Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Evelyn's POV
My eyes widen in surprise as she walks in without bothering to ask for permission, her waist swings
with her, thanks to the six inches heels she is wearing. A tight burgundy dress is hugging her body
leaving her skinny legs full on display while her shiny red hair is bobbing with each step and though
she's here, it seems like she's walking on the ramp. When her eyes meet mine, she stops and slowly
puts off the sunglasses of her eyes. She scowls at me as her eyes go up and down my sitting frame as
if she's trying to recall something. Definitely I'm not making a good impression with my disheveled cloth
and hair sitting on the couch of billionaire Ethan Jones' apartment. I just wish this girl knows me and
doesn't think I'm some kind of fling.
I finally avert my eyes from her and look at Ethan who is standing in the same place with wide eyes,
still in shock. He looks at me, then Karla and then me again as an emotion shows up in his eyes that I
never witnessed before.
Fear.
These days I was so overwhelmed with happiness that I almost forgot that maybe all this would end
one day. This new, good and sweet side of Ethan made me forget about everything that he was before.
Girls were simply some kind of things he used to play with. He was never made for a relationship. Now
that he confessed to me and has been acting differently, does that mean he has fully changed?
I forgot everything. I gave in to him. But I just can't be like this. I have to be careful if I don't want to end
up with a broken heart.
I get off of the couch as I pull the hem of my white frock down and look directly in her hazel eyes that
are boring into mine.
"You? Umm, I … do I know you?" She forms her words pointing her finger at me.
Well, who the fuck does she think she is? This is Ethan's house and she's acting like it's hers. It's none
of her business who I am. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
She looks back at Ethan as she asks, "Ethan, who is she? What is she doing here?"
Seriously? Is she his girlfriend that she's interrogating him? Well, she was but not anymore. She lost all
rights when the word ex was put before her name.
Instantly, his face hardens and he glares at her, "I should ask you that. What the hell do you think you
are doing here? How dare you come into my house without my permission?" He barks at her.
"Oh Ethan! Calm down babe."
Babe?
She makes her way towards Ethan with a seductive smile on her face, ignoring the daggers Ethan was
showering. When she stops in front of him, she raises her hand and places it on his chest but soon it's
slapped away from him.
She pouts dramatically, "Owww! Why are you being like this? It's not like you don't like me here." She
smirks.
"Well, for your information, if anyone in this world likes you, it sure as hell that their brain has been fed
up with disgusting worms since they can like a whiny hag like you. " He roars in utter disgust but that
bitch doesn't even budge on hearing such harsh words.
"Oh really darling? But you know what you seemed to like this same whiny hag a lot even some days
ago that you needed me...to keep your bed warm every night, remember?" She whispers, her eyes
gleaming in evilness.
I literally flinch at her nasty choice of words and once again fear flashes on Ethan's face as he looks at
me. But he covers it up quickly and turns to Karla.
"Oh sweetheart! Sorry for hurting you but the truth is if you ever think I liked you, then you really lack
common sense. I used you and then I got really bored so I threw you away. Understood?" He grits,
pure hatred in his eyes.
She chuckles slowly and runs her index finger down her forehead before saying, "What do you think
Ethan? Since I stepped in your life once, it's that easy to throw me away, huh?"
Ethan blows out a breath trying to gain some control, "Listen, Karla. I don't have time for hearing your
bullshit. Either say why you're here or I'll ask the guards to throw you out."
"Nah, you're so rude." She pouts, "I was just missing you honey. So I thought about giving you a visit."
She says and suddenly turns to me, "But I didn't know you already had someone here." She raises her
eyebrows at me.
I see Ethan's jaw clenching as he immediately grabs her arm and yanks her back causing her to gasp,
"Before your dirty mind thinks something bad about her, I would like to tell you her identity and I'm sure
after you know who she is, you will get a shock." Ethan says, gritting and at last fear shows up in her
eyes.
"Who is she?"
"She's the only heiress of the Grayson company, Miss Evelyn Gray."
As soon as he utters those words, her eyes widen in shock and her neck shoots back at me. Ethan lets
go of her hand harshly that she needs to compose herself not to fall. She keeps staring at me for a
pretty few seconds before opening her mouth.
"Ma'am, I'm sorry. I haven't seen you before so I didn't..."
I stop her, raising my hand.
"Cut the act and tell us why you are here." I don't know what made me so rude but the fact is that I
don't like her at all and I just can't like her.
She looks between me and Ethan with an upset face before opening her mouth, "I... actually I came
to..."
She gets cut off by Ethan,
"Got it Karla. You don't have any valid reason. Or maybe it's just that you got a bit of free time and
couldn't think what you can do to pass the time so you came here. But oops I'm busy. And I will highly
appreciate it if you leave now." He says angrily and soon Karla's face turns into a frown.
"Why Ethan? Now you just want me to leave because you got someone else, huh? And just a few days
ago, you kissed me in the mall." She bites out.
"Well, that was nothing. If you thought that kissing you meant we still had something between us, then
you were wrong. We didn't have and we won't ever."
Karla steps back and stands face to face Ethan as she bobs her head angrily, "What do you think of
me, Ethan? I'm that easy to get rid of. No, I'm not. I will see...you." She looks from him to me as she
says the last word.
She then puts on the sunglasses again and turning around, she gets out of the apartment, her hills
clapping against the floor.
After she's out of sight, Ethan looks at me and makes his way towards me, his face pale. I don't know
why but I feel a rush of anger inside me.
He stands in front of me and scrutinizes my face, I try to look as neutral as possible.
"Evelyn, I..." I cut him off.
"You don't have to say anything, Ethan. It's your life and everything is your choice. You don't owe me
an explanation." I say coldly and without giving another glance, I head back to my room and close the
door behind me.
The rest of the day passes by me staying inside the room. I decide not to go outside and Ethan doesn't
come to call me either.
My head feels like a mess. I walk back and forth in the room as my mind wanders through the memory
lane. Ethan kissed this girl in the mall and she was also his ex. Now she is back in his life. And who
knows how many exes he had. Now even if I believe that Ethan is trying to change, will it work? Will his
playboy character change forever just for me?
When did my life get attached to him like this? I couldn't realize. Now all I know is him. He's turning into
my addiction slowly. And no one knows better than me that this addiction will have no cure.
I'm in a mess.
