When Her "Death" Couldn't Break Him

Chapter 1972

Chapter 1972 A Blow To His Pride

By the time Magnus spoke, his voice was already hoarse. He'd just sung at least

a dozen high-pitched songs in a row, without rest. His throat was completely worn

out.

The woman let out a cold laugh, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Are you joking

right now? You think you can just say no and walk away?"

Magnus froze.

"Three seconds," she said, her face going ice-cold.

The moment he saw that look in her eyes, panic set in. Magnus dropped to his

knees and started drinking, one glass after another.

His body already ached, and now the alcohol only made things worse.

The woman laughed heartily, then casually tossed the cash right into his face.

This wasn't something Cecilia had put together on a whim. These were actually

Magnus' favorite games back in his heyday.

Now, she was just giving him a taste of his own medicine.

Magnus was beginning to realize this wasn't just physical punishment. It was a

complete blow to his pride. His self-respect was hanging by a thread.

"Keep going. Get out there and crawl around," the woman said.

Magnus stiffened. "Do I really have to go outside? Can I not do that?"

There were too many people out there. The thought of being seen like this was

beyond humiliating.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. You want to make money and still keep your dignity? Let me tell you

something, guys like you should be grateful just to have this kind of work." She

flung the door open.

Magnus clenched his fists, veins bulging on his forehead. He wanted to refuse,

but a few large men blocked his path.

"You want the money, or are you asking for another beating?"

Just one line, and what little pride he had left was crushed.

He lowered his head and slowly stepped forward.

There were plenty of people outside. They all turned to stare, looking surprised.

Cecilia had also stepped out of the private room, standing quietly among the

crowd, watching everything unfold.

"Boss, maybe that's enough," Charlotte said, unable to keep watching.

Cecilia shook her head. "We can't let this go. If we back off now, he'll never learn

anything."

"But he looked covered in injuries. His voice was completely gone earlier,"

Charlotte said.

"You don't get it," Cecilia replied,

pulling Charlotte back into the room.

"He was spoiled for too long. If he

suddenly gets lucky again, hell go

right back to his old ways.

Originally, Eric was supposed to join them, but his manager called him back

halfway there due to a work emergency.

After hearing what Cecilia had said, Charlotte didn't argue anymore. She had met

Magnus a few times and always found him to be completely shameless.

But she didn't know what Magnus had done to Cecilia in the past, or that he had

once considered selling her to an older man.

Compared to what he'd done, Cecilia's treatment of him now was almost merciful.

Outside, the scene was drawing

more attention. Denise, who was

serving drinks nearby, caught sight

of Magnus and couldn't hide the

flash of sympathy in her eyes.

She stepped up. "Magnus, get up."

Shaking his head, Magnus whispered, "I can't. You should just go."

But Denise wasn't ready to leave him like that. "I'll talk to the manager," she said.

Even though she knew Magnus was lazy, greedy, and selfish, she couldn't stand

seeing him tormented like this by the rich.noveldrama

She went and pleaded with the manager.

But the manager waved her off. "Don't worry about it. The client paid a lot. Let him

stick it out, and he'll get paid soon enough."

"But-"

"That's enough," the manager cut her off. "We're here to make money, not run a

charity."

News of Denise pleading for

Magnus eventually reached Cecilia.

She was honestly surprised that

someone like Magnus had found a

woman who actually cared about

him.

"All right, that's enough for today," Cecilia said as she stood up.
