Chapter 70: Conquer the Ocean City
Chapter 70: Conquer the Ocean City
Absalom locked his eyes on Maxwell’s back and his suspicions slowly arose. He felt like he had met
Maxwell somewhere before yet he could not recall. Maxwell was sitting before him and was
encountered by Absalom’s powerful aura as indestructible as a giant mountain. He looked at Absalom
with a level gaze. Absalom was involved in politics and had a high position and it was no wonder he
seemed oppressive. Yet that seemed to not exist for Maxwell. “May I know why did you ask that all of a
sudden?” He smiled lightly.
“Greta is my granddaughter. Although because of something, we’re drifted apart from each other, but I
have seen her as my child, and I don’t allow a man whose background is unclear to stay beside her.”
Absalom spoke blandly. Maxwell replied with thoughts. “You’re right.”
“Therefore, although you’re introduced by my friend, and I know you have an unusual identity…I still
need to be assured that you do her no harm,” Absalom said. He took the teapot gently and poured two
cups of tea. Maxwell smiled. “Why didn’t you tell me these earlier?”
Absalom fell into silence. As a matter of fact, Derrick had asked him to call for brilliant males to find the
Sandoval family a son-in-law back then, and one of his close friends who was also involved in politics
had recommended Maxwell, a mercenary who had just returned from overseas. He did not think of it
further and instantly agreed. Yet who knows the reason Derrick and Greta did that was because of the
marriage agreement with Andreas, and as he asked his men to investigate Maxwell’s background
shortly after Greta’s marriage, it turned out that they had found nothing!
The men sent by him were all brightest elites in terms of investigation, in addition to his wide network,
even if it was a housefly, he was able to find out where was it hatched. Yet now, regarding Maxwell’s
past experience or any other information were a complete blank! Without the past nor the future, it
seemed that Maxwell never existed in this world, and there was no evidence to prove his existence.
Absalom gazed at Maxwell. Starting from that moment, Maxwell’s identity had been a great mystery.
“According to my knowledge, with your strength, you don’t need to wait for as long as three months to
do something to my granddaughter…Yet I still don’t understand why would you deign to stay by my
daughter’s side without leaving her an inch…” he spoke. He knew nothing about Maxwell but he
believed his best friend would not harm him.
“Are you aware of the assassination happened in front of the Sandoval Tower a while ago?” Maxwell
asked with a deep voice. “Yes, I am.” Absalom nodded. “Is there any need for me to send someone to
investigate that?”
“No.” Maxwell shook his head as he had already done so, yet what he got from the investigation was
only the clue that the hirer came from Beijing. For Absalom, it would be much more impossible to get
any more useful information. “A lot of people want to take your granddaughter’s life, that
assassination…was just one of the ways,” he said profoundly. Absalom shuddered. He looked towards
Maxwell and shot him a stern look. “Why?”
“The port and the airport of the Sandoval Group, get it?” Maxwell stood up. Seeing Absalom still
pondering, he said blandly, “Danger is everywhere around your granddaughter, even some forces from
the overseas are ready to make a move. I suppose no one told you about these before? It doesn’t
matter who I am…What’s important is your granddaughter is now in danger.” His voice was calm. He
turned around and headed towards the exit.
“Wait.” Absalom lifted his head and said with a serious look, “If Greta is alright, I’ll give you huge reward
as a token of gratitude.” Maxwell stopped and smiled. “No thanks, I’m just here to return a favor.” As he
finished, Absalom shot him a glance and stared at his back with a thoughtful look. “Favor…” He
frowned and pondered, yet he could not recall the favor Maxwell owed him no matter how.
His eyes fell onto Maxwell’s back and suddenly, the familiar contour made his memory retreated to a
few years back. He shuddered and there was a drastic change in his expression. He seemed to have
remembered something and his look towards Maxwell’s back was full of shock. “How could that be
possible…you look so much alike…too alike…” His hand which was holding the teacup trembled as he
had recalled someone who had had a similar back!
That person was an unprecedented legend that could even shake the dark realm of the West from
overseas. He had instilled fear and horror among the country leaders and countless international
warlords. Due to a one time coincident back then, Absalom had made an acquaintance with him and he
had left him an extremely deep impression. Yet the one before him was actually the live-in son-in-law of
the Sandoval family, and there was a vast difference between him and the horrifying character which
could use any deadly trick. No one would have imagined him to the one due to the huge difference.
As Absalom looked towards Maxwell once again, Maxwell had disappeared from his line of sight and
he was nowhere to be found. Absalom took a deep breath and slowly heaved a sigh, trying to calm
himself down. His eyesight must have failed. That great person was superior, how would he be willing
to swallow his pride and get down from his throne? His eyesight must have failed with age. He had
seen the one’s face with his own eyes and they were not the same person at all.
No matter how great was Greta, she was only an underweight character that was admired and lauded
in this small city, whereas that person was a legend renowned overseas. When Absalom regained his
mind, he noticed he was sweating hard and his shirt was drenched. His heart plummeted. After all
these years roaming in politics, he had witnessed every unusual scene and had already developed a
calm and firm attitude. Yet he had actually become that nervous just now.
As Maxwell had left the conference room for just a while, Alison and Cecilia rushed inside and asked
him, “Dad, what did you talk to him just now? You’re being mysterious…”
“I just asked him where he got the prescription.” Absalom spoke blandly and did not tell the truth. “What
did he say?” Andreas asked with a frigid look. “Same as what he had said before, an old Chinese
doctor told him.” Absalom nodded. “See, I told you he doesn’t know medication. He was just being
lucky to be able to grab the opportunity.” Alison snorted. “Fortune favors fools. He had a good luck, but
he’ll run out of it next time,” Cecilia said, “Lennon hasn’t thanked him in person yet. Until then, he’ll
make a fool of himself and Lennon would certainly detest a person who pretends to be knowledgeable.”
A series of clickety-clacking sounds of high heels stepping on the ground was suddenly heard from
outside the conference room and a tall figure appeared at the entrance followed after that. The one
who had a pale face and was wearing a uniform and an alluring skirt was no other than the secretary,
Melissa Lloyd. “If anyone needs it, President Sandoval lets me take all of you to have a look around the
company building.” While wearing a sweet smile, her large breasts moved up and down together with
her fast and deep breathing.
“Certainly. Since Andreas needs to take charge of the Sandoval’s in the future anyway, it’s better to let
him familiarize with the environment first,” Alison said with a smile and Melissa’s face froze. Take
charge of the Sandoval’s? She did not understand. Is that what a relative of President Sandoval should
say?
“It’s okay to have a look though.” Andreas nodded. His eyes were deep and calm. He took one step
forward and was surrounded by a powerful unapproachable aura. Being the Young Master Sandoval of
Beijing, the natural arrogance he carried was completely displayed. He was born a king and the main
aim for him to come to the Ocean City was to control the Sandoval’s and took charge of the port and
airport of the Ocean City. He wanted to take down Greta at first as a stepping stone to get hold of the
Sandoval’s, yet he did not expect Greta was reluctant to do that and rejected his offer. Therefore he
could only conquer Greta one step at a time before being able to conquer the Ocean City! NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Meanwhile, Maxwell pushed open the office door and stepped inside the office. He saw Greta sitting
inside the president office and was staring at him with cold eyes. Maxwell was startled at first, followed
by a sense of guilt. He let out a wry smile and asked, “Is there anything I can do for you? President
Sandoval.”
“Sit down.” Greta crossed her arms before her chest and shot him an icy look. She asked out of the
blue when Maxwell had settled into the couch, “So do you know medication or not?”
“I…know a little.” He smiled flatteringly. “An illness that was not well-diagnosed by so many
professional doctors was actually cured by a random prescription you gave. Could you possibly be that
amazing with just a little medical knowledge?” Greta sneered and wore a contempt smile. “When I was
playing chess with an old Chinese doctor at a park back then, he met a patient and I was watching him
when he prescribed the medicine. He said the prescription was passed down for generations…
therefore I memorized it, since I have a good memory.” Maxwell explained.
“Thank god your luck was good. If that person was dead because of your treatment, the Sandoval
family would be doomed!” Greta was lazy to go after it any longer and she heaved a sigh of relief, her
heart seemed to be still fluttering with fear. “Does that person have a very big influence?” Maxwell was
befuddled and seemed to not know anything at all. “Certainly. You could never imagine his identity.”
Fear crawled up Greta’s face. “Luckily you’ve saved him, not harmed him.”
“Then I suppose it might benefit you to promote yourself in the Sandoval family?” Maxwell said. Greta
nodded, and suddenly thought of something, she looked towards him and asked, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing. I just want to help you to gain status and dignity in the family so you won’t get humiliated and
teased ever again.” Maxwell said with a composed and serious look, making Greta’s mind slightly
drifted off. At that moment, even she did not realize it, her heart had leapt and it was the first time
Maxwell’s words had moved her, even brought some tears to her eyes.
Maxwell was the first to be willing to help her that way in her life. The Sandoval family had bullied her
and Derrick for twenty more years, and no one had ever spoken up for her and her father. Yet now, a
live-in son-in-law that was greatly disdained had actually stood out to defend for her!
