What Separates Me and You

Chapter 264

Chapter 264

Chapter 264 He Doesn’t Care About Josephine at All

Robert quickly had his staff welcome the man into the mansion.

Josephine turned her head around to look at the man who had just entered. She couldn’t help but look shocked.

Quintin Fowler was actually the one visiting the mansion.

A look of delight appeared on Quintin’s face the moment he saw Josephine. He knew that he had come to the right place.

he

His friend was originally the one who was supposed to attend the meeting. However, decided to skip it after hearing that the woman he would be meeting was a mute who was adopted by that particular family. That wasn’t even the worst of it; it turns out she had already been married once. Quintin’s friend couldn’t help but complain about the woman, eventually concluding that he didn’t want to meet her at all.

Quintin happened to be around when he overheard his friend’s complaints. Considering the woman was mute and had been adopted by her current family, Josephine was the only person

he could think of who matched those criteria.

Quintin asked his friend who the woman was to ensure he got the right person. However, that friend didn’t know her name. All he knew was that she was a part of the Alvarez family.

Upon hearing the response, Quintin was confident that the woman was Josephine. Hence, he took the initiative to attend the meeting in his friend’s stead. As expected, the woman who was about to be

matchmade to his friend happened to be Josephine.

“Hello there, sir. I’m Quintin Fowler. My father is Damian Fowler. You should know who he is, right?”

Robert was surprised after hearing Quintin’s self-introduction. He clearly remembered that the family he had gotten in contact with was the Osborne family. How on earth did it become the Fowler family?

Then again, it wasn’t important. His main purpose was to threaten Lewis, who ultimately showed no concern about the situation. Hence, his only option was to marry Josephine off for

real.

On the other hand, who she would marry wasn’t significant.

Robert eyed Quintin up and down before nodding in response. “I’ve heard of him. Didn’t your father come along?”

Stunned, Quintin quickly forced a smile. “He’s currently on a business trip in another city. My parents aren’t home at the moment, but I have the authority to make the final decision myself.

Robert recalled the bits of information he had heard about the Fowler family. That family built its foundation on top of the entertainment industry, so it had no business affiliations with the Alvarez family. One could say that the families didn’t have a reason to get affiliated with each

other.

Then again, it fitted Robert’s needs. He was worried that if the Fowler family could help the Alvarez family out in any way, Lewis would manipulate it into doing his bidding

Robert’s satisfaction grew as he continued studying Quintin. He quickly stood up while gesturing for the latter to sit. “Please sit down.”

Quintin looked at the spot next to Josephine before walking over and sitting down there. Then, he snuck a shy look in her direction.

Josephine pursed her lips and averted her gaze, casting it down towards her feet.

She didn’t know if she should count her blessings or lament at her misfortune that Robert wanted her to marry Quintin out of all people.

Robert pointed out, “You seem quite young, Mr. Quintin. How old are you?”

Quintin quickly replied, “I may seem young, but I’m already 25 years old. I apologize for looking like this; I forgot to change into proper clothes as I was in a hurry this morning.”

He was still clad in a casual outfit at the moment, hence looking like a university student. If he were to wear a formal suit, he’d definitely look a lot more mature.

Quintin was worried that Robert might develop a negative impression of him. In fact, there was a possibility that Robert would be reluctant to marry Josephine off because of that.

However, Robert didn’t comment on that. Instead, he asked, “Do you know about Josie’s

situation?”

The young man glanced at the woman next to him before nodding. “Yes, I do.”

It was Robert’s turn to be surprised. “You do?”

He couldn’t believe Quintin would still come to the meeting despite knowing about Josephine’s situation. Was he nuts?

Naturally, Robert didn’t reveal such an expression on his face. A fatherly smile remained perched on his lips as he continued, “Then I’ll skip the introductions since you know all about her. Are you sure you

can make the ultimate decision yourself, Mr. Quintin?”

Quintin looked slightly nervous. “It depends on what you ask of me.”

If all he needed to do was make it official by getting a marriage license at the city hall, he could call the shots on that. However, all of his cards were frozen now, not to mention he had blocked his parents’ phone numbers. It’d be quite difficult for him if Robert were to ask him to plan a wedding ceremony.

Then again, Quintin could always ask his older brother for help. The young man wouldn’t know what to do if Robert insisted on requesting a ridiculous amount of wedding gifts.

There was no way he could ask Damian for help.

Meanwhile, Robert kept studying Quintin’s face. He could see through one’s true intentions, seeing as he had already lived for many years.

Based on his observations, it was clear that Quintin really wanted to marry Josephine.

“I don’t have any requests. It all depends on Josie’s answer. Now that I’ve grown old, all I want is for her to have a happy ending. She has been a part of the Alvarez family for so long. I’ve grown to love her as my own daughter.”

Robert’s statement was flawless. He sounded as though he was doing everything for Josephine’s own good when the truth was that he merely wanted to piss Lewis off by marrying

her off.

Since he couldn’t threaten his own son, he might as well anger him.

Quintin couldn’t help but feel delighted upon hearing Robert’s response. He snuck another glance at Josephine before asking her in a low tone, “What’s your answer, Josephine?”

Josephine raised her head, quickly detecting the eagerness and the suppressed delight in Quintin’s eyes. She pursed her lips, not knowing how to respond.

She was a homeless person now. It was impossible for her to continue living with Lewis after getting divorced from him.

Besides, there was no way for her to continue living in Alvarez Manor as the adopted daughter. There was nowhere she could turn to now.

It seemed like no one wanted her at all.

What else could she say at this point?

The young woman could do nothing other than follow Robert’s orders.

If she didn’t agree to this proposition, she would never be able to leave Alvarez Manor.

The luckiest thing that happened to her so far was the fact that she would be getting married

to Quintin.

Everyone was waiting for Josephine’s response, yet she remained silent without the intention of giving them her opinion.

She was like a marionette controlled by the strings. When she lived in Styx Mansion, Lewis got to manipulate her all he wanted. Now that she was in Alvarez Manor, Robert took over the task happily. Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

Meanwhile, Nancy stood behind the banister while listening to the conversation drifting from

below her feet, suspicion already surging from her heart.

She had no idea what Robert was scheming right now. Was he planning on taking her side?

Then again, the idea of marrying Josephine off instead of forcing Lewis to marry someone else never occurred to Nancy in the first place. That way, Lewis would still be forced to marry again. despite his reluctance.

What surprised the older woman the most was the fact that Lewis never showed up. It was definitely not his style; he was the type to fight back with every ounce of power he had.

Nancy found it more and more difficult to predict her son’s antics.

Was it possible that he simply didn’t care about Josephine? Could all of Lewis’s past actions have been a significant act of rebellion against Nancy?

The housekeeper standing next to Nancy started comforting her. “Things are proceeding well, Mrs. Alvarez. Now that the mute is getting married to someone else, Master Lewis won’t fight with you anymore.”

Nancy’s lips curled into a smug smile upon hearing those words.

“That is definitely the best outcome,” Nancy thought to herself.

Back in the living room, Robert waited for a while before finally speaking up. “Since both of you have no objections, then we’ll proceed with this marriage. Do you have any plans later, Mr. Quintin? Why don’t you marry Josephine right away at the city hall if you’re free for the day?”

Quintin was utterly surprised by that suggestion. He could only stare at Robert in shock, thinking he was hearing things. “S-Sir, what did you just say?”

Robert was still smiling ever so kindly at the young man. “You should get a marriage license with Josephine later on. Do you have any other questions for me, Mr. Quintin?”

The older man never considered the possibility of Josephine’s second marriage. He merely thought it’d be a quick matchmaking affair today just to make things formal. Since Quintin was willing to marry Josephine, it’d be best to make their marital status official as soon as possible.

“I-Isn’t this a little too hasty? I barely prepared anything for the occasion!”

“The details aren’t important. You should make it official at the city hall first. We can slowly discuss the rest of the details. I can rest well knowing that Josie’s finally found her happy ending. What do you think?”

“I” Quintin started to stammer. He didn’t realize he would marry Josephine just because he attended the matchmaking meeting in his friend’s stead. The decision was made too hastily, in his opinion.

The thought of marrying Josephine, however, appeased him. Quintin could feel traces of

nervousness taking hold as he continued, “I’m fine with this. It all depends on Josephine’s

answer.”
