "Can you tell me if there are other experts other than Sebastian in Flying Seal Group?"

Evelyn frowned. She was shocked by how sharp Lucas was.

"All the technicians in Flying Seal Group are graduate students from elite universities," she replied calmly.

No matter how outstanding Tiffany was, she was not the only one in the world.

Lucas understood what Evelyn implied.

Surprisingly, he did not get angry. He just smirked mysteriously and was quite icy. Then, he looked at his watch and said, "Mhm. Got it."

After a pause, he looked at her and asked, "Do you need me to give you a lift home?"

Evelyn knew he was asking out of courtesy and did not mean it. "No, thanks," she replied.

"Alright." Lucas left without hesitation.

Evelyn looked at his tall and distinguished back. She could not quite figure out his stance.

However, regardless of whether Lucas would pull any tricks, Evelyn understood a fact.

A family like Tiffany's still could not afford a manor worth 20 million dollars. In the end, Lucas would be the one to pay for Tiffany. Lucas was willing to give Tiffany his heart and soul and his money...

However, in all these years Evelyn was married to him, all she got was her working hard all day and all night.

As for Millie, she certainly had her heart set on Deborah's manor.

She simply wanted to regain her dignity at the place where she once felt weak and inferior. She wanted to tell the Reed family that the tables had turned.

Leonard called and asked if Lucas had left.

Evelyn noticed that Lucas had not told Leonard the reason they were getting a divorce. He had not tried to talk Leonard into selling Deborah's manor either. Evelyn let out a sigh of relief and said, "He left. You should get some rest, Uncle." "Alright. Have a safe trip home, the two of you," said Leonard.
