The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella)

Chapter 1734

Jaime lingered at the car door for a moment, casting a cool glance over his confidant. "Mind your words."

The confidant was momentarily caught off guard, but as soon as their eyes met, he got the message. "I overstepped."

"Remember, the Davis family holds decorum in high regard," Jaime said, giving his confidant's shoulder a meaningful pat.

With that, he bent down and slipped into the car.

Rules are made by people, but the person making them isn't always the same.

The confidant nodded slightly, closed the car door, and joined him inside.

The car started up quickly, just as it had arrived, and the three vehicles sped out of the hospital in a neat line.

As they approached the intersection, the confidant, still mulling over Jaime's words, gazed out the window.

On the sidewalk, a couple was walking by. The woman, closer to the buildings, was hard to make out, but the man on the outer side had a striking presence, and something about him seemed vaguely familiar.

He reminded the confidant of the arms bureau guy he'd seen at an underground market last year.

In a split second, the confidant hit the brakes hard.

The sudden stop jolted Jaime forward, and once he settled back, he frowned towards the front. "What's going on?"

The confidant's eyes were still glued to the street, but by now, he could only see the two figures disappearing around a corner. Hearing Jaime's displeased tone, he quickly explained, "Mr. Davis, I think I just saw someone from the arms bureau outside."

As he spoke, the confidant rolled down the window and pointed outside.

Jaime glanced out the window but only caught a fleeting glimpse as the figures vanished around the bend.

He turned back and eyed his confidant. "Do you really think someone from the arms bureau would be wandering around here at this hour?"

The confidant scratched his head, responding almost automatically, "The silhouette seemed familiar."

"There are plenty of people with similar builds," Jaime remarked, closing his eyes again. "Drive."

The confidant quickly restarted the car.

Thinking it over, it made more sense.

The arms bureau agent was notoriously elusive, rarely seen in Merrywoods. It was unlikely he'd be casually strolling down a street like this at night.

Maybe the confidant had been mistaken; after all, he hadn't seen the man's face clearly from such a distance.

The confidant shook his head and refocused on driving.

**Meanwhile, Cole had just wrapped up a call with Grady and was heading back to the hospital room when he looked up to see Mirabella coming in from outside. His eyes lit up immediately.

Cole hurried over and gave Mirabella a deep bow. "Good evening, Miss Mira."

Mirabella paused, looking at thenoveldrama

earnest young man in front of her, who seemed about twenty-five or twenty-six, and couldn't help but smile wryly. "And you are..

Cole remembered Miss Mira hadn't met him before. He bowed again and introduced himself, "Miss Mira, my name is Cole. Just call me Cole."

Mirabella cleared her throat. "No need to be so formal."

"Oh, but there is," Cole replied with a pained smile, his voice tinged with guilt. "If it weren't for you, Miss Mira, Keir wouldn't have pulled through. I couldn't have forgiven myself."

Since the incident, all Cole had heard from the doctors was that there was no hope. It was Miss Mira who had turned the situation around, turning despair into hope.

Cole now viewed Mirabella almost like a miracle worker.
