Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 845

Chapter 845:

“Set things straight?” Hadley echoed faintly, her eyes drifting to the vacant hospital room doorway. She shook her head, a quiet sigh escaping her lips. “I could clear up the ectopic pregnancy matter, sure—but how do I account for the asset transfer?”

That was the irrefutable evidence of her plan to break away from him! Her shoulders slumped as she fiddled with the edge of her blanket. “What—should I sweet-talk him, go back to him, and keep playing the happy wife until I could finally conceive again?”

Her voice dripped with sarcasm, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. “You really think he’d ever trust me again?” No chance.

Even if they patched things up, Eric would always be watching her like a hawk.

She could already picture the measures he’d take to prevent her from ever leaving again.

Plus, after the surgery for the ectopic pregnancy, the doctor had made it clear that her body wasn’t suitable for conceiving again in the short term…

How was she supposed to handle that stretch of uncertainty?

“Elissa, I’m so tired,” Hadley murmured, easing herself onto the edge of the bed with a groan. “I don’t have the guts—or the energy—to face him anymore.”

Her eyes welled up as she thought of Joy.

“My poor Joy, I just want to spend more time with her now.” She owed Joy so much.

After being entangled with Eric for so long, Hadley was starting to think they were truly incompatible. Joy’s health wasn’t great, and then this second pregnancy had gone sideways.

As for the future, Hadley figured she’d put any big decisions on hold until she got her strength back.

Perhaps she’d return to beseech him once more, or maybe, in the intervening moments, a different possibility could emerge.

Alternatively, if all other paths were closed off, she still clung to one final recourse.

Following that eventful day, Hadley remained under medical care for a short while longer. On the fifth morning, the physician visited her bedside, delivering the welcome news that she was fit to leave. “Your healing after surgery has progressed well. Finish up the paperwork and take it easy at home.”

When the necessary documents were handed over, the doctor also provided a set of guidelines. “In essence, watch what you eat and get plenty of rest. Hold off on intimacy for the next three months, and if you’re thinking of conceiving again, give it at least six months.”

Hadley’s gaze dropped, her lashes quivering faintly as she murmured, “Got it. Thanks, doctor.”

“No need to thank me. It’s my job,” the doctor replied warmly.

Since Elissa’s blindness made navigation tricky, Hadley took charge, handling the discharge process and driving her back to Redmarsh first. Elissa, feeling a touch awkward, protested lightly, “You could’ve just called me a ride. The housekeeper could meet me when I get there.”

Hadley chuckled. “Do you think I’m that weak?”

She guided Elissa right to her apartment entrance. “The doctor cleared me—I’m okay now. Thanks for keeping me company at the hospital these last few days. Head inside and rest. I won’t come in.”

After days confined to a hospital bed, Hadley ached to see Joy again.

“You go on in. I’ll head out once you’re settled.”

“Fine, I’m off then!” Elissa called out as she stepped inside.
