Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 64

Chapter 64

"I used to think I was a long-lasting lover, like I would love someone for a lifetime, but now I realize..." Izabella chuckled, "loving someone can get tiring."

Why did she like Brett? She once saw a statement on the Internet.

When you like someone, you think they have a halo all over their body. You can't help but get close to them, like a moth to a flame. But if they never respond to you, over time you'll feel that light slowly dim, becoming a speck of dust in the universe.

You try to remember what it was like when they were glowing, but you can't. Then you realize that it was just the light in your eyes when you first saw them.

And the light in her eyes was Brett, who carried her home sixteen years ago.

It's just that this light has stayed in her eyes for too long.

"Why did you make him fall in love with you then? Haven’t you figured it out after four years? Brett is cold-blooded. He will never like you in his lifetime. Stop wasting your time on him."

Presley's words were harsh on the ears.

"It's not a waste of time. I don't have much time left anyway. I just want to take a gamble, bet that he'll fall in love with me, bet that he'll sleepless after my death, filled with regret." She said this firmly, both as a reminder to Presley and to herself. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

"What if you lose the bet?" Presley still disagreed.

Izabella's eyes were filled with madness, "If I lose, I just die. I won't lose anything. But if I win, I'll be thrilled."

Presley's face stiffened, a chill rising from his chest and spreading throughout his body. At that moment, Izabella seemed like a different person. He stared at her, afraid that she would vanish if he looked away.

Izabella softened her icy gaze, "There's no better revenge than this, disappearing just when he falls in love with me."

Once, she had wanted Brett to love her because of feelings, but now it was for revenge. Once a person harbors hatred, they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals and may use anything at their disposal.

She had already spent so many years, so what's one year more? Some might say she's stupid or foolish, wasting half her life on a single man.

But who can really put themselves in her shoes? She has only a little more than a year left, suffering from cancer, enduring unbearable pain every day, and relying on medication to survive.

As the illness progresses, it will only worsen, her stomach entirely covered in cancer cells. Eventually, she won't be able to eat or sleep, vomiting blood day and night, agony occupying her every nerve, perhaps taking away even her willpower to think or seek revenge.

Brett had destroyed her faith, and she had to fight him to the end, to give back all the pain he had inflicted upon her.

She had nothing now, only this extreme method to seek revenge on Brett.

The odds of winning the bet were low, but as long as Brett cared about her a little more, she would die without regrets.

Presley understood Izabella's desire for revenge, but he couldn't approve of it. He hoped that Izabella would prioritize her health and life over hatred.

He understood her resentment and desire to take revenge on Brett, but why couldn't she do that by living well and becoming happier?

If Izabella obediently underwent chemotherapy and took medication, her time wouldn't be as limited as it is now.

Now she has staked everything on a scumbag. Was it...really worth it?

"Izabella, is it worth it?"

"For me now, yes. At least I can live a more meaningful life instead of just waiting to die." Izabella smiled, her beauty shining like a fleeting sunbeam amid the cold snow. It could vanish with a gust of wind.

Sooner or later, her illness will be exposed. Since it had to be, why not make it meaningful in the process, letting a heartless man cry for her? She wouldn't regret it.

Although Izabella was smiling, her eyes were somber and lifeless.

Izabella asked, "What time is it now?"

Presley took out his phone to check, "It's 1:30."

Half an hour had passed. Brett should be coming soon.

"You'd better go. Brett will be here soon."

Presley looked at her worriedly. Izabella nudged him, a gesture reminiscent of their childhood closeness.

"Go ahead. I'll be fine. Just think of it as keeping me from being misunderstood by Brett."

Presley clenched his teeth. "Alright, I'll go. Take care of yourself. If anything happens, call me. I'll risk my life to get you out."

Izabella agreed: "Okay."

Presley took one last look at Izabella and turned to leave.

Izabella watched him go, her vision blurring. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the bright sunshine outside.

R City was finally about to enter summer.
