Your Love Is But a Dream (Clara and Wren)

Chapter 227

"Sometimes, we need to be more open-minded. Carlisle may have let you down on certain things, but he has been good to you for the past few years. I can tell he has a place for you in his heart," Martha coaxed.

At that, she observed Katrina's expression. She suddenly changed the topic, saying, "Besides, there's no one left in your family, right? If you divorce Carlisle, where are you going to go?

"Why don't you think about your future, as well as Clara's? Even the Salfords don't recognize her as one of their own anymore. What if they don't take Clara in after you leave our family? Please think of Clara's future."noveldrama

Martha knew Katrina's weakness the best. Her words were both advice and a warning.

At the same time, Katrina's expression grew sullen. She knew what Martha was trying to say.

Martha immediately shot Carlisle a gaze, hinting at him to leave. Thus, Carlisle gave Katrina one last look before turning around to leave grimly.

When Martha and Katrina were the only ones left in the room, Martha's smile faded. "Katrina, something tells me you're a smart person.

"That's why I let Carlisle marry you. How could you become more muddle-headed as you grow older?"

As Martha let go of Katrina's hand, she spotted the soup on the table. Contempt flashed past her eyes.

"All that woman knows is some tricks to win over a man. She was never qualified to join our family when she was younger, let alone now-she is older and has a troublesome daughter.

"Carlisle treats her better only because of his sentiment about the past, and he was upset about how I broke up his relationship. If he really wanted to marry her, he would've done so after divorcing you.

"However, he never brought it up. That shows that he still cares for you. Don't you see how panicked he was when you demanded the divorce?

"If you could spend some time and effort to win him back, I'm sure he'll come back to you one day. What can you get out of leaving him now?

"I'm really worried about you. You're not young anymore, and you don't have any children.

"We need to think carefully before deciding on certain matters. Don't make rash decisions, or it'll be too late for regrets," Martha advised patiently.

She was confident that Katrina would make the best decision for herself if she were smart. After all, Katrina had been through all that before.

Just like Katrina, Martha could not take it anymore. But once she convinced herself to be more open-minded, things got better.

To her, it was no big deal for men to have affairs with a couple of women out there. What was more important was the status of a wife.

A wife could legally stay by a man's side and enjoy everything he owned. If

Katrina and Carlisle divorced, Katrina would lose everything she had.

Thus, Martha thought it was better to turn a blind eye to things. There was nothing that would not come to pass.

Suddenly, Katrina lifted her head and

stared firmly at Martha. "But Mom, 1 can't get over it. I've endured it

for so many years. I just don't want to put up with it anymore.

"I'm letting them have their way. So, why isn't he letting me go?"

Martha furrowed her brows, frustrated at how Katrina barely listened to a word she said. She was really stubborn.

Anger briefly flashed past Martha's

eyes, but she quickly suppressed it for fear that Katrina's insistence on divorce could make Carlisle marry Shirley out of anger.

Swallowing her emotions, Martha coaxed, "You've put up with it for so many years. Can't you put up with it just this time?

"I've always been on your side. I promise I'll get rid of that woman later. Just take my advice, okay?

"It's okay to throw a little tantrum, but don't cross the line. Otherwise, there's no going back."

However, Katrina was starting to lose her patience. "I've already made up my mind. If you truly care for me, you should speak to Carlisle and get him to sign the divorce papers so we can part peacefully."
